The Malfoy line has a couple of differing curses.

1. Being able to produce only one son in a lifetime (because of something that happened hundreds of years ago) to prevent any bastards. Draco having a kid with Hermione somehow broke that because his blood disowned him for procreating with someone of Muggle decent—this one was placed by a scorned Malfoy wife.

2. The kids having the signature Malfoy hair and eyes as to know if the wives have bedded another man—done by some Malfoy patriarch along the beginning of the branch.

EMBEDDED ART!!! honestly this is the fic that made me want to learn how to bind which is so serious and if you haven't read this yet you need to.

hi! so i read manacled in december and it was SO GOOD. i just saw your post about the order in which draco and hermione die and i was wondering if you could expand on that? like if h died first how was draco after? i mean he did so much to keep her alive and it hurts me to know that he’s left alone

I go around in circles to be honest. Like I know that Hermione died first, and it was very peacefully, in her sleep with Draco and they both knew that she was fading. So they'd said their goodbyes and done all those last things. But, after that, I go back and forth about how long Draco would have lingered, because there’s a part of me that thinks that his is a heart that would only beat a split-second longer than Hermione’s. That as soon as he knew she was gone, that would be it for him.

But then there’s another part of me that feels like Draco would want to be the one who told Aurore that Hermione had died. I think Aurore would know that Draco was not going to be around once he lost Hermione. But I think he would have said goodbye to her.

As to the specifics, I’ve always tended to think that if he ever really wanted to die, he simply would. Its kind of a sad twist on Hermione’s wish in the pre-flashback chapters about being able to die by simply wishing it fervently enough, I tend to think that because of the runes Draco could do that, and that once he didn’t have Hermione anymore, he would.

I think once her parents died she might have tried. But I don’t think it was a story that the Wizarding world was really willing to understand.
