Animation Discipline Start!
Hey everyone I got into the animation discipline which was my first choice I'm really happy about it but I'm also wrecked, it's been such a long week and I only got around to posting now.
It's been so hectic and I'm worried about falling behind since the amount of travel I have to do for therapy (10 hours) and the fact that this week specifically I got stranded away from my accommodation due to train delays, it really messed up my whole routine and ability to make it for the rest of the week the way I wanted to unfortunately, and I'm worried of it happening every other week for the rest of the year as there's no other easier options to continue therapy at the moment, so I really hope I can take care of myself and college properly even with these new obstacles I'm facing!
With that out of the way, let's get into what I hope to do for this discipline and the research I had accumulated for inspiration and such!! More posts will be happening for my work and research too after this one! Considering that when I first looked at the brief there was mentions of the theme being nursery rhymes, so what I personally did in my own time was look at my childhood nursery rhyme I grew up with as an italian child!
This nursery rhyme is a classic italian nursery rhyme, used for helping children go to sleep, and it goes over in simple of "who's going to help my child go to sleep, who should I give my child to get them to sleep", the simple song mentions the Italian Christmas witch, a black ox and a white wolf, who are candidates of taking care of the child to help them go to sleep, I think to me that gives me lots of inspiration and reminders of classic stories I had grown up reading as a child too.
On the first day we also wrote down our favourite animated movies and series, and I want to also include them in this post too as they're things that have really shaped who I am and my artistry, there's so many works though in general that fit that category but these two are what I had decided on highlighting for myself!
Starting with the movie:
Lilo & Stitch
I doubt it needs any introduction so I'll just go ahead and say, this movie truly shaped me and brought me comfort, it still does, I see myself in both Lilo and Stitch, I relate heavily to the struggle of being abandoned, alone, living in a struggling family with little supports, growing up almost like an only child with just another family member most of my life similar to Lilo, and going through being an outcast weird kid like she was, everything about it I relate to heavily and it is why it bring me so much comfort, plus the animation is truly wonderful and I just genuinely love the style!!
Next is:
Bojack Horseman
I also doubt this needs as much of an introduction too, plus being a series I wouldn't want to talk too much about it due to it's length as well to avoid too many spoilers for those who haven't seen it, and honestly, I absolutely don't think I'm like Bojack at all, but his and a lot of other characters in the show, especially Diane as well, I genuinely heavily relate to and feel my childhood was very similar to a lot of the struggling cast too, it's an incredibly important show to me that's really taught me a lot about the kind of person I want to be and made me feel there was so much to unpack to become a better person too, and the animation style despite being often simple it's also not afraid to be experimental at all and I just admire it so much.
