michael’s monologue in the movie absolutely makes me think of him with william just Talking to try and fill the space, saying anything that comes to mind in some desperate bid to earn his father’s attention, get a response even if it’s just a vague hum. sometimes william would breathe a laugh or smile wryly at some comment michael made, or actually take michael’s idea into account, and michael would be on cloud nine for days. more than anything, though, it was a whole lot of talking while being completely ignored.

or a fist slamming into william’s desk, a backhand thrown at michael, a tool thrown at the wall. and michael would fall immediately, obediently, silent.

michael loves horror movies and finds them comforting. he’s absurdly good at arcade games because he spent hours upon hours playing them as a child, left to his own devices at freddy’s while his father worked and vanessa was showered with attention. he smokes but feels guilty every time he does it because his father hated it. he’s a good cook but subsists almost entirely off of junk food because he doesn’t care about himself and forgets to eat, and he tends to sleep through the day and stay up all night even when he isn’t working. he avoids eye contact with himself in mirrors and can’t sit straight in chairs, instead curling a leg underneath himself or hooking his heel on the seat. he talks to himself and often forgets to stop on the rare occasion there’s somebody else around him. sometimes he’ll lose hours to dissociation and hardly notice, and sometimes he’ll find himself crying with no idea what set him off or why.

love the idea of it being a mixture of him simply being a bit of a little shit and also the desperate bids for attention of a neglected child. he knows he gets in trouble and punished anyway, so he might as well do it in ways that make william look at him, get him picked up by william even if it’s rough enough to bruise and accompanied by threats hissed in his ear.

while vanessa is posing for pictures in the restaurants and sitting politely with her friends trying to act normal, michael’s utterly forgotten, left to run amok — sprinting around the tables, climbing on things, sticking his tongue out at other children while he shows off that he’s allowed to go backstage and into the employee areas. if anyone tries to wrangle him (sometimes his mother, usually a poor underpaid fazbear employee) they are at severe risk of being chomped as hard as michael can before he scrambles off again, enjoying the chase. enjoying the feeling of being wanted, even if it’s only because he’s running away.

also love michael being a runner in the realm of absconding/wandering (autism! autism!). he’s rarely supervised and being alone is boring so he’ll just…leave. sneak out of the garden and go wandering around the neighbourhood, leave the restaurant and be found hours later after a frantic search scratched up playing in the woods. william hates it. hates having to put on a performance every time that he cares whether or not the boy is found.

anyway one time michael bit the police officer that found him wandering at night and tried to bring him home. was delivered to the afton home’s front door with a big manic grin on his face and a scowling cop holding his collar.
