“Where are you off to?” Kaerwynn asked, leaning against a wall with his arms crossed as his brother Veirryn passed by, with a bag packed and slung over his shoulder. Veirryn gave a sigh, turning slowly to face his brother.
“Face it Kaer, I just can’t make a living here. I know Zinn has been watching over us since Mom passed away but the best I’ll be is either a test subject or a laborer here in Metrica.”
“That’s not it.” Kaerwynn stated as he stood up and approached his brother, giving him a good punch to his chest, causing Veirryn to stumble back a few steps.
“You were just going to leave? Without saying goodbye?! Do you not realize that you are the only known family I have left?!”
Veirryn clutched where he was hit, with a small groan taking several breaths to calm himself down. “I was going to-”
“Going to? When? A week, a month, a year? Ten years? Don’t you understand that I would already know that you have left by then?” Kaerwynn rubbed his temples fervently.
“I WAS GOING TO TELL YOU BUT I KNEW YOU WOULD WANT TO COME WITH!”
Kaerwynn blinked and suddenly grew quiet, his brother sighed and sat down by the nearby bench.
“Kaer, you’re good at this stuff. Zinn says you’re a prodigy, even other Asura are astounded by your understanding and rigor of this, even for a human. This is the happiest I’ve seen you since Mom passed away...As long as I’m here, you’ll hold yourself back so that we can still be together, and I know you have much more to accomplish than just being Zinn’s assistant.”
Veirryn closed his eyes and sighed, Kaerwynn sat down next to his brother, still conflicted over the whole thing, his gaze still refusing to meet Veirryn’s.
“What about you? Where will you go? What kind of work will you do?”
Veirryn rubbed the back of his neck, giving an awkward smile. “I’m not sure. I could try being a mercenary. I could also try being a scholar in the Priory, ancient history and heroes always interested me...”
Kaerwynn sighed and managed to chuckle a bit, “You were always one to look to the past for answers, I’m surprised you even thought up to ways to make a living...”
Veirryn glared at his brother, “I just prefer to go along with things until I see something that catches my eye. I just have to be in the right place at the right time, that’s all.”
Kaerwynn gave a knowing smirk and Veirryn sighed again, “Alright, I don’t know what my plans are, but you got to start with taking one step. Eventually your feet will carry you to who knows where.”
“Just try to keep in touch, and if you need help let me know.”
Veirryn nodded and stood back up, “Aye. I should get going, with any luck I can make it to the Grove by next nightfall and find passage to Lion’s Arch.”
Kaerwynn stood up and gave his brother a tight hug, “Stay safe, older brother.”
Veirryn chuckled a bit and returned the hug, “With any luck, maybe we’ll be able to work together in the future depending on the circumstances!”
Kaerwynn watched as his brother began his trek down the road, until he ultimately disappeared from sight. He clenched his fist and raised it to the sky, “Mother, Veirryn...I’ll do my best...!”
