I can separate my dislikes.” He replied back with a sly smile as he went in to get changed into his t shirt and light sweater. He came back in and shook his head after hearing her question. “Not at all. You’re incredibly smart but wearing that just makes your pretentious spill right out of you.” He chuckled already thinking Harvard was a lifetime ago. Though couldn’t help but think the sweater looked good. “I don’t mind. Let’s go. Ladies first.” He grabbed his keys from the night table and opened the door for her. “You’re not gonna carry your purse? Wait You’re gonna put it in the hoodie pockets? You’re weird juju.”

She let out a soft chuckle. “I agree but I’m just saying, thank you for loving her enough to suggest how best for me to care for her while I was away. Thank you for all of the presents over the years. Thank you, yeah just thank you. You’re amazing, you know that?” She would never really be able to tell him just how grateful she was too him. She got her shoes on after changing into her jeans. “Pretentious? Wow you’re feeling rude.” She smirked as she said it to let him know that she was just kidding. “As long as you still can stand me while I’m in pretentious mood, that’s all that matters.” It really was. She didn’t know if she would stay calm and collected most days. “I don’t feel like dealing with my purse. I just want to take my wallet so yes, I’m going to put it in the hoodie pocket. You’re weird.” She led the way down to the car. “So where are we going after we pick up my girl?”

Turning her head to look over her shoulder, Ivy nodded towards the male with the backwards baseball cap. “The one who looks like he should still be in a college dorm with his cap on backwards,” Ivy said with a chuckle before looking back towards the blonde.”It’s nice to meet you as well. “Definitely, a helpful hand isn’t just a thing I extend to women.” Shit helping her ex-husband is what brought her back to town. Jules looked where the brunette was looking and scrunched up her nose. “Wow, frat bro over there. Yikes.” She shook her head with a smile. “Can I get you your next drink? We can hang out for a bit. I haven’t been in town long and I would love to make some new friends.”

Now they reached four.” She knew Jules would ask where the fourth one was and before she could ask, she had a response ready. “Before the twins there was a little one. A little girl. That loss hit them both the hardest. I can never forget that face. It broke my heart and I swore if I was ever capable of giving them another chance I would. Third time was the charm.” Lei smiled proudly at that. “It’s cucumber shaped in an oyster. Zeze made them.” She nodded and hummed. “Have you met the step mom yet?”

"You are too sweet, helping them make their set complete." Hearing that the boys had lost one at the start of their parenting journey but they kept going instead of stopping made her smile softly. That wasn't an easy thing to do. "I had no idea. They don't really talk about her much do they? Too painful?" She tried the food she had in her hand and smiled. "That is pretty good. So Zeze, are the two of you dating?" Juliette rolled her eyes. "I did meet the stepmom. She gave me attitude within the first few minutes of our conversation so I dished it right back. Probably a little immature but." She trailed off with a shrug.

He smiled softly but decided not to tease her as he played with her fingers like he used to as kids. Rett heard the way Raleigh’s voice came through and knew that giving her an outlet to let loose without exploding on people who didn’t deserve it. He could see how those words affected Juju and only just grabbed her hand tighter. “Mm no don’t thank me. She’s your small mini me how could I not love her? I’ve been in her life way too long to not care for her like she was my own. Sometimes it did feel like she was my own when I went crazy trying to think of a gift for her birthday and Christmas. Which you were of no help by the way.” He nudged her shoulder and got down pressing into her body being in close contact and wrapped his arm around her dragging her upstairs. “I’ll be nice and let you borrow my Harvard sweater so you can feel smart.” The dirty blonde smirked and let go going into his closet and got the hoodie out for her. “You drive or do you want me to? Here this looks like it fits Raleigh. She may get cold.”

Jules smiled at Rett. “Yes, she is my mini me, but she has just as much of him in her too. So I do owe you thanks. You’ve always spoiled her and treated her like family when you could’ve hated her.” After he hopped off of the counter she wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head against his chest. As she felt him dragging her upstairs she happily followed. “Are you saying I’m not smart?” She teased knowing that wasn’t what he meant in the least. She happily took his sweatshirt and threw it on. “Good thinking, we will put it in the car for her. Do you mind to drive?”

“But then again I could put a potato sack over your head and you’d still rock it.” There was a commercial and that had him make eye contact with her as he felt her hand on his leg knowing full well she’d be the type to squeeze it hard just to fuck with him. He put his hand over hers in order to prevent that from inevitably happening and snorted. “Okay but only if you blindly agree to whatever I have in mind. Deal?’ His phone rang and while his hand kept hers in place not wanting any funny business he answered and a second later handed it to juju. "It’s your kid wanting to ask if you’d wanna do something tonight? Whatever I have planned does work for three.”

“You’re too kind.” She said with a smile. Feeling the warmth of his hand on hers she felt a slight blush appearing on her cheeks. She threaded her fingers though his. “Deal.” She took the phone from him with a smile. “Of course you can come hang out. I just agreed to let Rett choose what we do. So I hope you don’t mind an adventure.” I don’t mind at all. I just need out of the house. They could both hear the response come out of the phone. She shook her head. It broke her heart that her daughter was no longer happy in the house she had been raised in. “Of course, baby. We will pick you up on our way. Okay?” She heard her daughter say okay before hanging up the phone. “Thank you for loving my girl.”

“If your version of awkward stage was your two years wearing braces then my god you’re really modest.” He laughed and hopped up on their counter top just to get some more of the food. “Unbelievable that the ones that have the whole package think their awkward stages are something so small.” He shook as he whispered and glanced up at the TV chewing on his blueberry. “It’s also that rule you put that no lawyer shit gets inside once I’m home. That works too. Though the sage makes me sneeze every time you use it.” The talk of her ex husband and father or her child perturbed him. She was always the one who couldn’t walk away from him no matter how much he hurt her. “I’m surprised and not to overstep but I’m glad you were smart enough to follow my suggestion on giving his sister custody when your baby was two. He went down a path that the kid would have not really thrived in. I feel bad for his fiancé currently. If he lied to his own sister I can’t imagine him being honest with his fiancé. They really say there’s someone for some fool. I hated giving her the news. I didn’t want her to find out by me.”

“What about that awful haircut I had in tenth grade after trying to cut the perm that I got in ninth grade out? That was pretty awkward too.” She shook her and and shrugged her shoulders. “I think you are the only one that thinks I have the whole package.” She put her hand on his leg and looked up at him. “I don’t want you to be stressed out when you are at home, just like you don’t want me stressed out or thinking about work.” She could see the irritation in the way that his jaw clenched at the talk of Mickey. “I am so glad I did that when I did. I can only imaging where that little girl would be now.” She shook her head and let out a sigh. “I can only imaging how tough that was but I am sure that she is glad to know. Who knows when Mick would have told her.” She let out a sigh. “Let’s talk about or do something else.”

Thae raised an eyebrow ever so slightly. She wasn’t about to get her fiance in trouble at work, so she kept her mouth shut. “Right, sorry. I’ll be sure to have a chat with him.” When the woman said her name, she suddenly saw a bit of Rae in her. “Ah, you’re Rae’s biological mother. She is a phenomenal girl,” she said, smiling softly. “Aren’t they? They definitely look more like Matty than me, right now.”

Juliette was glad that Thae didn’t press her for more information. She nodded her head. “That I am. That’s my baby girl.” She knew her daughter wasn’t a baby anymore but she would always be her baby girl. “Thank you, I have her Auntie Maggy to thank for that. As well as you and her father.” While she had been away she did keep a weekly phone date with her daughter and Rae knew she could call whenever she needed to. She nodded with a smile. “I don’t know, I can see a little of you in the boys.”

That took about two seconds mid reply for her to say yes.” He showed off his phone in case she didn’t believe him and smiled. “Talk about hurting her baby’s feelings.” He already knew his mother had favorites, he was used to it by now but didn’t mean he didn’t love teasing Juju over it. “That was one time and that was before I hit puberty. Doesn’t count.” He retorted. “I can’t believe you saw me pre puberty. That kid makes me cringe.” He thought about it and shook his head. “You have Monicaesque qualities but not quite. I think you are a mix of Rachel and Phoebe. You like messes too much to be anal Monica. The only reason I saw Rachel is because you come from money. Not that you are clueless about the world. Phoebe because you cleanse my aura every time I walk under an umbrella.” He sighed and nodded. “I’d do anything for you and your family. I don’t like him but that is not news to you. I had to tell his sister about it since I asked her for the money transactions and she had no idea that she was being swindled. That doesn’t really scream great guy in my book.”

Jules couldn’t help the smirk that appeared on her face. “I’m sorry your mom loves me more than you.” She was just teasing and she knew he would know that. They had only been friends forever. “Well, I will always love you.” She laughed at his statement. “I’ve known you since we were in diapers. I went through an awkward stage or two too.” She offered trying to fix the sting. “Well, I will take that as a compliment then. Gotta keep your aura clear, I can tell when you are bogged down by a cloudy aura.” She nodded as he said that he would do anything for her. “Just as I would do anything for you. I really think when I was young, I only thought he was good looking. I think I got a little carried away in his looks. I mean, he was kind to me but I saw him snap at people too. I can’t believe you had to tell her she was being swindled. And by her own brother. That has to sting.” Jules was glad that she had never given her ex-husband access to her accounts.

Juliette had a couple of minutes on her way into work. She hadn’t been sleeping well lately and while she wouldn’t normally be a coffee drinker she had to stop this morning for a cup. Her job was a lot more demanding and stressful than she would’ve imagined when she took it on.

As she was looking around the coffee shop, waiting for her order to come up, she saw an old friend. She walked over to him and waved. “Hi, Owen.” She remembered how to sign his name, but she hadn’t used her asl in awhile and probably wouldn’t be able to carry out a full conversation, but it was so nice to see a friend she hadn’t seen in awhile.

“You can tag along with me and Grant when we go see Graham’s newborn. Ha ha probably the first one that opened the gates to the fifteen little terrors. I’m sure she’d have no issue putting out another plate for her favorite non child. You can bring your daughter if you want. I know Ror and Lu will come down the week after so she can meet the newest Carter. Have you seen her yet? She’s so darn cute. Has my ma’s dark hair from that picture you saw at the house when she was ten.” Juju felt like she was family with all the things she was part of. “My genetics keeps us all shaggy.” He grinned and laughed. “He wanted Rachel so bad he forgot to be a decent human being. She wasn’t a trophy.” He hummed and sighed. “He’s in big shit and you helping him out even though you are gonna look like the villian is not fair to you. He’s got himself into this shit and still he has you to bail him out. I’m only taking this case because you asked me to.”

"I would love to tag along with you." She said with a wide smile. She loved babies. Always had. "You know I love your mom's cooking but I never want to be a bother." She smiled knowing the exact picture he was talking about. This was why a relationship with him would feel weird. He was more of a best friend or family member than a love. And without him in her life she would honestly be lost. She shook her head. "I've seen you not be shaggy." She rolled her eyes. "I hate that so much. Bad writing on the screenwriters honestly. Would you say I'm a Monica?" She shrugged. "I don't mind to be portrayed as the villain if I keep him from going belly up in the sun. Or worse. I appreciate you helping me out. I know he's not your favorite but if I came back and he went to jail I fear Leigh would think I did something to have him arrested. My girl has already been through too much with me leaving her that I can't let her daddy be taken from her."

“I’d appreciate that, thank you! Yes…well, for all intents and purposes. We’ve just been engaged for a very long time,” she explained, nodding. Thae frowned slightly. “Really? That’s it? I mean, your plans aside only ten to fifteen minutes for his lunch break seems…extreme,” she said, chewing on her bottom lip. “God, I’m so sorry, I’m not trying to tell you how to run your business. I’m Thaelea! And these two handsome men are Nikolai and Natanael!” she explained, her mixed accent coming in thick with the names.

“Oh okay. Well, a belated congrats on your engagement.” She said with a smile. The moment that Thae started to freak out she realized that she had her hands full. “Look, I’m sorry. I can’t give him anymore time. You really need to talk to your fiance. Or well, he apparently needs to talk to you about some stuff. It isn’t my place to tell you why his work schedule has changed so drastically.” She knew her words probably came off harsh but she didn’t care. She was bailing out not only Matty but his family as well. She deserved thanks not attitude. “Nice to meet you, Thaelea. My name is Juliette. The boys are adorable.“ The boys reminded her a bit of Rae as a baby.

She moved closer towards her when feeling her arm wrapped around her waist. “Possibly… but the fact that he can’t do this with me – that must annoy the hell out of him,” she let out a laugh. “And I will forever thank you. "We've got to help each other out. I don't want to live in a world where women don't help each other out." And she wanted to make sure her daughter knew to help other girls out when they needed it. "Oh, I'm sure it is driving him crazy. Which guy is it?" She was genuinely curious. She had a smile on her face as she looked around. "If you insist, just a refill is enough." She said with a smile. She would've helped without the promise of a drink. "Nice to meet you, I'm Jules."

He took a pause as it sank in that she knew. She knew the deep shit he was in. What he couldn’t do was be the major asshole he could be toward her. Not after this. “All I ask is please whatever you do. Do it quietly. I don’t want my mess up to affect my family.” Matthew had no choice now, he was in too deep to not accept the help he so desperately needed. “I can pay back everything I owe. Just don’t let this get out to the public. It’s all I ask. I’ll do whatever you want just don’t.” He shook his head and cleared his throat. “I don’t want the management job. It’s uh It’s too much responsibility for me to take after my actions. I fucked up bad Jules. I don’t deserve the high position. Give me anything else.”

She paid attention to his face as it sunk in. “Look, I don’t want to make it public or affect your family. The concern is it will effect your finances a bit. You’re basically starting over at zero. The cards you’ve gotten used to using have been cancelled and you are going to basically have an allowance like a teenager. That’s going to be the toughest adjustment because I know you are used to spending as you see fit.” A part of the agreement was he couldn’t keep dipping into the hotel monies and he couldn’t keep dipping into the funds from his father either. With her being back Leigh would be taken care of as she was accustomed to. Nothing would change for their daughter. “I know you can. I fully expect that you will.” She shrugged. “Look, if you want to keep it private and out of the news, you still need to be the figure head. I made my father promise to keep it quiet. I will be running everything. You won’t have to worry about any of the high level decisions.”

Jules shook her head, never imagining that someone would want to check that off their bucket list. She remembered when she had Leigh and there was a reason she only had one kid. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard that. And if I have it was more a bucket list item because someone wanted a kid.” She chuckled nervously. She wasn’t really hungry but she went ahead and picked one up. “Okay, what is this again?” She smiled thinking about the little baby she had held. “She sure is a precious little princess. I would say you did a great job baking her. But that is no surprise since you are a baker.” She teased, she had missed these chats with friends. She hadn’t had much of a chance to catch up with people since getting back into town. “It is weird being back. As for Leigh, I don’t think she believed that I was back for good. Not that I blame her since I haven’t been around much. I don’t think I will ever make up for that.” As for her ex’s new love, she didn’t have much to say on the matter. She only knew what she had heard from the grapevine, she didn’t have enough time to form an opinion.

Thae entered the hotel lobby, and did a quick glance over for her fiance, but he didn’t seem to be anywhere in sight. “Where do we think daddy is?” she asked, her question pointed to the twins in the two-seated stroller she pushed. She spotted someone who looked like they at least worked here, and decided to greet them. “Hi! I’m so sorry to bother you,” she started, approaching the woman with a smile. “Have you seen Matthew, anywhere? We’re supposed to be getting lunch and he’s usually waiting for me in the lobby,” she explained, giving the room another glance over.

Juliette looked up from her work behind the reception desk and smiled. “He is working on something. If you want to go sit, I can give him a call. I’m assuming you’re his wife?” Juliette had her own thoughts in her mind about the woman before her, but they weren’t based on actually getting to know her, just on things she had heard for Raeleigh, Matty, Maggy, and Rett. “I’ve been keeping him busy today. His lunch break is only going to be ten maybe fifteen minutes. I need him to stay around property. He should have let you know about the change in his schedule.”
