I would imagine if a girl wants a guy thatâs going to listen really well, but at the same time take charge, you know, Bucky Barnes is a mixture of both

Live Again || Steve + Bucky || Post CA: TWS
He knew him.      The Soldier knew the man, but more importantly, the man knew the Soldier.        The Soldier did not know himself.
There was an enduring sense of loss radiating from his chest; a knowledge that the life he led was not his own. One wordââpresumably, a name. Bucky. Was that who he was? Was he Bucky? Was he really the man's friend?
He didn't know, but he knew one person who did. The man.
He kept his distance, kept his eyes on him, watching to see if there was a security detail, waiting to find a time that would be good, if one existed. He felt flashes, sometimes, of a life that once might have been his. In a world that no longer looked like this one. Fewer people, duller buildings, smaller cities. Once, he flashed back to Coney Island. Another time, he flashed back to a war. Most of the time, he woke up confused why he was under a bridge or a tree and not at home, but his memories of home vanished like a dream.
The museum offered some information; the man's name was Steve, and a photograph explained why his flashes of memories portrayed him shorter, skinnier. A memorial displayed with the Soldier's picture called him James Buchanan Barnes, the way the man had. Apparently a war hero, he had died almost seventy years earlier.
He didn't remember any of this.    He remembered killing.
He had questions, and the man had answers, but... Would he be welcome? Would he be seen as a threat or a target?

The Soldier was still learning about himself, who he really was, this Bucky person. He remembered a son from the Room. A fact that Hydra had kept from him but was coming back to him same as the rest. He stopped in front of the man in question. â Who said I would want you to go back? â
Shane blinked in confusion, still keeping a healthy distance. Â The boy didnât even draw a weapon yet because - really - what fucking chance did he have? Â Worst case, he used his own knife to fuck up his body so much they couldnât bring him back. Â âYou carry out missions for them.â He said evenly.
Hands buried in the pockets of a jacket that didn't quite seem to fit him just right the Soldier glanced away. â I think those days are over. I don't think... â I don't think he would want that. He. He meant himself. â I don't want that. â
"Iâm not going back."

Natasha hates it when the men in her life make decisions for her. Even when the decision is made out of love and with the best of intentions. Sheâs a grown woman and nearly a century old.Â
Though, she loves being dominated. But, thatâs a different matter altogether.Â
[[Honestly, this right here is why I have such a big problem with WS14. Because if anybody knows that Natasha wouldn't want someone to make decisions for her--if anybody knows that it's not cool for anyone to make decisions for anyone else--it's Bucky. The man went through the same Red Room shit Natasha did, and he has parts of his own memory missing. Plus, he uses the "she's had her head messed with enough" excuse, but for God's sake, Bucky should have realized that nothing was messing with her head more than having no memories of him. It would be messing with her head to put those back about as much as it's messing with a car to refuel the tank.
And still he pulls this shit. It's so out of character for him, in my opinion, but on top of that--even if we pull the card that he was in a state of emotional shock or distress or that he wasn't thinking clearly--look at the three other men in the room.
Logan, Steve, and Clint all know Natasha pretty damn well too. They know Bucky is the idiot Natasha always calls him and that his decisions--while meant well--do not always end well. At least one of those three guys would've been like "Natasha wouldn't want this" for a million reason" and gone and done something about it.
And that's why the end of Widow Hunt is terribly out of character for all of the men in this panel.
And don't get me started on how out of character Widow Hunt was for the Widow herself. Just don't do it.]]

Natasha handed him a brightly wrapped box, smirking. âHappy birthday.â
He grinned when he saw it, shaking his head a little. âIt's perfect. Thank you.â
Happy Birthday! || Bucky + Steve
"Geez, Iâm big but Iâm not hide a herd of people behind me big." Steve joked as he walked in and set his backpack down by the couch. "Okay no cake, but I did get us some cannolis. I figured youâd be more forgiving about that then a cake." He grinned and gingerly pulled the white bakery box out to set it on the table on his way to the kitchen.Â
He nabbed a beer and took the cap off with his hand, taking a sip. Steve couldnât help the soft sardonic chuckle when he realized it was a bottle opener needed type bottle. Still not used to the serum and your own strength you fool? âI donât see the point in drinking alcohol normally, but you gotta admit it does make the pizza taste better,â he started, enjoying the simply idea of being able to talk to Bucky, even if it was stupid commentary about how pizza tasted different with beer.
"Whatâs the movie for tonight? Have we finished with the big names from the 80âs yet? I do wanna see Die Hard though." He shrugged. "If youâre cool with it." Steve offered and plunked down next to his best friend and kicked his feet up, content for the night.
Bucky snorted at Steve as he walked in, taking a drink of his beer. âThe tech they got nowadays, I donât know what Stark is capable of fitting in your backpack. For all I know, you got half the Avengers in there.â He settled back into the couch, a plate of pizza on his lap, and frowned at the cannolis.
âSee? This is exactly the kindâa shit I was talking about,â he said, left arm out and open and mirroring his sentence in gesture. âWhatever. Birthday cannolis. Iâll get over it.â He twirled the remote in his right hand before tapping it against his chin.
Then he shrugged. âDunno,â he said. âYou seen E.T. yet? Stark wonât shut up about it. I kinda wanna watch it and hate it just to get on his nerves, yâknow?â
"Mmm no tech like that that Iâm aware of." Steve muttered, a touch of wry amusement in his tone. He held his hands up in mock surrender. "Alright, alright! Birthday cannolis are bad. Iâll remember that. Yeesh. I just brought the cannolis, no candles!" He assured and laughed a little, his eyes crinkling and smile open and honest. He glanced at Bucky for a long moment, obviously processing something important.
Steve burst into laughter a moment later. âYou thought I had the Avengers in a backpack.â Steve chuckled, wheezing softly as he started laughing really hard. âBucky you are old! Yeah, Iâm down for the movie and hating it if it would piss Stark off.â Steve smirked to himself. Â
Bucky laughed a little, shaking his head and selecting E.T. on the screen. âYeah, yeah, laugh it up, punk,â he said then fell into a rackety and old-sounding voice. âShow's on now, and my bedtime's in an hour, so I'd like ta at least get through the first scene.â His joke was made entirely at his own expense, but if Captain America himself was gonna make jokes about the boy wonder being old, Bucky was gonna play along.
The movie was alright. The alien-dude was a little scary, and there were certain scenes that left Bucky thinking This movie was made for kids? In the end, Bucky saw the appeal, but it wasn't his cup of tea. Excellent ammo to use on Stark. And it got him through a couple of beers and about half the pizza, so over allââa birthday well-spent and certainly not wasted.
Happy Birthday! || Bucky + Steve
Bucky looked through the video screen that let him see who was trying to gain access to his apartment and smirked when he saw it was Steve. Pizza was already thereââbeers chilled and ready for drinking. Eighty-nine years old. He couldnât believe it. Mostly because stasis had kept him young most of his middle years, and the Infinity Forumla helped slow down the last few.
âHang on, ya punk,â he said back. âIâm doinâ a quick cake check. No surprise parties or anyâa that shit, right?â He laughed before buzzing him anyway, sure that Steve wouldnât be doing it anyway. As soon as he was in the room, Bucky pointed at the cardboard on the counter. âPizzaâs still warm. Beerâs in the fridge. Make yourself at home.â

Happy Birthday! || Bucky + Steve
Steve grinned slightly as he swung his leg over his bike, nabbing the backpack that had Buckyâs gift and the cannollis he bought for them for the occasion in it. It was a little strange, carrying a belt studded with throwing knives. Well strange for everyone else. He just knew that Bucky was going to be a little pissed that he was turning their pizza, beer and movie catch up night into a birthday thing.
But he couldnât help it! He hadnât had a birthday with Bucky in⊠well nearly an entire century. And he had to miss the last birthday. Missing this one was not an option.Â
He buzzed Buckyâs apartment and waited to be let into the building. âCome on, ya jerk, lemme in already.â He snarked through the intercom.Â
