âYou have to start a blog.â she said.
I would prefer to stab myself in the eyeball, then to honor this request by my writing coach. It was less a request, and more a your dumb if you donât statement. âGood luck getting published if you donât start getting your work out there.â The reality these days for a beginning author is pretty bleak, even with all these great new publishing options. Thereâs Print-on-Demand publishing, Indie, Vanity, Hybrid, and Traditional. I refuse to entertain anything, but Traditional Publishing, any idiot can throw up some cash and go the other routes. Years ago the traditional publishing houses did the work for you, you handed over your manuscript and they would give you an editor to polish it up, and off you go, not these days. These dayâs you better have other published work out there, a brand with a cult following, and a completely polished manuscript ready for the book shelves. Your publisher will then strip your precious baby of itâs title, rename it something you hate, but you better pretend to like it, matter of fact you better love that stupid fuckin title, and the ugly cover their focus group say will work best for your book. Right about now Iâm throwing all my dignity out the window to become the biggest yes woman I know.  I wouldnât want to be labeled difficult, it could cost me my career, that hasnât even started yet.
