Being an artist means forever healing your own wounds and at the same time endlessly exposing them.

“Yeah, it’s lovely. It’s quite like this actually, but the weather’s much nicer and more like a village but little cottages so it’s quite cute I would say.” Talking about her hometown like this was starting to make her homesick so she stopped talking. “Oh no, it’s fine, really.” She replied, watching him continue to paint. “Olivia.”
“I can imagine it being much hotter and kinder in terms of weather. The weather can be very harsh here,” he agreed with a nod of his head. “I’d really love to paint a village one day, especially in an European country. I can imagine it being beautiful. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Olivia. What do you study?”
“I’m starting to think our schedules match up way too often.” Aaron laughed softly as he took a long sip of his coffee. “Cold but I kind of like it. I uh, have an extra coffee here cause the woman messed up my order. You want it?”
Julian chuckled. “That’s not necessarily a bad thing, is it?” He asked, glad that they’d managed to move away from the awkward phase of their friendship. Jules didn’t want a girl getting in their way. “That would be great, I’d like that.”
He moved his arms in synchronization, or attempted to, jogging down the stone path. Following the trail by the woods Caleb enjoyed the feeling of drawing in fresh air, feeling his head clearing and his muscles starting to slightly burn. His foot stuck on a rock, and he fumbled forward, wincing a little and slowing to a walk. As he made another turn his eyes fell on a canvas not far from the trail. The boy wasn’t surprised then when a voice sounded. “Maybe? It was supposed be more of a jog but I nearly fell down back there so I figured walking might be safer.” Taking in the scene before him as he halted, the other and the canvas, he added. “Isn’t it way, way to cold to paint outside?”
“Walking through the woods is the easiest option, the ground is very uneven here. I hope you didn’t hurt yourself,” Julian added, returning his attention back to the painting in front of him. The artist shrugged. “I grew up here, I’m used to the cold now.”
Her feet were moving but she was hardly paying attention to them at all. She could have been walking for hours and not even notice. Sarah’s mind was driving her forward, making sure she scrambled on, going in circles, grasping for answers, solutions, conclusions. When a boyish voice disrupted her thoughts, the brunette sidestepped and had to hold out both her arms for balance. “Huh? Sorry, what did you say??”
He smiled a little when he noticed that it was Sarah who had stumbled near him. Although that smile was quick to fade once he noticed that she didn’t really seem to be paying attention at all. “Sarah, are you alright?” Julian asked, a frown forming on his face.
Olivia’s European accent had almost completely died out, but some of her words still sounded different to the way Americans would say it. “Germany. Can you tell?” She asked, wondering how prominent her accent was to other people. “Wow, that’s really impressive. Please, continue.”
“Is it nice over there?” He asked before quickly shaking his head. “No, I could only hear it slightly so I figured you might be from Europe somewhere. I shouldn’t have assumed.” He wandered back over to the canvas and picked up his paintbrush. “Thank you. I’m Julian by the way.”
“True, but I’m used to the boring countryside and there’s not really anywhere else for me to go.” Olivia replied, trying not to ponder that thought too much. Her eyes widened suddenly at the sight before her. “Oh my gosh, that is beautiful. You did this?”
He detected an accent but he couldn’t place what country she was from so he just asked her instead of continuing to play detective. “Where are you from?” A playful grin formed on his face at her reaction. “I did do it indeed.” Julian held up his paint covered hands.
“Twenty years, wow that’s a long time.” She commented. “I guess I’ve got about nineteen years to go then.” She continued with a slight laugh, trying to keep the conversation light and herself distracted. “No, not really. What are you doing anyway?”
“Tell me about it,” he chuckled to himself, nodding along with her. “I wouldn’t advise staying here for another nineteen years, it’s a great place but it gets quite boring after a while.” Julian stepped aside a little so she could see the canvas and the painting. “I was painting.”
Olivia had decided, after hours of sitting in her dorm, alone, that she needed a little fresh air to clear her head. Her legs had fallen asleep from sitting on them for so long, but she didn’t really think about it. Stepping outside, she breathed in the fresh, cool air and continued walking across the grass. A voice startled her, being a little wrapped up in her own head. “What? Oh, yeah a little I guess.” She replied.
Julian looked up when he heard the female voice, a smile on his face. “You get used to this sort of weather after living in Charlton for twenty years,” he told her. “I hope I didn’t interrupt your thoughts,” Julian added when he noticed how wrapped in her own she seemed to be.
Julian rolled up his sleeves, revealing his paint covered arms as he stood in front of the canvas. The woods were quiet during this time of day and he decided it would be a nice place to paint - after all, trees were always the easiest thing to paint. He heard a noise and looked up. “It’s a little cold for a stroll, isn’t it?”
Growing up with Julian was easy, he never had a problem with the guy and he was used to his company. She laughed a little looking at him, “Oh how can I forget that? As long as you don’t do that again, I think now it would be funny for me but not you because you’ll have to clean that suit yourself.”
“I couldn’t get rid of that chocolate for a long time. It was everywhere, Devon. Everywhere.” He laughed, remembering the faces of the other guests. “But there’s a matcha fountain here so I don’t plan in crashing into it.”
Aleksi shrugged lightly, “How, um, how did that happen?” he questioned carefully, too curious as to exactly how the other boy had ended up covered in so many different shades of lipstick to not ask. “Me? I mean, I’ve just mostly … kind of stood here? Um, people-watching is fun at stuff like this, I guess.”
“I recognized one of the girls, I went to say hello and the next minute I had all of her friend surrounding me And then this,” he pointed to his face while laughing at how crazy the night had been so far. “Hey man, I’m not one to judge on what you find fun at places like this. But as long as you’re having fun that’s all that matters.”
Kelsey giggled, he was cute and charismatic and she loved meeting people of the sort. “Oh what a disaster!” She chimed as she took another sip and sent him a playful wink at his ‘space reserved just for you’ comment. Putting down the champagne and holding out her hand, Kelsey smiled brightly. “Definitely fitting… I’m Kelsey, Julian. Pleasure to meet you.”
Julian didn’t know why but he seemed to be good with words tonight. He didn’t think it was right to question it since he would most likely make a full out of himself the next day. Returning the wink with his own, he shook Kelsey’s hand. “The pleasure is all mine. So what’s a pretty lady like you doing near a guy like me? I would have thought you’d be surrounded by many of the other guys.”
