Nola Chronicles
Burger fest took place this weekend in Nola and coincided with Bre's birthday so we HAD to take part. We decided to bring in her day with bottles of wine and blunts because why not. Saturday we filled the corkicles and hit i10. Everything we tried was delicious and we were happy to have made it. Downside we wished it had been held on Sunday also because we were too stuffed to keep trying. We stayed until it ended and I happened to have noticed one of our favorite Nola artists was touching up a mural of his so I shot him a text to drop his location š
You should know that we went to the city with no plan further than trying these burgers so to see that he was merely 9 mins away was perfect so we pulled up on New Orleans own Courtney Buckley better known as @ CeauxArtwork. We stood around watching him work his magic as we pulled on our pre rolled and I discussed Game of Thrones with some of his comrades that were also there.
Bre had booked a room at some point through the evening so we went to check in, drop our handy heaux bags, then we started our journey through downtown Nola to search from my Saint Heron brotherin for a night of Nola bar drinking. Unfortunately, we didn't get as wasted as we had hopped so we got back to the room and a friend of mine that had come down to meet us but never did showed up with a bottle of wine, we ordered room service then finished the night off hot boxing until nearly 5am.
At some point between checking in and hitting the streets we stopped by the restaurant Borgne at sat at the bar and enjoyed bites and cocktails. A middle aged Caucasian couple sat and we struck up convo that led to the wife recommending us a brunch spot for Sunday. So we headed down to Elizabeth's and immediately upon arrival we knew it was an authentic Nola spot we would love. We walked in and the hostess offered us to wait upstairs at the bar for our table. The vibe at the bar was perfect. Bounce music played while a predominantly white diners brunched and babbled. The menu options were amaizing but I must admit my Grillades & Grits were not all that. (I will say I got it to compare to that of my first and fav Grits & Grillades from olive or twist)
Nonetheless, I'll be back. Joe at the bar was a pleasure and like I said the vibe in the spot was great and there were so many things I would love to try on the menu. Looking forward to heading back. Coincidentally Elizabeth's sat just across from Crescent Park where we had spent the afternoon before. The burger fest was in a contained area so after brunch we decided to head over to the park and explore some of the scenery from this side of the park. It was definitely a treat all that we stumbled upon out there.
After strolling the Crescent Park with full bellies we finally decided that our time in Nola had come to an end and we headed back to the BR but not before driving back down Saint Claude, again not intentional we were just in the area again, and had a chance to view Ceaux's mural in the daylight.
Another Sunday, and Saturday, well spent down in the city.
Solo On SNL
On Monday evening I received an invite to NOLA to take in a secret practice show by Solange. She would be having anĀ āUN-DRESSED rehearsalā for her upcoming āSaturday Night Liveā performance. This event was closed to the public and only a select fewĀ āoutsidersā were invited and I was lucky enough to be one. As Iāve mentioned before, IĀ truly enjoy seeing and experiencing an artists point of view directly from them. So being able to see and hear such a special thing was quite enjoyable. As soon I walked into the venue I spotted Raphael Saadiq! TALK ABOUT LEGENDARY! Not to mention he was definitely one of my first crushes!!! Overall it was an amazing experience to be apart of and I am glad to have been there. A great Tuesday evening was had. Ā Ā
How did I end up here?
Some how I spent a lot of time over the past week in NOLA. On Sunday some friends and I went out to join the second line. If you have never experienced a true New Orleans second line I highly recommend you do so. This was only second time but I've enjoyed it each time and I look forward to more. Monday, I had a meeting of sorts with some casting directors I met on Sunday. It was in an area I had recently passed thru in NOLA so I was glad to explore it a little making for an awesome Monday afternoon. Monday evening i received an email inviting me to Solangeās rehearsal for her upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live. Talk about a good Monday.

NOLA filled wknd
I had an amazing weekend! It started out on Friday night. I attended the Lilā Wayne concert at the venue formerly known as The Baton Rouge River Center, now The Raising Canes . This was my third time seeing him this year alone so I won't comment on the show. I partially blame the crowd and the energy they did or didn't give off. Nonetheless, he is my favorite rapper to watch perform, my tickets were comp soooo not a bad Friday night.Ā
Saturday I spent my afternoon in NOLA. I attended an artist talk hosted by Saint Heron for Lorna C. Williams moderated by Gia Hamilton. Arrived with just enough time to view and take in the pieces then get straight to the talk. I absolutely LOVE to be able to have a direct view of any type of artists thought process. I enjoyed the event and thought it was quite informative. Next, I headed over to Axiom Art Gallery to pick up some prints a friend had ordered from possibly my favorite artist, Ceaux. Luckily for me his Elemental series was still up from his solo show three weeks ago and I was able to view it! I have to say it was indeed a Saturday well spent!
Wrapped my weekend up in NOLA (back there yet again!), with some of my best girlfriends as we participated in the Purple Stride, a 5K run for Pancreatic Cancer. #TeamGeraldForeverĀ
