Honestly I haven’t been feeling my art lately, so I haven’t rly been drawing much either. It just feels like my drawings are.. idk a lil cold? unstable? not whole? idk a lot of weird feels. Like its not that i think they are all that bad, just missing something but i’m not sure what. Its a funny thing honestly, like there r artists that i like whose drawings aren’t like super skilled or perfect, but they have this sense of wholeness in them, like even if its not absolutely anatomically accurate or perfectly drawn it just has this feeling about them that’s just right idk.. and i’m not really feeling that from my drawings, i never rly did but it stared really bothering me recently, and i haven’t been seeing any progress. So i complained to my best friend and she was rly trying to help me and cheer me up and we really spent a lot of time talking about it, and eventually we came up with the peach analogy. What this analogy means is something along the lines of: ur art is like growing a peach, it starts as a pretty flower, an innocent fascination as a kid, and then it starts developing and growing the more u draw and have fun drawing, but u have to take good care of it and be persistent, and like a peach at first ur art is going to be all green and sour but if ur diligent u can grow it further and that growth is different for everyone, and so the point i’m at is, that my peach is still green with a lil bit of that peachy blush, but i bit into it expecting it to be sweet but it was really sour and i got disapointed so i stopped growing it and it’s not developing, but i shouldn’t forget that if i want my peach to be sweet i need to take care of it everyday and i shouldn’t forget why i even started growing it. Because it was fun. And so i decided to draw my peach and honestly this was really fun to draw and i actually kinda like this one. After i drew this thing i drew a bunch one day and my style suddenly improved 8"D I realized i’m one of those artists that have really long periods of stagnation with sudden improvement. Ofc my drawings still aren’t that nice ripe peach but i have a little more hope that i’ll get there someday, that someday i wont feel so scared and stiff to draw and just relax and let it flow. I guess the peach is more an analogy for my okayness and freedom with my art, like once i’m just relaxed and free to just play around, my peach will be sweet. So to any other artist out there who have the same problem as me, let’s not give up. Yeah, it is painful, but we all started doing this because at some point it was really fun, so let’s not stop and let’s find that fun again.
