Ben 10 issue #2 yap session [SPOILERS]
The issue starts with Gwen complaining about Ben in the rustbucket even though I believe it only been referred to as the RV up to this point. Gwen seem to maybe be wearing something else as there’s a pink cat on her shirt. Maybe it a medallion as it’s later not on her shirt in the last page, it’s also not the same top she had in issue 1 though so maybe the cat was meant to be there and it just an error. Her nagging about Ben’s reaction defiantly showing that this time around Ben and Gwen are being characterised with an actual 10 year olds level of maturity with them both really struggling with empathy, the original series was able to portray there immaturity but also had them being able to see when there in the wrong whilst still making them feel like kids so the change is interesting I hope they do grow out of this behaviour as i can imagine it could get very annoying as comic issue go on. Still more to say on page 1 Gwen finds some tech in the rustbucket probably from grandpa Max’s plumber days or what ever this iteration of the plumbers are.
Next two page just show Ben rightfully freaking out I mentioned that the kids felt more immature than the show being in line for their age but Ben reaction to being an alien is actual the opposite were in the show he got over the freak and out quick to switch to messing around, comic Ben is much more realistic to reaction taking the situation seriously. Also the art on these pages are amazing and beautiful fire effects. We then get more amazing art on the next page with Ben cycling through some of his transformations we see a Heatblast to upgrade morph that look amazing, an absolutely disgusting morph of Grey Matter to Wildvine, then Wildvine to Stinkfly then to overflow then strangely Stinkfly to XLR8 shouldn’t it have been overflow to XLR8 kinda weird. Then we get another shot of XLR8 with Ben head coming out almost like a tumour, now that i think about it a lot of the growth on transformation give me a tumorous feel to them. Seem like we the only alien that didn’t appear was Fourarms and Cannonbolt which make sense as we have seen or about to see them also no Diamondhead unless I missed it in the morph.
Then we have Max finding his way to the military camp not actual being surprised that there is one here also taking the situation of being detained very casually. We then learn that Max has some high up clearance but Rozum definitely doesn’t recognise him and is highly distrusting of him, despite his seeming clearance and somewhat awareness he seem to have of what’s going on he playing his story straight that he just camping and happens to end up here which is true.
We then have Ben see another crash landing and I thought we were about to immediately get Vilgax I don’t know why that would have been way to soon, but it turned out o be Krabb a much more reasonable threat I thought until what we see in a few pages but I’ll get to that for now we have Ben avoiding the military I wonder if he’s conserved that he would be in trouble or they might try to remove the omnitrix no matter how painful. We then see a Cannonbolt transformation like with Fourarms I feel like his introduction pose is offl his feet wouldnt sit properly on the ground but this is a much better starting pose with Cannonbolt.
We get to see how Cannonbolt goes ball mode and it’s like his body just sort completely rearranges itself not like an Armodrillo or headgehog would, you could say it’s very alien. His face remaining in the ball form is weird, is his face slamming into the ground that sound painful and dizzy. Also I remember seeing a sneak peek of issue 2 and I remember there being a transformation scene for Cannonbolt but it wasn’t hear was thst for issue 3 since it wasn’t in the comic I won’t talk about it.
We then move onto more talking with Max and Rozum with Max staying to his story and Rozum being suspicious, we get some more talking from the two until Rozum gets news of his troops finding something. Then a shot of the military looking around before them find Krabb in an awesome shot really good art this issue.
Then something takes me by surprise we see Krabb slam the solider away nothing too different from the violences shown in the series then we get a silhouette shot of Krab cutting someone in half seeing blood splatter. Loved the shot with red background and black silhouette. Then we get coloured image of Krabb stabbing a solider with his claw and an amazing show with similar to red background but crab in colour with his claw slowing slowing detail to shadow till it merges with the silhouette of blood of a solider he kills of panel. I knew because of the higher age rating there would be violence but it caught me really off guard the use of the first action panel being the sorts violence that the cartoon could get away with them immediately the next being so visceral is incredible.
The last two page is reallly funny with Gwen running over Cannonbolt with the rustbucket again art been amazing this issue shame that last two page had some errors with Cannonbolt back plate being coloured white like I understood how it happened in animation but in the comic it feels sloppy, also Gwen missing the pink cat I mentioned earlier. Also the panel of Cannonbolt trying to run away from the rustbucket look really good. Interesting to note that despite Gwen obsession with alien she immediately hostile to one claiming she won’t let alien invade her world, I thought she’d think meeting an alien is cool.
I’m very excited for the next issue hopeful we see Ben fight Krabb and also get to see Gwen reaction to finding out the alien is Ben this issue was great I liked it a lot more than the first one not that issue # 1 was bad or anything
