so hear me out.... celebrities au:

all four of them are in the music industry

ina is a famous pianist who was a child prodigy and comes from a family of musicians

she mainly composes songs for movie soundtracks and the like, and she collaborates with other musicians across several genres

ina doesn't post much on social media, but nadia had insisted that ina make an instagram for her cat finn

(finn ends up having more followers on insta than nadia)

nadia is a rising pop star who also acts from time to time

she entertains her two bajillion followers on twitter with memes, wacky shower thoughts at like 2am, and hilarious clapbacks for the haters

she is somehow both a fashion star and a fashion disaster (read: she is always topping the best dressed lists for the red carpets, but then she will deadass wear crocs on stage at a concert)

ryan is a songwriter and composer who has collaborated with and ghostwritten for a slew of artists

he rarely sings himself, even on the songs he writes for his own albums, opting instead to shine the spotlight on newer, lesser known artists

(he does make tiny cameos on all of the music videos for the songs he's worked on though)

he runs a popular vlog where he documents parts of his songwriting process, answers questions from fans, and offers little updates about how his week has been

nadia and ryan are best friends, and nadia makes tons of little cameos in ryan's vlogs and insta stories

james is also a hit singer with like a bublé or sinatra type of voice (full of charm, a smooth jazz feel)

his strict parents didn't approve of his choice to pursue a career in music (they'd only obliged him when he was a child thinking it was just a hobby), so he ended up leaving his home at sixteen to follow his dreams

ina's grandfather taught piano lessons in his later years, and a young james was one of his students

so ina and james have known each other since they were five

there is a general consensus in the group that ina's kisses are the best. they aren't very common and are always chaste (ina's ace and doesn't see the appeal in swapping saliva among other things), so the other three feel so blessed whenever she'll give them a tiny peck on the nose for good luck before an exam or on the temple after a particularly rough day. sometimes the kisses are completely out of the blue, like when ina will just turn her attention away from a movie for a few seconds to plant a little kiss on the cheek before tuning back in. those ones are their favorites; they know that they mean ina is feeling particularly affectionate and loved at that very moment and wants her partners to know that.

james constantly worries that he's not a good enough leader for the mfes. the thought of one of his snap decisions in the air leading to injuries or worse for his teammates plagues him every sleepless night. he knows that they rely on his judgment and leadership, so he works tirelessly each day to master every formation, to have a plan of action for every possible obstacle that they may face, to do whatever he can in his power to make sure that these three are kept safe. he would never forgive himself otherwise.

nadia and james are utterly hopeless in the kitchen; the former will make an unholy mess will mixing and chopping ingredients, and the latter doesn't know what spices are. thankfully, ina and ryan are pretty good at cooking, and they enjoy spending the quality time together. sometimes they'll put on a podcast or light music while making dinner, and other times they'll just talk about how their day went.

nadia likes to give her favorite people strange nicknames that only she will use. ryan goes by 'rye bread' and 'kink police,' ina has 'maple leaf' and 'dott,' and james is affectionately called 'fuckface' and 'shit wagon.'

james and ina met as freshmen in their first semester. ina grew up playing the piano, and she would sometimes occupy the grand piano in the dorm's common room whenever she was feeling overwhelmed or homesick. james loves classical music, and he was pleasantly surprised to hear the dulcet sounds when he'd walked by the common room one day. he'd stepped inside immediately to see who was playing, and he'd politely asked ina if she minded if he studied here and listened to her play. ina'd never had an audience before, but she wasn't uncomfortable with the prospect, so she'd agreed. james stayed the entire time she played and then complimented her when she'd finished. he'd asked if he could come by again, and ina had nodded with a smile. james would return whenever he was free to hear ina play, and she found herself heading to the common room more frequently than before. from there, they became quick friends, enjoying the comfort of beautiful piano music and companionship without the need for socializing.

ryan is the one who keeps an eye on the others and takes care of them.

when james has worked himself to the bone and can barely stand up straight without his knees wobbling, ryan will convince him to retire for the evening and keep a steady hand between his shoulders as they walk back to their dorm room to keep james from falling over, from falling apart.

when nadia has forgone a proper night of sleep for one too many days in a row and starts to rapidly lose her focus, ryan has to nearly yank her out of and away from the cockpit before she can attempt another round of additional flight practice, knowing that her typical recklessness in the air will become a real hazard in this state.

whenever an area becomes too noisy (shouts from every direction, explosions heard overhead, anguished screams of victims in the med wing) and ina starts to tense up and close in on herself, ryan will, with her permission, carefully take her hand in his and, if possible, lead her away to a quiet place where she can breathe easier.

he has to be strong for them. it's the thought that echoes in ryan's mind whenever he's sitting up against the bathroom floor late at night, resisting the bouts of tremors coursing through his body and willing his shaky breathing to even out. he can't help nor keep them safe if he's vulnerable like this. he can't bear to see this war break them, can't let the fear and the stress take away their hope and their smiles. he has to be strong for them.

when ryan, ina, nadia, and james all move in together, ryan ends up having to double the number of sweaters he owns because the other three end up stealing (well, except for ina because she politely asks if she can borrow) them all to wear. james will grab one of his cardigans when he's headed to campus, ina snuggles up in his warmer sweaters when she's feeling extra cold, and nadia rocks his hoodies as funky dresses. ryan's wallet isn't exactly ecstatic about the additional purchases, but he'd be a damn liar if he said he didn't love seeing them wearing his clothes.

while others are out partying it up on a friday night, ryan and nadia will bury themselves under a bunch of blankets on the couch and binge watch stuff like buzzfeed unsolved.
