I remember... 15 years ago I was on my way back to my 3rd grade classroom after specials. We walked into the classroom to see our substitute teacher weeping in front of the TV. That was the first time I realized the world was bigger than my little classroom and that bad things can and will happen. But that was also the first time I truly felt the spirit of #America. I watched adults all around me mourning for people they didn't know, doing whatever they could to help people halfway across the country. That is what our country is about. Through all tragedies and triumphs, let us remember the heart and spirit of America. #missamerica #misssd

Late night reflection as I prepare for my Miss America interview tomorrow: HE WINS. [thankfully] I was a Junior at South Dakota State University - LOVING college, my relationships, and my activities. There was no need for change... Or so I thought. But, a friend and classmate decided she needed to stop me in the Union and try to convince me to try a pageant. (You all know... so long story short, I agreed.) And there I was on stage with one of my dear friends.. Taking on a pageant just as a "bonding moment"! 😳 Little did I know that those seemingly insignificant moments would shape my path in very significant ways. Over the next 2.5 years God (SLOWLY and PAINFULLY) shifted my life around and brought me to a place where my only choice was to surrender to the path He had for me. And for some insane reason, He decided that I needed to be Miss South Dakota. I still cannot fathom why He would put me in this place, or give me such a vast platform to spread His love. I am overwhelmed, grateful and humbled as I sit in my hotel room reflecting on my Miss America experience thus far. I am learning to be so thankful for the wilderness, the loneliness, and the scars I bear because it only furthers the proof of God's grace and mercy in this sinner's life. Now, tomorrow just before 1:30pm I get to meet my #MissAmerica judges and share the JOY, PEACE and CONFIDENCE I now have because of my sweet Jesus. HE WINS because little did I know that He has been preparing me for this my whole life. He created me for this time and this place. [Esther 4:14] Prayers, thoughts and messages are so appreciated!
