Another Great Comeback by Jordi Torres in Second Race in France
29.09.2019 – Jordi Torres rode well in each WorldSBK race at Magny Cours today to score points despite starting from the last row of the grid each time. The Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions WorldSBK rider is 11th in the championship with two rounds remaining.
In the first race of the final day in France, the ten-lap Tissot-Superpole ‘sprint’, Torres scored a point for 15th place after starting from 20th position – due to the wet Superpole qualifying session on Saturday.
In the 21-lap Race Two, the last of three French races in all, Torres found improved pace in the longer contest and finished a confidence-boosting tenth, despite having used up a lot of his best front tyre performance moving through the field.
Jordi felt he could have competed for one more position if he had more front tyre grip to use, but even then his tenth place today saw him 11th overall, just five points behind the rider immediately in front.
Next up for the Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions WorldSBK squad is the first of two flyway races that will finish off the season. The 12th round will be held at the Villicum circuit in Argentina, between 11 and 13 October.
Jordi Torres #81 – Rider: “This morning the race was fast and we tried to catch a good pace. We found it but it was not enough to go far ahead, and we finished 15th. I think this morning we looked for the limit. The long races are better for us because we can adjust the bike to suit long distance races, and we improved a lot in Race Two. We started P20 and finished P10 – that is not bad. I tried to make a fight with Camier in the last few laps but I think we ‘ate’ the tyre too much on the front.”
Lucio Pedercini – Team Manager: “It was a difficult weekend because yesterday in Superpole it was bad conditions for Jordi so he left the grid from the last position, But, he did a good race today and finished tenth, so it was not so bad. We hope to improve in Argentina.”
