Good inexpensive film camera to start taking portraits?

Olympus OM-1 because there is usually a fast 50 attached and can be had for cheap. If you are really only shooting portraits and don’t plan on walking around much then go medium format. Mamiya RB67; you will probably have to piecemeal it together on eBay if you want it cheap, but the results are night and day over 35mm. Make sure you get a clean lens, the imperfections get magnified on the larger film size.

Have you ever had serious thoughts about getting an S-System camera? :)

Yeah of course! Actually I should say I've thought about shooting with one. I'm nowhere near the point where I can pontificate about dropping 40k on just a camera body alone. I prefer the M but who wouldn't be drawn into that beautiful behemoth? I'd use it on the streets rather then a studio.
