The assets created for the intro! It is animated in AE.
Update 5/10
So shading is almost finished. Have about 4 more shots to do. Hopefully it will be finished tomorrow as planned. It’s been really slow at shading at the moment. Realistically I was hoping to have shading done today and then a day’s break, but that hasn’t happened. After shading, I will be starting on the title sequence. This will be a short, simple sequence animated in After Effects. I have been compositing as I go, so the compositing and editing that I had scheduled for the next two weeks will be used finishing up the title sequence and putting in the last shots. - Tyler.
A rough video of the collated progress for ‘Jun and Conrad’.
Update 19/09
Okay! So colouring has slowly begun after finishing animation and clean-up over the past month. Some changes to the animation have been made in clean-up as the animation was roughly drawn. Everything has been finished on task, but to be honest, the enthusiasm for the project has pretty much been brought down completely. Although the project has been progressing as plan, it doesn’t look or feel like I had envisioned when originally pitching the project, or even at the animatic stage. At this point, I’m hoping colour brings life back into the project for me.
Some of Jun and Conrad’s interactions in final rough animation. Ashana animated the hand in the top image, the faces and Conrad were animated by Tyler.
The animation for shots 13, 2, 14 and 5. Ashana animated Jun’s hand for shot 13 and 5 and the bell. The bell is fully finished. Tyler animated Conrad in shots 13, 14 and 5, as well as the mouth and facial expressions of shot 5. This is synced to sound. Progress is going fairly well, rough sound was received during the week, so mouth animations have begun.
Update 10/08

Ashana’s animations so far for Shot 13, with Jun’s hand. The keyframes from the animatic were used for the base of where to hit Conrad on the head. These still need to be animated, but the animation for the hand needed to be done first so the timing of the turn of Conrad’s head could be properly timed.
Jun’s movement is some of Ashana’s animations for shot 5. Her animation is the top shot was the final one chosen. Ashana’s reason for Jun’s wrist snapping back before being placed on the table is that “in movies, the Kung Fu masters did it in this way. The reason why they have to go back to the position is because they close the fan so quick; so it is like a natural reaction for them to make their wrist back to the original position”. The blue Conrad is animated by Tyler.
Conrad’s voice is being recorded Friday thanks to the fantastic Robert Zosars and Dion Clark. Here are some voice variations for Conrad’s voice. The first voice will be the final tone for Conrad.
Ashana has finished the arm movement on Jun for shot 10/11, the ‘tapping to the beat’ shot of the animation. Initially the movement was a loop of 10 frames, but two frames were cut and this was changed to eight. Eight frames follows an even beat and matches the beat of Conrad shaking his butt in the same scene. The two animations are being compared in the top animation.
Update 2/08 Ashana has come on board to animate! She has begun working on a scene near the end of the the project, where Jun begins tapping her fan. The top two animations are her initial tests. She will experiment with Jun bopping her head as well. A new animatic has been rendered with the frame rates so that the timing and amount of frames will be correct. Currently, I am working at 24 frames a second, on twos. The bottom shot has been animated by me (Tyler) roughly, as the mouth/head of Conrad the cat needs to be animated to the sound which is yet to be recorded.
Update 28/05
Although a little later than planned, the animatic will be finished before today is over. All of the shots have been created, and I will start putting them in over the placeholder storyboard images I first worked with to get the timing. All of the SFX, voices and songs are in place. ALMOST DONE. Will be having help today from Tod to do any additional After Effects goodness. - Tyler
Update 24/05
So Jun’s lines have been recorded and the timing for each shot finalised. The animatic will be starting to be put together in a few days, estimated time Thursday morning. I have been working on the titles and the credits as I want this to be done with the Animatic.
