Bridget Jones’s Diary 📕 (2001)
Dirty Dancing (1987) dir. Emile Ardolino
“I can’t even do the merengue.” “See?” “Johnny, you’re a strong partner, you can lead anybody!” “But you heard her— she can’t even do the merengue! She can’t do it. She cannot do it.”
Today’s top book news item:
Laura Ingalls Wilder’s rough memoir of frontier life, which served as the basis for her Little House on the Prairie series, will be published this fall as Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography. The Associated Press reports, “The not-safe-for-children tales include stark scenes of domestic abuse, love triangles gone awry and a man who lit himself on fire while drunk off whiskey,” adding, “Wilder and her daughter Rose Wilder Lane, herself a well-known author, tried and failed to get an edited version of the autobiography published throughout the early 1930s.” It will be published by the South Dakota State Historical Society Press.
Laura Ingalls Wilder (1867-1957) was an author of children’s books, best known for her Little House on the Prairie series. The popular books dealt with life in a settler and pioneer family.
In addition to her writing, she also had a career as a teacher, started at the age of 16. She had a weekly column in the Missouri Ruralist newspaper, where she talked about farm life and the increasing opportunities of a woman at the time.

Willa Sibert Cather (December 7, 1873 – April 24, 1947)
American writer who achieved recognition for her novels of frontier life on the Great Plains, including O Pioneers! (1913), The Song of the Lark (1915), and My Ántonia (1918). In 1923 she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for One of Ours (1922), a novel set during World War I. (Wikipedia)

At his touch, he felt her change within his grip and there was madness and magic in the slim body he held and a hot soft glow in the green eyes which looked up at him. Of a sudden, it was no longer bleak winter. For Ashley, spring was back again, that half forgotten balmy spring of green rustlings and murmurings, a spring of ease and indolence, careless days when the desires of youth were warm in his body. The bitter years since then fell away and he saw that the lips turned up to his were red and trembling and he kissed her.
