That is the link to the powerpoint presentation of what we were going to do for the pitch on Monday. We ended up shortening quite a bit of it to a smaller presentation for the pitch so that we could have enough time to talk about our idea and still showcase our work. The link also includes the final animatic video.

RESEARCH + STORY

This is the accumulation of all the research, drawings and script writing that we did to get to the final animatic that we have done. We tried to hang it up in an organised way so that the order of how we did things would be easy to follow for anyone walking by.

I added a little touch to the end where i connected a lot of the pins via a string. They all connected back to the original first draft of the storyboard and it was connected to all the research and sketches we did for the specific panels. I really liked the effect it gave, almost like an ongoin investigation you would see in police shows and it also helped with understanding our project in case it wasn't as clear to some people where we were getting certain inspiration for some of the panels in the first draft.

FINAL DRAFT STORYBOARD

This is the final draft of the storyboard that we have to put into an animatic and the same one we will use when we give our pitch. We decided that a lot of it wouldn't have a lot of color, except for more at the start, we wanted the color to fade away after the death of Spoon. Almost to show whats happening inside Dish's mind and how dark and bleak the world looks like now that his son is dead. With little splashes of color to be able to differentiate between aspects like the different military bases and their respective politicians. We did however want to keep the same aesthetic as "Over the Gardenwall", so a lot of the character designs and animals stuck to that aesthetic.

FASHION

So Summer was in charge of any fashion related designs. Despite James having drawn some clothes on the characters it was definitley a cool comparison between the two styles. There was more details in these designs here and we thought that they suited the style better than the ones James had put up. We agreed that the clothes for Dish and Spoon were better but to make Spoons clothes a bit baggier to show that they are hand-me-downs.

The suits look unreal with each politician having a pin representing their nation and including that touch of color for only the shirt was the pop of color we were aiming for, this was to keep most of it in black and white as planned with splashes of color.

LANDSCAPE STUDIES

I was in charge of creating a few of the landscapes that we were gonna use in the backgrounds in some of the final panels of our storyboard.

I wanted to try replicate the style that we chose, "Over the Gardenwall", using promarkers and some posca markers, I wanted to try keep that simple color aesthetic that they use in the show. The military base that I designed was based off of the old 1800's military bases they used in USA. With a combination of both tents and some wooden shacks in the middle of the base. The bottom was a replicate of one of the scenes in "Over the Gardenwall". I wanted to replicate the exact design they used in the scene because it helped me get a stronger understanding of the aesthetic in the show.

This is the research that i had done in order to try replicate those military bases. Although its a lot less colorful in these photos, our chosen aesthetic had to dominate this fact because in the end that aesthetic is what will make it more appealing to watch.

The black and white photos on the top helped with my drawing of the background used in the scene where Dish and Spoon are running through the town away from all the shootings and bombings.

CHARACTER DESIGNS

So James was in charge of the character designs. He created the 3 politicians on the right, we agreed that they would wear similar uniforms in order to show their equal evilness. The first 2 characters are both Dish, before and after he loses his son and then beside him is Spoon who looks like he is wearing baggy clothing to show they are hand-me-downs from his dad.

James also included the simplistic banners to be able to differentiate between the 3 nations, the cow, cat and dog. Each with their own respective colors.

As per our agreed Aesthetic: "Over the Gardenwall", James did have to create the characters in the same style used in that tv show and honestly he got them really accurate.

This is the link for some of the research i found for our project to help us with references to some of the designs we would do later on for the final draft. All the research had to come from landscapes, architecture, apparel and weapons used in the 1800's.

MOOD BOARD

One of the mood boards i created to help the team with any of the designs they were going to do that were based off of this chosen aesthetic.

I got the idea when another group was using an app on their phone to do it. I had no idea how to split up the colors or even select the color used in the scene so thankfully they helped me out with that. Honestly a very big help for reference considering that a lot of our work was a similar color to the backgrounds used and even the clothes chosen.

AESTHETIC

OVER THE GARDENWALL

This was our chosen aesthetic, recomended by Summer. I have never seen this Tv show before but there were a lot of good points made as to why it should be our aesthetic.

The contrast of the clothing between the main 2 characters and the wealthier characters is a good example of the difference between Dish/Spoon and the 3 politicians.

The Clothing is very victorian era-esque which plays really well into our given time period, the 1800's. Given that the victorian time period was between 1820-1914.

The simplistic animation used in the show works well for the age demographic that we were aiming for. ( 12 yrs old +)

The landscapes were exactly what we were looking for, the old buildings on farmlands and no tecnhology, old style farms manned and in some scenes even very mysterious and melancholic.

CHOSEN STORYBOARD - ROUGH DRAFT

This is a combination of all 3 of our storyboards together. This was a lot of fun, seeing how all 3 of us interperated the same script differently and even with some similar panels, a lot of them had differnet 'camera' angles and shots.

At this point in our project it was clear just how important the teamwork was. So far the story we picked was my story, the script we chose was Summers and the storyboard panels were mainly James's. Even tho it was all individual works chosen at different stages, we were constantly throwing out our ideas and the story was slowly evolving and changing.

My favorite panel is when the Dish knocks out an armed officer to steal his uniform because the story thus far has been dark and melancholic. The comical aspect of knocking the guard out and dragging him into the bush was a bit of a comedic relief in the story to try take away from that dark theme.

CHOSEN SCRIPT

So after further development this was the chosen script which was a combination of all 3 of our draft scripts. My skills in script writing are not the best so the most of the script was Summer's ideas with a good few of our own ideas from our scripts being put in to her one. Right from the start, it was clear that if this hadn't been a group project, it would've been a lot more difficult.

The story we were aiming for was a shortstory that shows the perspective of an innocent civilian caught up in a war between 3 nations. The reason its from the perspective of the innocent lives is because a lot of the media nowdays focuses on the politicians, governments and people in power when it comes to war. Rarely ever focusing on the civilians other than talking about how many have died, are injured or missing. We wanted our story to spread more of an awareness of these peoples lives and how the greed of people in power affect these people. The goal was for it to be an eye opener for young teens and upwards. Mainly focusing on this age group because they don't get to see much of the news and even if they do, a lot don't know the real pain and suffering that these people are in.

CHOSEN STORY

Straight from the start we were at a disadvantage, I was absent for the first 2 days because i was sick but fortunately on the following Monday I was able to talk to our team to be able to get a head start for what our story was going to be about.

We were given the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle", the genre is War and it is set in the 1800's. The first draft of my story came up to 3 sentences. I wasn't able to think up a story of anykind with the nursery rhyme given. I was doing a lot of research into the meaning behind the nursery rhyme and even some dark meanings behind it, so that i could link it to the genre of war.

I found out that I was being to literal with the nursery rhyme and then decided to go about it in a metaphorical way.

I created this story by just typing and putting down what came to my mind first with what the given topics were. I was really happy with the result and my one ended up being the one that was chosen in the end.

NEW BRIEF

A group project where we are given a nursery rhyme, genre and time period and we have to create a story, script and storyboard of what we create based on the given factors. I've worked in teams a lot before whether its work related or a sports team but I haven't ever worked in a team for an art project, more specifically for an animation.

The Goal is to create a 3 minuite animatic with research and sketches involved to then later pitch this idea to our tutors as if we are pitching to directors that would fund our idea.

My group is: Myself, Summer and James.

This is the final animation for the Mini-Me with the voice over and the background added. Unfortunately I was sick the day of recording our voice overs for the animation however with a little help from @k00297627 , I was able to record my voice over on Premier Pro and then add it to the animation. I had to fix a few things so that it was loud enough and so that the voice over was on time with the animation. After tedious multiple attempts, I managed to get it right.

MINI ME PART 2

After the painting was dry I took my character and all the phenomes of the mouths to the photography room to be photographed on a green background. The green background was there for later when we would edit the photos using Adobe Photoshop to get rid of all the green and be left with a PNG of our photos without a background.

Allowing us to transfer the photos over to Adobe Animate and start animating the movement of the mouth. The only obstacle that I knew i would have to overcome later is that the moustache would have to be above the mouth and the beard had to be under. I have an idea of using 3 seperate layers to be able to fix this problems but I won't know if it will work until i start editing.

BACKGROUND SKETCHES

So here we were to do the final design of the background that we waned to use for the animation. The first one I did turned out ok but i didn't really like the refernce photo I was using while sketching it so once i got a lot of the main details and some shading in the piece, I just stopped and moved on to the second piece.

The second piece was way better, having a lot more detail i could work with and a lot of overlapping objects and people that really helped bring it all together. I thought with so many things overlapping over each other that it would turn out quite messy but It turns out that it was the reason why it looked so good. Keeping Oliver Kruger in mind still, i had colored some areas in with oil pastels and left some details out. In most of Krugers character designs he usually has some sort of color on them however for mine i didn't want any of the focus on the character and more so on the background and midground. That's where all the real work and perspective was happening so thats why i focused on those more.
