Request: Eddie accidentally loses his mixtape of recorded Corroded Coffin songs in school and panics because the recording was too good. Reader ends up finding it and she’s immediately in love, but is frustrated because no matter how many music stores she goes to, it seems that corroded coffin “doesn’t exist” One day, Eddie and reader are in the same area and she hears him playing guitar and she’s like “I KNOW THAT SONG!” And starts singing and Eddie is just confused (but heart fluttering) that a pretty girl is singing his song… wait, how does she know the song?

You set your backpack down by your desk and pulled the cassette tape you found earlier at school out of the front pocket. You had stumbled upon it when you sat down in Ms. O’Donnell’s class, accidentally kicking it with your foot as you took your seat at your desk in the back. You picked it up; in black permanent marker the words Corroded Coffin were written across the cover. Your curiosity got the better of you and you decided to take it home and listen to it.
You pulled your Walkman out of your bedside table and popped the tape in. After placing the headphones on your head and sitting back on your bed with your homework for the evening, you hit play.
The first guitar chord almost made you scream. It was louder than anything you normally listened to, but after the initial shock, you grew to like it. Finding it calming in a strange way as you finished up your homework.
Once you got to the end of the tape, you found yourself rewinding it and listening to it again, and again, and again.
Corroded Coffin had become your new favorite band.
The second you were able to, you went to the music store in town and scanned the entire store for a Corroded Coffin album…to no avail. After searching the entire store again, you decided to ask the man at the register. He unfortunately was no help when he told you he had never heard of that band before. You even went to a few other record stores outside of Hawkins, but they gave you the same answer, “Never heard of them.”
Apparently, your new favorite band doesn’t exist…and it was driving you insane.
For the time being you would continue to listen to the cassette and hope that one day you would figure out where this mysterious band came from.

Eddie tore apart his locker. Crumpled up pieces of paper, empty cigarette packs, and gum wrappers were scattered all over the hallway. Jeff leaned against the lockers next to Eddie’s, his arms crossed as he listened to Eddie’s panicked and frantic search for their missing demo tape.
“Where the hell is it?” Eddie stared at his now completely empty locker.
“Did you check the drama room?” Jeff suggested.
Eddie started picking up the mess on the floor and shoving it back into his locker, “Yes, twice.”
“Are you sure it’s not in your van, or somewhere in that pigsty you call a bedroom?” Jeff chuckled.
“Yes, Jeffery. I checked and it’s not there.” Eddie said in a stern tone.
Jeff knew Eddie was now past the point of tolerating playful teasing, “Okay, when was the last time you remember having it?”
“I had it in my bag on Friday before English.”
“Why don’t we go to Ms. O’Donnell’s and ask her if anyone turned it in?”
Eddie slammed his locker closed and looked at Jeff with a scowl, “You seriously think that O’Donnell is going to be of any help?”
“Doesn’t hurt to try,” Eddie continued to star at Jeff, his expression unchanging, “fine, did you check the lost and found in the front office?”
“Jeffery, Jeffery, Jeffery, you think anyone in this godforsaken school would turn in a cassette tape to the lost and found?”
There was a short beat of silence, “You already check there?”
“Yeah.” Eddie hung his head low in defeat.
“Alright, I guess it’s gone. We’ll have to make a new demo.”
Eddie released a groan, “It took forever to make that one though, and all of the songs came out perfect.”
“Well, we don’t really have a choice. Not unless a miracle happens and we find the tape.”
Another frustrated groan fell from Eddie’s lips, and he kicked the bottom row of lockers.
“Mr. Munson! I think you know better than to damage school property!” Ms. O’Donnell yelled as she happened to be passing by.
“Where the hell did she come from?” Eddie looked around confused.

“Remind me. Why are we coming to the music store again?” Robin asked you as you both climbed out of Steve’s car.
“The new Metallica album just came out and I wanted to get it.” You responded.
“Right, and when exactly did you start listening to Metallica?”
You rolled your eyes, “Can I not try out some new music?”
“You can…it’s just very different from your usual taste in music.”
“Whatever,” you turned back to the car, “you can just wait in the car Steve, we won’t be long.”
Steve slammed his door closed and jogged to catch up to the two of you, “I really am just a chauffeur to both of you aren’t I?”
“No, we just know that if you step foot in the music store you will embarrass us.” A smirked crept up into the corner of Robin’s mouth.
“Why do I hang out with you?” Steve muttered under his breath as he opened the door for the both of you.
You made a beeline for the back of the store where the metal albums were, you had become well acquainted with it while trying to find Corroded Coffin the previous weekend, and began your search for the new Metallica album.
Eddie and Jeff walked into the music store, the urge to walk to the back and browse came over Eddie, but they were there for one reason, and one reason only: to get blank cassette tapes so they could rerecord their demo. But the second they passed the guitars, Eddie threw the task at hand out the window, and decided it was time to test out a few guitars.
Jeff let out a frustrated groan, “Eddie, dude, come on. You said we didn’t have time to goof off.”
“But look at this absolute beauty!” Eddie carefully lifted up one of the electric guitars, similar to his prized possession back home, except green.
“It is beautiful, but we need to get those cassette tapes.” Jeff tried to get Eddie back on track, but it was too late. He was off in his own little world, playing one of their songs on the guitar.
You flipped through the records, seeing if there were any other albums you wanted to get while you were there. Robin and Steve had ditched you and made their way over to the pop section, but you didn’t mind. You pulled out an Iron Maiden album to look at when you heard a familiar tune coming from where the guitars were. It took you a moment to place the song, but eventually you realized it was a Corroded Coffin song.
“Oh my god, I love this song!” You began to sing the lyrics quietly to yourself at first, but as the song reached its chorus you started singing louder, unaware of the pair of metalheads that could hear you from a couple aisles over.
Eddie stopped playing, his brow furrowing in question, “Is someone singing our song?”
“I think so.” Jeff answered.
Eddie set the guitar down and followed the singing towards the back of the store, with Jeff trailing behind him. When he reached you, he asked, “You know the song I was playing?”
You turned around and Eddie could have sworn his heart skipped a beat.
“Yeah, it’s a Corroded Coffin song!” you let out a small laugh, “I was starting to think I was the only person who knew they existed!”
Eddie was at a loss for words. Not only were you cute, but you knew their band…by name.
Jeff could see that Eddie’s brain was short circuiting, as it did most times he encountered anyone he thought was cute. He rolled his eyes and stepped in front of Eddie to talk to you, “What do you mean?”
“For the past week, I have been trying to find out more about this band. I went to five different music stores and every time I asked about Corroded Coffin, they would look at me like I had ten heads.”
“How do you know the song then?” Jeff asked.
“This is gonna sound really weird, but I found a cassette tape at school last week. I don’t really know why, but I decided to take it home and listen to it, and I ended up loving it. I have it practically memorized by now. I haven’t stopped listening to it.”
Eddie melted at your words.
Jeff laughed, “Yeah, that’s our cassette tape. Genius over here lost it.” he lightly slapped Eddie in the chest.
You looked at both of them with wide eyes, disbelief apparent on your face, “No way…you’re kidding! You two—you’re Corroded Coffin?”
The beautiful, excited smile that spread across your face caused Eddie’s stomach to fill with butterflies.
“Oh my god, I can’t believe I’m actually meeting you. This is insane! So um, obviously I haven’t been able to find out much about you guys. So, what are your names?”
“I’m Jeff, I’m the band’s rhythmic guitarist.”
“Awesome.” You looked over at Eddie waiting for him to introduce himself, but he remained silent, still in shock.
“This is Eddie. He is our lead guitarist, lead singer, and he writes most of our songs too.”
Your breath hitched ever so slightly, “You—you wrote the songs?”
It finally registered to Eddie that you were talking to him. He snapped out of his stupor and managed to stutter out, “I—uh, yeah, I—I did.”
“No song lyrics have ever resonated with me as much as yours,” you took a couple steps closer to Eddie, “you’re amazing.”
“Really?” Eddie was taken aback by your compliment.
“Totally.”
“Don’t inflate his ego, he doesn’t need it.” Jeff teased.
“So, um,” Eddie shifted nervously, “we really need that cassette tape back, it’s the only copy we have, and it came out perfect.”
“Oh, of course! Just give me a time and a place and I’ll make sure you get it back.”
“Sweet,” he looked down at the ground as he shuffled his foot back and forth, “and maybe afterward we could get a bite to eat?”
You felt heat creep up into your cheeks, “Are you asking me out?”
“Yes.” Eddie said before he lost his nerve.
That excited smile of yours that Eddie was growing oh so fond of made a second appearance, “That sounds great!”
“You know the diner on Main Street?” you nodded your head, “Let’s meet there tomorrow at noon.”
“Sounds perfect.”
“Awesome.”
The two of you smiled at each other, a silent flirtation of sorts going on between each other. Jeff rolled his eyes and grabbed Eddie by the back of his vest and dragged him out of the store, “Come on, Romeo.”
Eddie waved to you as they left, “See you tomorrow.”
“Bye”
Robin and Steve walked up behind you, smirks on their faces, “Looks like someone found something other than the new Metallica album.”
“Shut up, Steve.” You rolled your eyes.
“Why didn’t you say the band you were obsessed with was Corroded Coffin, we could have told you to talk to Eddie.” Robin added.
“Wait you know him?”
“Yeah, he goes to school with you. Steve said.
“WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME!?” You hit Steve on the shoulder.
“You didn’t ask! Why are you hitting me?!”
“Cause you’re our personal punching bag, Dingus,” Robin playfully punched his arm to prove her point, “come on, let’s head out.”
“Ok!” You linked arms with Robin and walked up to the register to pay for the Metallica album then headed for Steve’s car.
