Commandé en 1859, cette tableau ornaient le salon de l'hôtel de la comtesse de Nadaillac rue Raynouard à Passy. Issue d'une famille de banquiers protestants, Cécile Delessert, veuve à 23 ans, épousa en 1852 en seconde noces le colonel Sigismond du Pouget, comte de Nadaillac. Elle devint dame d'honneur de l'impératrice, son amie d'enfance, et côtoya la Cour et la haute société parisienne. Elle accompagna régulièrement Eugénie à Biarritz et assista à l'inauguration du canal de Suez en 1869. Elle était elle-même artiste - ses recueils d'aquarelles sont conservés au Museum d'histoire naturelle de Paris.(Artcurial)
