Final Poster

This is my final Poster, I am so glad that I got it finished, it took a while as I was really struggling with the design and the arrangements of it, so finally I'm done.

My concept of Anthropocene is world hunger. In this poster you will see a coffee cup spilling the world out of it, I wanted to bring attention to the amount of food that is wasted each year. Globally, 1.3 billion tonnes of food produced is wasted or lost each year, that's 30% of food produced worldwide. I also put in the date for World food day on the 16th of October.The aim of the day is to promote global awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger, and to highlight the need to ensure healthy diets for all.

I enjoyed the process of this project, I liked all the different activities we did to get to know each others personalities and design style. The workshops helped to create the thumbnails and make my design.

Anyway I'm happy with the final product and I'm glad to be done with it.

I tried all of theses different typefaces and in the end I decided to go with Quicksand. I think it suited the poster the best out of them all.

Graphic Design Week 5

These are the last round of posters that I made and I'm pretty happy with them. I fixed the background to make it simpler as to not distract from the central message.

Two of them have the same template but I wanted to see the same poster with a different typography and placement of the typography. I wasn't sure if I wanted to put it outside or inside the circle, I eventually went with the first poster but I used the typography form the second poster, a mixture of the two.

Graphic Design Week 5

I didn't like the posters that I made before easter so I decided to remake them. I fear I was trying to have a cafe theme that doesn't really work out for this theme as it doesn't display the message I'm trying to convey.

My concept of Anthropocene is world hunger, the background seems to be too much taking the attention away from the main part of the cup and the world,so I'll probably make more with a simpler background.

I also don't think the typography is right for the poster so I'll try out some new ones and see from there.

Graphic Design Week 4

I did a series of poster tests using the same template and made different variations of the poster. Now that I'm looking back on this I don't like them as I don't think they really stand out so I want to change that next week. The only one that I like a bit is the yellow poster on the right, I was running on basically no sleep the whole week as I was sick so I think that's why they are soo bad. 😬 My best bet is to use the poster that I like and change some details about it for my final poster.

Jamie Ardor

Jamie Ardor is a Senior Graphic Designer, artist, and multimedia creative. Having progressed from a Fine Art background into an industrial design level of Visual Communication, he strives to create thought-provoking, unique outcomes to stretch the boundaries of art and design into the everyday lives of society. His other passions, such as music and a dedication to solving the climate crisis, are all inspirations for his work and thought processes, driven by the simple ideology of helping make this world a better place.

He made an animation for Worlds Oceans Day which follows a shoal of fish who become increasingly alarmed as they turn into plastic. The message being this is about the the amount of microplastics that are in the sea that fish are swallowing so the fish are becoming plastic.

I really like his works as he highlights the different aspects that are causing climate change like the oil rigs, micro plastics etc. His devotion to spread awareness for climate change is really admirable and I would like to do that with my poster.

Minami Hirayama

Minami Hirayama is a visual communication designer / environmental activist. She came originally from Japan, currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark.

She is a Master student of Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation, Copenhagen.

I really like her use of colours she has a real grasp of the colour wheel that I admire. She works to bring attention to climate change and asks the question what can graphic designers do in the climate crisis.

Olafur Eliasson

Olafur Eliasson is an Icelandic–Danish artist known for sculptured and large-scaled installation art employing elemental materials such as light, water, and air temperature to enhance the viewer's experience. In 1995, Olafur established Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin, a laboratory for spatial research.

He brought 30 icebergs from a Greenland fjord to London in order to raise awareness about the urgency of climate change. Eliasson salvaged the ice blocks from the ocean after global warming caused them to detach from one of the world’s largest ice sheets. In London, visitors can interact with them—touching them, sliding across them—as they melt in real time.

I like this work as he shows the effect of global warming on the world that the ice caps are melting and these chunks have detached giving us a visual image of what's happening making us reflect on our actions.

Graphic Design Week 3

We did a workshop with the typography using the wooden printing blocks and different materials and we had to use the word Anthropocene. I really liked the thumbnail that I did with the earth in the plastic bag so I used an actual plastic bag and painted on it and used it as texture for the background.

Typography Workshop

We had a presentation in the morning and then we did a little tour around the second year workshop where they were doing alot of activities based on typography and we were aloud to interact with the activities aswell.

Then we all played a game where we were given 3 cards with different typefaces and on the back were the personalities of that typeface. We had to choose one that we would date or be friends with and read the back of the cards to the class.

On a table there was a lot of books on typography we could look through and choose one we liked and then print it and put them on the wall.

This was the one that I choose.

Graphic Design Week 2

For this week we were given the Xyz brief where we were all given a different image and from that image we had to create a poster incorporating some element from it.

This was the image I was given, just by seeing this I was reminded about the "Handle with Care" sticker that you would see on fragile packages so I knew that what I was going to base it on.

I made 4 thumbnails with this in mind in my sketchbook and then I refined the 4 thumbnails again in black and white and later on I will create a poster from it.

Theses are the thumbnails in black and white.

Using Adobe illustrater in the afternoon and made 2 posters from 2 of the thumbnails that were picked. At first there was a little tutorial and then we were let do our own posters only in black and white. I enjoyed doing this at first I forgot all the little short cuts so it took longer but then it got used to it and I was much faster.

Graphic Design Week 2

We made a mind map with the word Anthropocene in the middle to narrow down the different aspects of anthropocene and highlight a few words and turn the literal translation of the word into a thumbnail.

These are just basic simple designs and later on I will develop more on the thumbnails.

After we had to present these to the class and get their opinions on it.

Later on the xyz brief was given to us. We had a to use the picture that was given to us and make different designs with it and the finalize a design for a poster.

Graphic Design Week 1 : Research

I did some research during the weekend to really understand the word Anthropocene and to help me get started.

Anthropocene is the period of time where human activity has been the most dominant influence on climate change and the environment.

Anthropocene in design is to minimize the environmental impact, either by creating designs with recyclable packaging materials or by using digital tools to finalize their images and branding materials.

Is also started to make some thumbnails and drew some ideas I had for the poster. I was really interested by the idea of using plastic bags for my poster so I drew a variety of them.
