what did Abraham Lincoln do that violated human rights?
Lincoln ordered several northern newspapers that criticized him be shut down, and he had city officials of Baltimore arrested. He ordered the arrest of Chief Justice Roger Taney after he ruled that Lincoln had violated the Constitution after he had illegally suspended the Writ of Habeus Corpus. Hundreds of individuals were arrested on unclear charges and tried in a military court, while civilian courts were still operating. The Supreme Court later ruled that was unconstitutional. It was a kangaroo court system set up to indefinitely jail those that spoke against him.
This is ignoring the whole invasion of states that had the right to secede, leading to the death of well over 600k people, and initially refusing to free northern slaves and slaves owned in union-occupied territory
Kept civilians in prisoner of war camps, denied food and medicine to POW’s and civilians, ordered slaves returned to their owners, exiled representatives that criticized him to Canada, ordered the Army to arrest state legislators in Kentucky and in Maryland, allowed the army to vote in states they were occupying against the laws of the local states, sent armies to clear natives off of lands where railroads were intended to go, stoped British ships which had diplomatic immunity which is one of the issues that led to the War of 1812. Was one of the first war time leaders since the Napoleonic Era that declared food and medicine a contraband of war. Routinely engaged in torture of prisoners.
You know just a few things.
Oh yeah a few other things too. He replaced cautious and defensive generals with Generals who ordered troops to burn down peoples homes and food. In the Shenandoah Valley an event known as “The burning” took place in which the German Mercenaries (which mercenaries made up about 25% of the Union forces) wrote about how appalling it was and that it violated the rules of war.
Never even mind Sherman’s war crime to the sea where he did nothing to free the prisoners in Andersonville. Sherman was actually known to be mentally unstable and cruel which is why he wasn’t put in charge until later on in the war. Sherman was known to order his cannons to shoot at houses in occupied Atlanta and aim for the ones that had people hiding in them.
Yes, slavery bad; but, by golly, that does not mean Union good.
There’s a reason some recall it as The War Of Northern Aggression.
let’s also not forget Lincoln ordered the largest mass execution in US history.
The way they portrayed Laveyan Satanism disappointed me
This. I expected more from AHS. They also didn't miss the chance to use the "satanists" to push super-leftist ideas. 😔 I definitely have some gripes with this season, but I was extremely happy to see the coven again.
AHS Apocalypse is finally on netflix. Time to binge.
Finally felt up to doing some decent photos. My first completed diorama. I dont have any personal attachment to the show, so I'm sure this is somehow inaccurate, but I like it and I enjoyed the process of creating it.
Any and all feedback is appreciated. Stay tuned for more models, dioramas, and unsolicited opinions.
Slow and steady..
Mapping U.S. State and Canadian Province data. Part 7: Unionization.
Those are rookie numbers! Get them up!
How are we letting the Canadians beat us?
Felt like a good day for a creative challenge, so I started a junkbuild. I'm probably going to end up using leg pieces from an action figure, but so far it is totally made from junk. Definitely needs a lot of work still. Stay tuned to find out if I will ever get around to it.
Build, build
And modify, modify.
My first diorama is complete
In the final stages...
We in this bitch
More work on my first diorama. The plaster on the base is hardening and the mobile suits are all but complete.
Please pardon the clutter.
Working on my gundam diorama again. About time I got back to it.
What leftists fear isn’t an ~imperfect candidate~
What leftists fear is a democrat will take the reigns from Trump, continue on the same path only with better PR, and suddenly half the angry voices we thought were backing us up have suddenly disappeared.
this happening with bush -> obama is literally what pushed me to becoming a communist.
i was 11 when 9/11 happened and i came of age watching the military rip iraq to pieces while bush expanded the already robust state surveillance apparatus. drone strikes and extraordinary renditions. guantanamo bay and abu ghraib. hundreds of thousands of murdered civilians. this was the news that set the backdrop of my teen years. cries of bush being a fascist were regular. what was clear was that he was evil for all these things.
i was 18 when the 2008 elections rolled around - my first time voting in a presidential election. obama had campaigned on “hope and change” and i was electrified. except nothing changed. in fact, it got a lot worse. increased drone strikes, a greater presence in afghanistan, guantanamo bay is still open, honduras was nearly destroyed, 2 million people were deported or put in concentration camps, the list goes on.
and yet all the voices that called for bush to be tried for war crimes were silent for obama. it was kind of a shock, and i realized that i couldn’t actually trust the faculties of the people around me as much as i thought. and even when you show people all the proof that obama was as bad as bush, if not worse, they deny it or excuse it. it’s equal parts infuriating, disheartening, and terrifying.
This adequately describes my everyday mood
