For my personal interest project, I was inspired by the work of a current German photographer, Nicholas White. His work contains a primary focus on portraiture, especially portraits of women. Something that draws me to his photographs the most is his use of dark tones and high grain. After observing his works, I’ve noticed that there is no pure white tone in his black and white portraits, but instead the whites have been exposed to appear gray.
The primary reason of influence by Nicholas White is that I wanted to practice portraiture: both the set-up and design of the shot and then actually executing the shot. I prefer his use of shooting and editing in black and white, and implemented that in my work as well.
