Delia squeaked in surprise.
But realized it was loose enough to wiggle around to see who it was.
Pressing a quick kiss to Jonny’s lips.
“Rough day?”
He always got a little more forceful on bad days but never enough to scare her.
"He was pretty hard to handle, yeah." Jonny replies, his eyes gliding overhead jawbone to her lips where he placed another. "Left me with some pent up energy...I need to relieve." He mentions, one of his hands caresses her thigh.
Jonny was just intoxicated and stressed enough to be angry about the little things again, and he was sitting in the kitchen while Delia cooked a late dinner for him after returning home from working for his Boss. He had been chain smoking his Winston reds and sipping on a beer as he watched his beautiful fiance in action cooking.
"Why are you so damn cute?" He flirts aggressively.

“Just lucky I guess” Delia laugh blushing a bit. She was always cuddly and snuggled in close.
She had made tuna with a blueberry sauce to go over it and a nice salad.
She found she couldn’t still earth beer any more then she like Kaldrian beer but loved hard Apple cider.
"This doesn't look very filling." He mentioned immediately, testing his fish before digging in. The fish was fine. But he was still hungry after the salad. "Jay had me active all day I'm hungry as fuck baby...make me some more filling quick and easy." He asks her as she eats still.
“Ok, there are brownies baking now. Would some pasta work? I didn’t get a chance to go shopping today. Sydney needed me for some violin work for the cd she’s working on. And it’s already behind schedule!”
Delia bounced up to start it cooking. “No spaghetti sauce currently but do have Alfredo sauce.”
“And the brownies will be done in fifteen minutes.”
"Yes, yes. Cook it up. Sounds filling. Gives me time to eat you out." He chuckles.

Pawn Shop
Jonny pulls up to the pawn shop and puts the truck in park. Cutting the engine he quickly heads over to Dalia's side to open her door and help her down. His truck was rugged and meant to haul heavy loads. And other things Joker needed disposed of. Smiling his hold lingers on her hand as he meets her eyes. He had called ahead of time and checked. They had three violins and a viola to choose from. And he was planning on buying her one. Jonny always had been a mush for a quick flame and fell for women quickly. Despite her looking like Adeline...she was different in some ways. And he wanted to know all the ways.
“Thank you.” Delia said. She was looking around curiously. She always enjoyed exploring new places. Seeing what they had to offer.
Back on Kaldria she hadn’t been able to do as much exploring.
Unfortunately only the high queens and kings of the KEEPERs could travel freely.
The rest of them had been tied to certain lay lines and magical nodes too use their magic to keep them stable.
Jonny navigates silently behind her, observing her interest in things she picks up. Explaining things she seemed to be confused about. Telling her the history of the purpose of items she asked about. Then, finally she spotted the instruments hanging behind the register counter and he smiles big at her reaction. Many instruments, brass, string, and woodwind.
Delia bounced over. Currently able to ignore the wound in her side.
Looking over the violins. She tended to use the more standard ones for everyday but she also loved the more unique designs and colors as well.
These were all standard. But one had been burned with designs. Jonny had been looking at it over the aisles the whole time.
Delia’s eyes lit up when she saw the violin with the key and flower design.
It was gorgeous and if it was well made enough the sound would be beautiful.
"How can I help you two?" The shop keeper asks.
"She wants to try that violin out." Jonny points, knowing already.
You find Joker sitting silently and still in the middle halfway down the entrance hallway of his home on Apollo Ave, his eyes overflowing with tears, cheeks soaked with a history of sobbing, eyes vacant and distant. He is shirtless and holding a whiskey bottle in one hand and in the other he clutched an antique ornate women's hairbrush so tightly his albino knuckles were turning blue. He seemed....catatonic.
Syd’s eyes went wide. Quickly she padded over dropping to her knees and wrapping both hands around his holding the brush.
“What can I do, we do?” Not really expecting an answer yet.
She started singing Dark Purple Dawn for him.
And other songs.
Never letting go of his hands.

His lungs suck in a strangled breath of stuck despair as she wraps her warm womanly hands around his which had gone cold and numb and phantomly around Adeline's hairbrush. The breath sucks in phlem and spit into his lungs and causes him to choke and cough but he doesn't fight for life like someone who was doing okay might. He sobs and chokes more, strains on the stopped off air and seemed to refuse to clear his airways as his eyes were lost in a memory.
“Hey, come back! I know you miss her but this won’t help!” Swatting him on the back to try to force him to keep breathing then pulling him into a hug.
“I don’t know how but we’ll find a way to get her back.” Syd was lost and not sure what do, besides not leave him alone.
The firm pats on his back knock the spittle in his throat forward and cause an automatic swallow—a chain reaction of a squealed inward tight breath and another tight fought against cough as he clenches his jaw tight and moans in despair against her embrace as his fist drops the items he held. Hairbrush gently clattering to the tile floor and the whiskey bottle clinking heavily down. The rich musky liquor seeping out of the neck of the bottle onto the floor like his tears leaked from his locked open gray eyes over his reddening cheeks, irritated from the emotions flowing over them. His empty hands hesitated between memory and reality as Sydney's warm embrace anchored him to a semblance of organized life and he choked out a coughed sob as he embraced her body with a painfully strong grip.
"Ah, gahd...." he coughs and sobs, clinging to her and pulling his body closer to hers like a drowning man being rescued. Hyperventilating he chokes and sobs as his fingers stuck to her with bruising strength while he tried to get his lungs cleared.
Syd squeaks in pain but tightens her hug. She starts singing once more, not knowing what to say, what would help.
She wasn’t good with comforting words, for her actions spoke louder.
Though once he starts to calm down she would try to get him out of the hallway and someplace more comfortable.
“What do you need me to do?”
"I...I don't know what's real anymore. I—" he chokes on a sob as his eyes shift to Jonny who entered the back porch door from the kitchen with a stressed-out look.
"I came as fast as I could...he called me earlier." Jonny sighs, dropping to his knees to rub Joe's back. "Hey, how about we move to the living room, bud?" Jonny suggests.
Sydney tightened her hug. She wasn’t going to let go until he was ready.
She gave a nod to Jonny. It probably a very good thing Delia wasn’t there.
That would probably make things worse.
She started humming again.
Joe whimpers and shakes his head at Jonny's suggestion, tucking his face into Sydney's shoulder and neck. Adeline had faded from life in the spot he was sitting, and he didn't want to leave her. Not on this day. The day of her passing.
Sydney tightened her hug even more. Running a hand through his hair.
She didn’t know what was going on but she’ll wait until later before she asks.
She was glad Jonny was there too.
But noticed he also seemed very sad as well?
"Has he eaten anything?" Jonny asks her. Joe had picked at dinner that evening and skipped lunch and barely ate breakfast that morning. He had been nursing bottles of alcohol since 3 am and was currently thinking about using heroin. His veins ached for the sweet spot of comfort it brought him. He moaned in a grieving tone and sobbed into her neck.
"Fuck off Jonny!" He snaps hatefully in mourning.
“Not that I’m aware of. I only got here about 20 minutes ago. And found him practically catatonic when I got here.” Sydney said. She had moved back into her own house as her new powers settled.
Though she had been bouncing between whatever he asked her to do, helping Delia but knowing how small Jonny’s place is…
She was also still trying to find the rest of her family.
"Is anyone living with him here?" Jonny asks. Joe scoffs and shoves Sydney off him gently but with haste. Grabbing Adeline's hairbrush he pulls the basement door open and disappears down the stairs, locking the latch behind him. It was just him and Adeline's unrotting mutant body in the basement which he kept on a bed-like altar and he was losing his mind currently since her eyeballs were shifting behind her closed lids. He lies down and snuggles up to her ice-cold body.
Syd flailed a bit landing on her butt.
“I thought Ollie was. Or was he kicked out after pawning that stuff? Jax is after his place burned down. He grabbed Jem and Luc from my place for some mission.”
Jem, Luc and Jax have been accepted by her semi sentient house. She was afraid to try to introduce the Joker and Jonny to her (the house) yet.
Ollie laughed at a TikTok from the living room and was present but seemed aloof to Joe's struggle. And yeah, Jax had been given a room but the guy barely interacted with Joe. Joe felt alone. So alone. He was struggling. Jonny sighed and went to make something for Joe to eat.
"Joe needs human connection or he's going to go full cryptid. And that's the last thing Gotham needs." He tells Syd.

She’s heard stories but hasn’t seen how bad it could get.
“Is there any chance we can talk him into getting pools or at minimum deep tubs put in his houses? I can teleport using pools and large bodies of water. At least if I can visualize where I want to go. That way I could be here in a much shorter time frame.” Syd stopped to catch her breath.
She was worried. Joe was fast becoming another older brother to her.
"I could fill the pool out back." Jonny nods, chopping up onions to make one of Joe's favorite scrambles. Ollie walks past wearing nothing but a crop top and fuzzy slippers to get a diet coke.
"Joe just texted me he saw Adeline open her mouth. Just so ya know." Ollie fills Jonny in with it's Chicagan accent. "Is he okay?" Ollie asks with a measured amount of sass as it lingers and opens the bottle to sip it.
“That would be excellent. And to a very limited degree I can purify the water when I use it to teleport.” Syd said.
She still wasn’t entirely sure how that worked though.
Her mouth dropped open hearing that.
She was also looking for ways to help revive Adeline.
And searching even more for her family.
She suspects it would need all of them to work.
"No, Ollie. Joe is not okay." Jonny frowns. "He's probably hallucinating, please try all you can to help him sleep." He asks the pink-haired live-in whore. "You know your job here. So start doing it." His tone was sharp and boss bitter as he continued cooking for his boss. "Take the laundry shoot down to him, go do your job." He growls to Ollie.
Then, to Sydney his tone was grateful. "I can have pool maintenance come by in the morning and fix it up." He tells her, adding diced potatoes to the skillet after removing the cooked onions.
“Sounds like a plan. I can stay over more often also if that would help.” Sydney said. “Could work on my music here and only head home to feed the cats and use the studio and magic room.”
“I’m still trying to find the rest of our family. Concentrating on Esther since Jax thinks he saw her.”
Her voice dropped to a whisper just loud enough for Jonny to hear.
She hoped.
“How’s Delia doing? I’ve been having nightmares about her and Joe meeting and him scaring her enough that she tries to run.”
"She's antsy, wants to go to town. Might take her to the small-town near my property. Don't want to risk any of Joker's followers seeing her and asking him about Adeline." Jonny replies. "I didn't tell her about the situation yet." He admits.
“We need to soon. She’s too curious for her own good. She also has the habit of jumping to the worst conclusions. She seems like an optimist to try to stop her pessimistic side from taking over.” Syd admitted.
“We all also have semi sentient houses connected to us. Her’s would be on the outskirts of the city or a town nearby. Because her’s is connected to an eight acre horse farm.”
“How are her injuries healing?”
"Her worst one almost got infected but I caught it before anything got bad." Jonny fills her in. "She's been really chatty and I am struggling to keep up with her conversations." He admits with a frown, his shoulders sagging a bit. "I think she wants me to share about myself, but...I struggle with that. People don't need to hear my tragic life story." He sighs.
Syd sighed.
“That’s why I needed to ask you. She and all of my siblings tend to downplay their injuries. I hope I don’t but then again my worst was losing my power over light and getting my time powers back.”
She giggled at that.
“Yeah, Delia’s a talker. But that’s actually a good thing. When she’s really scared or distrustful she goes silent.”
“She cares. She’s not always good at showing it but that’s why.”
"Maybe I should open up a bit more to her, then." He sighs, turning the heat up under the pan.
“Take your time though. She wouldn’t want to push too hard. Even just telling her it’s hard for you would be enough.”

“What else can I do to help?”
"Could you cut that steak into half inch cubes?" He points to a package of three ribeye steaks on the counter. Next to it was kitchen shears. He adds diced green bell peppers to the potatoes he was frying and covers the pan. Lighting a Winston he takes a seat for a moment.
Syd ginned. “Of course.” Washing her hands before she started.
“What was Adeline like? What happened?” Her voice was softer. But she wanted to know.
And it may be easier to tell her first? Before Delia?
"She was...kind, but took no bullshit. She was fiery but brought life. She was quiet but her presence was unmistakable. Like a goddess. She cared about us all, and would risk her life to save us. That's how she died. Saving all of us after a shootout from a small rival gang. She just...did more than she should have because she didn't want to loose any of us..." he chokes up on the memory. On the mourning of loosing her. On the emotion of missing her. Tears bubble in his eyes as he fights them and he covers his face as he whimpers and breathes heavy trying to calm himself. It wasn't only Joker who loved Adeline romantically. He did, too.
Syd quickly finished cutting up the steaks and pulled him into a hug.
“I’m so sorry.”
Syd was now even more fixed on finding away to bring Adeline back.
“We need to tell Delia soon, especially before someone else finds out. Unfortunately there are times she gets so anxious about not being good enough and there’s always someone better than her.”
“She would run.”
Jonny went a bit rigid at the idea of Dalia running, he was kinda falling for her. "What part is important to tell her?" He asks.
“That she actually has an eighteenth doppelgänger not just seventeen like the rest of us. And that she was a well loved member of the group. That some people might see her as Adeline first.”
"When should I tell her?" Jonny asks, plating some food for Joe. He messages Ollie to come get Joe's plate as he listens to her. answer.
Syd thought for a moment. “Maybe after your day out. Let her enjoy herself and get to know you better. Maybe if I can be there? Usually any of us can get her to calm down more quickly. She’s high-strung but also practical. So with a family member there, yes she may panic but calm down faster and be more understanding.”
"Right," Jonny isn't sure he should test that out alone anyway. He hands Ollie the plate, noticing its makeup was a bit ruined now. Jonny laughs and then looks back to Syd. "I was going to take her to the pawn shop. But...there's a good diner you could meet us at. You could even tell her yourself." He pushes the duty to her.
“That might work too. I do know she gets distracted easily and forgets to eat. Though loves food. Does it have gluten free options, though?” Syd said.
She grinned at the ruined makeup.
"It has salads..." he says regretfully. Plating some food for her before himself.

“Hey, come back! I know you miss her but this won’t help!” Swatting him on the back to try to force him to keep breathing then pulling him into a hug.
“I don’t know how but we’ll find a way to get her back.” Syd was lost and not sure what do, besides not leave him alone.

It had been a month since Jonny picked up Dahlia and he was awake in the kitchen at 2am after a military nightmare; the stove light glowing softly just past him. He lit another cigarette, exhaled and spoke out.
"Can't sleep either?" He wonders to the woman he rescued.

Joker took me in under his wing not long after that...I was an only child." He lies. “An adult Kelpie is always able to kill an adult Celpie. However the battle maybe more even between an adult Celpie verses a Kelpie foal.”
"Why would anyone battle a fool against an adult? That's monstrous." He frowns, sipping his coffee.
“True.” Delia frowned.
“That was a mess and I got caught in the middle. And that barn got shut down and the Kelpies returned to the wild while the Celpies were sent to different farms.”
She shivered slightly. Always feeling the cold easily.
Jonny nods and gets lost in thought briefly, wondering how to continue this conversation. He chews his lip. He needed her to pry at him to get him to talk a bit more.
Delia took a drink of her tea. She knew Syd was looking for their siblings. And that Jax may have spotted Esther.
“Thank you. For everything. I know Syd already considers you a friend. What’s your family like? Do you have any siblings?”
"Oh, uh...my father was a marine. He was strict but not mean. He taught me a lot about time management and getting tasks done right the first time. My mother was a therapist and she made sure I understood how others would behave in times of stress and grief. They helped me a lot. But, they both died when I was 16 in a Scarecrow riot. Joker took me in under his wing not long after that...I was an only child." He lies. Not wanting to share the story of Joker making he and his brother fight to the death for his offer at a life of being taken care of.
“I’m so sorry.” Delia put her hand over his gently. “That must have been so painful. And lonely.”
Delia has always been a people person to a degree. Few friends but close friends and she always had her siblings.
Jonny clears his throat as his eyes shift to his hand weighed down by Delia's hand, Adeline's look-a-like and doppelganger of sorts and his heart ached. It felt confusing and relieving, and he couldn't prevent his hand from slightly edging into the weight of hers.
"Thanks," he smirks. It was a soft appreciative type of smirk, though. "Joker seems rough on the business end but...he's just a guy." He smokes more of his Winston. "Mostly," he adds, exhaling away from her sharply.
