i think i loved you from the moment we first met, even if it took me a while – too long – to realise it. no matter how many years pass, i don’t think i’ll ever cease to be amazed by how we came together, despite all odds. you saw me at my lowest, and you loved me through my darkest times. i was younger then, more naive, a romantic with the wrong idea of love. you loved me as a friend long before you loved me as anything more, and you taught me how to love softly, you taught me how to kiss without teeth.

i know it was hard for you. my edges were sharp and you got cut whenever you held me too tightly, and i expected you to walk away, like everyone else. but you defied all my expectations; you stayed, even when i had given you every reason to leave. you never gave up on me, even when i had given up on myself. you weathered down my sharp edges, turned me to putty in your hands. i found strength in softness, and in loving you, i learned how to love myself.

there will be hard times ahead, i know this. but i am no longer scared of them. we are too stubbornly in love, too human, to never fight, but i am confident that we will not be broken, that we will only emerge stronger. i don’t know what the future has planned out for me, but i know that as long as you remain by my side, i am invincible.
