“Oh fantastic!” He accepted the bundle from her and looked it over. Jules asked a few more indepth questions about growing them. “Oh, hey, actually, can we go talk in private for a moment?”

Quinn found herself taking a breath, her fingers running over the ribbons as she debated on sending him away. That was not who she was though, it was what seemed to get her into the most trouble. “Sure”, she offered a polite smile, motioning to follow her back to the office.

Once they were alone, he fiddled with the bag. “I don't know how to start this, so I'll jist say it. I need your help. On a couple things. And I can pay.” Julian frowned. “I met a vampire who was brand new and to be honest, I've never bothered learning much and I don't know anyone else...is there some kind of jewelry or spell or something that can be made to keep her safe in the sun? I don't know if I'll even see her again, but I had to ask. And...I could use some more vervain for myself and my fiancee.”

Julian shook his head. “She’s made it very clear that tradition means more to her than I do…and it doesn’t even seem like she loves me as much as she did even a year ago…who knows if she ever really loved me at all.” He frowned. “But, my fiancee is someone I’ve been friends with and she’s a great girl, so I know I’ll find happiness with her some day.” 

He smiled softly. “I appreciate that man. I really do.” Julian sighed. “I don’t even remember what life was like…well, to be fair, when I was bitten I almost died because it gave me a fever that Nala and Silas nursed me though and it basically scrambled my memories…but regardless…this is all I’ve known. Sometimes I kinda do wish I could have that choice to live a different life.”

“Fuck, man, I’m sure she did. But pack shit is weird. The rules are…confusing. And some people take them seriously.” Constantine frowned. “Our pack rules used to be all strict and shit like that, too. The only person who ever broke them was my brother, and then…I don’t know.” He flicked a drop of condesation off the side of his glass, wondering what would comfort Julian. “Well, you’re real mature about it, that’s something.”

“So you really don’t remember shit? Like at all?” Costa was unfamiliar with the plight of bitten wolves, since his pack had been all purebloods for generations. He’d warmed up to the idea but was still uninformed. “What do you think you were? Probably someone really rich, I bet. Surrounded by models and expensive cars.”

Julian shrugged, “I don’t have a choice. Through I did nearly get in a fist fight with her fiance, but now I’ve got one of my own, and she’s a really great girl who I want to do right by.”

He laughed. “Well, considering the fact I’ve been a wolf for almost a century, I’ve got to be at least 118 to 124...I can’t really remember how old I was, but it was in there. So, I highly doubt I was surrounded by models. And, I don’t know if I was rich. I remember my mom died when I was young, my dad was very strict and turned to alcohol after she was gone. He worked a lot, wore nice clothes...he was a real asshole. I went out camping or hiking or something and got attacked. I remember crawling into town and a man, who ended up being Silas, helping me in. Then things get foggy. When I woke up, Nala was at my side. God, she looked like an angel. This is back before she was triggered. Apparently the bite didn’t react well with me and pushed me into a fever I nearly died from. Could’ve been I was already a little sick, could’ve been the fact I was wandering aimlessly bleeding out for who knows how long. I owe Silas and Nala my life. That’s why I never left their sides, and why I always thought...I mean...I had no reason to think otherwise...Never mind.” He shook his head.

“Do you think that Blackwell guy was telling the truth?” uncertainty drawls syllables out, a brow lifting as she peers sideways at her company, “do you really think he knows how to end all this?” To end them?  “Or is he just full of shit?”

“Who the fuck even knows anything anymore. I’ve been so out of the loop that I’m sure whatever information I have is days old and half wrong anyway.” He said, exasperated. “I sure as hell hope he’s legit.”

For the first time in a very long time, Julian felt completely lost. It was almost as if he had been stripped of his identity and he didn't know how to reorient himself. He had someone to guide him the last time this happened, but that was no longer the case. In fact, the deterioration of that friendship and his place in the pack that had him spinning out. He'd never felt more like an outsider. There was one thing he could begin to revolve his life around, and it was the promise of family. He'd been spending more and more time with Juliette to bridge the gap between their established friendship and the new one they would be heading towards. Julian walked into her cafe and ordered a drink to sip on as he waited for her to be ready to head home. He'd started walking her home each day and sometimes evrn coaxing her into dinner at his place or going for a run. He was surprised at how easy it was for him to get butterflies around her. It helped that she always seemed to be jist as happy to see him too. A reaction he couldnt remember the last time he saw. As she finished up work, Julian waited patiently for her to come over. “Hey beautiful.” He smiled and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “How do you feel about a swim? I want to take you to my secret getaway.”

He blushed with a grin. “Thanks. You know, I’d began to forget what it felt like to be desired like that. I’m not really a one night stand kind of guy…my last relationship lasted…” decades, but he couldn’t say that “on and off since we were legal.” That was true. “So thank you. Hopefully this new relationship goes better.”

“I’m glad I could make a change. Next time, just imagine you haven’t been desired for a long time, and you might just please the girl the same way.” Valerie shrugged, so casually, as if they were discussing weather. “Well, best of luck to you. If it goes down the drain, you know where to find me for another one night stand.”

“I always bring my A game.” he winked. “I appreciate it, and I have hopes for this one...” it was true, but he also couldn’t let on that he’d be married to her regardless.

“Perfect!” His face lit up. “Um…both.” He grinned. “I’ve never planted sunflowers before…I have a place in mind, but I don’t know if it’s too much sun, or if they do need a lot…Help me Obi Wan, you’re my only hope.”

Quinn laughed slightly, motioning him to follow her over to her seed sections. “Sunflowers are not too picky when it comes to growing. They need at least six hours of sun, put in a place without too much wind, nutrient rich soil, and a place for their roots to stretch out a bit”, she explained, shuffling through some of the cheese cloth bags she had made until finding the one with the yellow and brown ribbons tied around the top.

He laughed and nodded. “Which pizza place? I’m dying for some garlic knots so apologies in advance for bad breath.” He drove them out to where she requested and got a cozy booth. “This place has some good dessert pizza too”

Julie gave a shrug of sorts and offered another laugh, “Any, i’m happy as long as they do vegetarian pizza and the bad breath is fine, don’t worry about it.” She added, letting him take her wherever he chose chuckling at the mention of desert pizza. “Awesome but again don’t tell my brother, definitely don’t want another thing he can hold over my head if I lecture him about his eating habits.” She half joked, laughing for a moment as she moved into the booth to take a seat.

Julian laughed. “Don’t worry, my lips are sealed. What kind of husband would I be if I blabbed all your secrets.” He smiled. The waitress came over and they ordered. “You know, it’s nice to spend time with someone and it not be all doom and gloom. Gets exhausting.”

I was an idiot.” Julian shook his head. “I’m still hurting, but I’m not wasting any more energy on anyone except you.” He was serious. “Juliette, I still want that dream of waking up with the woman I love in my arms, our kids running around in the back yard, everything. The only thing that’s changed is the lips I’ll kiss goodnight. I can’t wait to fall in love with you, and I hope someday you’ll feel the same way. So, I’d like us to start today.” Julian flashed a shy smile. “Would you like to go out with me?”

“I can’t speak for what she felt but you’re not an idiot, that much I know for sure.” Julie insisted with a nod. “Sure, I’d like that.” She added with a smile, part of her was glad he’d made the choice though she was far from selfish enough to wish or want much else. “And right now i’m starving for pizza. So come on.” Julie added with a grin.

“Well most guys arent me.” Je said, letting his arms linger around her waist. “I wanted to show you that I’m committed one hundred percent. We may not have chosen each other, but we get to choose to be happy. I’m tired of feeling miserable and brokenhearted, so why not invest more into us.” Julian took her hands and kissed her knuckles. “And you’re welcome over here whenever. I’m not asking you to move in yet, that’s a bit too soon, but my home is your home.” He smiled. “Okay, so pizza time.”

“Apparently not..-” she retorted in a teasing matter, glad to have forgotten her troubles for the time being. “Like I said before, I trust you on that so much so that I would’ve happily waited a hundred years if that’s the time you needed; I know you’re not going to mess anyone around and even more so I know you’re not gonna mess me around and I appreciate that.” She knew what it was to love someone that you weren’t allowed to do the forever part with, hell she’d seen that end badly because of her own ties to family. So she was just grateful for being given the time of day.”Thank you.” She added with a gentle smile, moving in to press a kiss against his cheek.

“Well, lucky her. You’ll sure know how to keep her satisfied.” Valerie teased the man. It was always amusing to her, following up with one night stands. While most seemed flustered, at least Julian seemed to own up to it.

“I haven’t had a chance to talk to him much, so I’m not sure.” Julian shrugged. He shook his head. “I could never be a vegetarian, so you’re in good heathen company.” Julian laughed. “Go open the curtains” He gestured. Once open, they’d reveal window sill high sunflowers. “Until we decide if we’re building a new house, at some point this will be your home, too. I wanted to give you something to look forward to when you wake up.”

“I’m sure he’s just off doing what he usually does, nothing to worry about.” She shrugged, Julie knew full well her brother could handle himself though that made her worry know less. “I have to cheat sometimes, I mean I just blame the inner wolf when I decide that eating a burger is what i’m gonna do.” She half joked, though it was the truth, she would always give herself an excuse for the odd cheat day that happened. 

Opening the curtains, left her with a raised brow for less than a second before her features turned into that of a warm smile at the beautiful sight. It was like nothing she’d ever seen and everything she wished to see, she turned and shook her head before she moved in to give Julian another hug. “I love it, it’s beautiful…-I mean I’m kinda wondering if your insane because most guys don’t do this for the people there with let alone someone they’re betrothed to but I really…really love it.” She smiled a little wider as she pulled away.

Since the fever from the bite fried his brain a bit, be was just glad that turning help heal physical damage done. “I’d had better, since we’re stuck together for better or worse.” He teased. “Of course, you’re my friend and the sister of one of my best friends. And I’m really enjoying getting to know you better.” He smiled and led her to his truck. “I drove because it’s disguising out.” He opened the door and offered his hand for her to get in. “You, the healthy queen eating pizza?!” Julian feigned shock. “Alright, let’s go.” He drove them to his place and parked out front, again circling around to open the door or at least offer a hand. “Not much chaos happened as far as I know while you were gone.” He took her inside. “Close your eyes.” He took her hand and placed it on his shoulder. Julian led her through his small cabin to his bedroom. “Okay, open.” The room was darkened as his curtains were shut, but there wasn’t anything remarkable or out of place or new.

She gave him a playful look of sorts before simply laughing for a moment, “That reminds me, how’s my brother been?” Julie asked out of genuine concern, still wondering what he’d say if she ever revealed what she’d been doing for the past week and so many days. “No kidding huh…-i’m terrible but it’s still gonna be slightly healthy…I mean i’ll get the vegetarian option…I still am a terrible heathen though.” She joked. 

Julie allowed him to lead her into his home, expecting to open her eyes and see some grate spectacle and when she didn’t all she could do was raise a brow as she looked toward Julian. “Am I…missing something?” she questioned curiously.

“Well you did say they’re your favorites.” He grinned up at her before heading to the door. “You, too.” He handed her the flowers. “So…do I get a hug?” Julian teased as he opened his arms for her. “I didn’t realize I’d miss you this much.” He said softly. “I’ve got a surprise for you back at my place, then we can go wherever you want for lunch, my treat.”

“That’s true, I guess i’m just surprised in the best way that you remembered.” Julie added with a small smile one that was more genuine than the last. “They gravitate toward the sun…weirdly metaphorical I guess but I promise not to bore you with all that; you do put up with me well and I appreciate that.” She added, right now she was in the head space that her father’s rejection had placed her in but it made her grateful none the less that he was trying with her which was exactly why she moved in to wrap her arms around him, hugging him gently and yet tightly at the same time. 

She gave a softer smile at his admission, “Thanks for missing me, I feel like Mark has too much going on to do that…-it’s nice to be missed.” Julie pursed her lips and gestured for him to lead the way. “I’m right besides you..lead me to this mysterious surprise and then I say we go for pizza but don’t tell Mark because i’ll never hear the end of it.”

Julian found himself more excited than he expected. He spent the morning finishing up some planting and went to take a shower. He dressed in a nice pair of jeans and a light blue tshirt, grabbed his flowers and left. Julian drove over to the Vaughns’ and instead of walking to the door, he went around side to where he knew Juliette’s window was. Finding a small pebble, he tossed it to tap against her window. It was cliche, especially with her name, but that was exactly why he did. His heart fluttered when he saw her face. “What light through yonder window breaks, it is the East, and Juliette is the sun.” He grinned, holding the bouquet of sunflowers. “I hope I’m the first person to do this.” Julian laughed. “Come on down, let me take you to lunch. I’ll meet you at the door.”

The trip back into town had seemed long but at the same time expected given how much of a failure she and the trip seemed as a whole not that she was going to reveal that to anyone; instead she’d offer each a smile and tell them how the retreat taught her lots of things and she was glad she went though she certainly wasn’t expecting to need to do that so soon.

She’d been in her room for a few moments, staring at the ceiling as she pondered over why she’d even attempted to seek out her father when the sound of rocks hitting her window had caused her to jump but regardless she made her way over, a smile not finding her lips until she spotted who it was.

It wasn’t like she hadn’t been texting Julian back and forth for the duration of her trip but it was still nice to see him in person again, granted that she wasn’t sure how long she could keep up the overly happy act before the truth came to the surface. She laughed for a moment, which was certainly a happy change from the last few days. 

“You’re the first and only…which is kinda surprising given everything but hey i’m not complaining…-I mean you got sunflowers.” She admitted before nodding and heading down and towards the front door which she made sure to lock behind her. 

“It’s nice to see you again by the way, I know we had the whole back and forth deal but still.” Julie added with a shrug before she tucked her hands into her pockets.
