“Route 1A”

This road job has been a huge process for RF Jordan this past summer. This large bid on a busy road (especially in the summer) kept many employees busy, working both days and nights. It was the first time that RFJ has participated in night work. They were able to keep two lanes of traffic open all summer to help deal with the steady traffic.

“Service Truck”

Last year RF Jordan invested in a new service truck. This investment was a wise one. This fully equipped truck can go to any job site and be fully prepared to fix the problems.

“Concentration”

Asa and Orion at 18 years old, have always been a part of the family business. The twins have worked their way up the ranks over the years. Right out of high school they both started working full time for the family. In this picture both boys are captured in deep concentration while running excavators. There is a lot of responsibility that comes with running equipment, so they always have to be on their game.

“The View”

This picture was taken from the top of the Big Pit. This nice leveled off area is where my cousin got married and where we had our company party this fall. It is a beautiful spot when all of the leaves are in their peak season. This land would make a great spot for a house lot, but there is way too much good gravel. One wouldn’t imagine that a pit could have so many nice views.

“Odd Jobs”

Here is another photo from the work being done at the blueberry fields. I like this photo because I was able to capture the tractor, excavator, and the view all in one shot. I thought there was a nice variety of colors. Sadly, I was just a week too late to capture all of the foliage. A lot of the trees have already lost their leaves. To get everything in this one photo I took the picture from up above on a hill.

“Shop”

Here is a picture from within the RF Jordan garage. There are a couple of mechanics who are always busy fixing equipment. This photo was captured while a guy was fixing a dump truck. I messed with the coloring in this photo because it was originally very dark.

“Part three of three″

Here is the finished product of the paved road. The drivers are enjoying the luxury of the paved road. However, a few speed bumps may need to be installed. This straight stretch is a perfect spot to get caught up in your speed. Sadly, the foliage was gone after this picture was taken. It was only a 10 day time span, but it sure made a difference.

“Part two of three”

Here is a picture that captures the trucks dumping the dirt with a grader and roller following to smooth it out. The pit road is a couple of miles long so it took the guys a while to finish the process. Again, this photo was taken when there was still color on the trees. The foliage was great this year.

“Part one of three″

McDevitt Highway is the name of the road that leads to the Big Pit. There is constantly trucks flying up and down this road and it gets worn down pretty easily. RF Jordan has decided to invest in pavement to make the upkeep and travel easier. To start this process lots of  dirt was hauled in and graded out smooth to be up to grade for the pavement. This picture was taken when there was still foliage, so all I had to do was adjust the exposure and clarity.

“Odd Jobs”

RF Jordan gets hired for a variety of jobs in the Down-East Maine area. Here is an excavator in a blueberry field. The excavator is removing large rocks and removing/filling in bare spots to help prepare for future harvesting seasons.

“Family Traditions”

Pictured here is one of the Ronnie's that are a part of the family at RF Jordan. Ronnie has had a wide variety of jobs over the years, but something that he has always been a part of is blueberry harvesting. This past summer the berries were raked from this field, so now they are going through and mowing the fields to prepare for future years. There was not much color in the original photo, so I made adjustments to make the photo more vibrant.

“Service”

It is that time of year to be thankful for what you have and to give to those who you are about. RF Jordan is constantly giving back to their community. Here is a photo taken at Graham Lake. Graham Lake was a man-made damn back in the day, it was made for a damn, but many use it for recreational use now. However, in this one spot the wind has blown in a large dirt pile causing boats and wildlife to not make it out of the cove to the rest of the large lake. The Fish and Wildlife Organization of Ellsworth came to RFJ and asked for help. RFJ is digging up the dirt to make a pathway.

“Big John”

Big John is a faithful hard working employee of RF Jordan. John is in charge of the pit and takes pride in his work. No matter the circumstances he shows up each day with a smile on his face and always says, “no problem boss-man.” This is a picture of John climbing out of the 220 Volvo loader.

“Free Falling”

I find it calming to watch the dirt fall off of the screening plant so perfectly. The screening plant does such a great job at separating. It is extremely important to have all the right sizes together because some jobs require certain grades for roads and projects. The men that work the screening plant have to go through a checklist each morning to make sure everything is working properly.

“Load ‘er Up”

This picture captures a loader dumping some gravel into a haul truck. The haul truck will then transport this gravel to a job site. The loader operator has to be accurate when dumping. There are certain weight requirements that trucks have to fall under to be safe for the roads. I took multiple shots during this scene because I wanted to be able to capture the dirt falling at the perfect angle. I was not as successful as I originally hope.

“Down under”

Here is a picture of one of the smaller screening plants. This was taken at the same level, compared to the previous post where the picture was taken above from a distance. You can see the many layers of the pit wall and how dangerous and easy it could be to fall in. There are many safety regulations that the employees are RF Jordan are trained for regularly. Construction can be a dangerous business. The screen plant separates the different sized rocks and gravel which is then stock piled into different areas in the pit for future use.
