genuinely irritating how this fandom erases yuuji’s weird/ “offputting” traits. like sure, he’s upbeat, cute and social.

but he isn’t as innocent as everyone here paints him to be.

he’s into pretty gory stuff, isnt scared or disgusted by curses even from the initial start, unlike other commoners. gojo describes him as “a bit crazy” and he’s definitely right.

he went gambling despite being underage, uses vulgar speech, he does pretty unsanitary things and literally cannibalizes including fingers of an ancient corpse?

when his friends talk about toge’s struggle as a cursed speech user because he could easily kill someone by accident, he calls it “cool”. he can be very violent and unforgiving if he’s angered etc. etc.

he’s good natured and goofy and naive sometimes, but he’s far from being pure or innocent.

I like it better that way because those traits make him stand out in a unique way. Gege confirmed that gambling addiction happened because he was lured into it by his grandpa, and is into gory things most probably because it’s common among teenage boys. Yes, he’s not a normal kid, he never was even before he was born. For the most part of the bad traits, he knows they’re bad but is just simply careless. Plus, this is Jujutsu world and no one could stand pure and innocent there.

Throughout the manga, Yuuji’s ‘don’t care’ and ‘lowbrow’ attitude (as Gege mentioned) can be seen, and personally, it’s a pretty charming trait of him, though not working in favor of him sometimes. Although some people like to paint him as the ‘soft babygirl’ type, he is actually pretty rough around the edges, and prefers violence at times but it’s pretty funny that he still could be called a sunshine because he is very good natured and still seeks to save everyone he could.

「JJK 265: YUUJI & THE MORNING GLORY」

[Beware of SPOILERS]

So, I’m sure that everyone who read chapter 265 has noticed Yuuji mistaking hydrangea for morning glory. And I feel like it’s just more than a ‘subtle detail’, especially when the crayfish panels next to this also symbolized something. Not saying this is canon or anything, but I'm going to analyze the connection between Yuuji & the Morning Glory.

(This is gonna be interesting, I assure you ;)

THE MORNING GLORY

Morning Glory, or 朝顔 [Asagao] is an extremely popular flower in Japan. Although it is believed that they were introduced to Japan in the Heian period (794 - 1185), it was particularly loved in the Edo period (1603 - 1867). Books were even illustrated about it back then. 朝顔三十六花撰 (Asagao Sanju Rokka Sen) is a famous book that dates back to 1854, which displays beautiful illustrations of the Morning Glory.

But what does it symbolize, you ask? Well, in Japan, the Morning Glory is known for its momentary beauty, with the early bloom and decline of the flower. It blooms fresh in the morning, however, its petals close at noon. It is also associated with passionate love:

The Morning Glory also symbolizes the hot summer in Japan, with the Morning Glory Iriya Market Festival taking the lead place every year from July 6-8.

With all these details in mind, how does it connect with Yuuji?

THE CONNECTION

Well, the momentary blossom of the flower can represent the fleeting happiness in Yuuji’s life.

Yuuji’s lifetime wasn’t the best, but before Sukuna trampled on his everything, he was a fresh boy who was carefree and enjoyed life in his own way. The small period between him enrolling in Jujutsu High and Shibuya Arc rose as a happy experience for him with his newly made friends.

Also, remember in this chapter that he was recalling little happy moments in his childhood before Sukuna interrupted him.

Moreover, he lost every loved one he made through Jujutsu High. Nanami exploded, Kugisaki’s head blew up, Gojo split in half, Choso vanished into particles. The only one left who’s actually close to Yuuji is Fushiguro. But Sukuna took Fushiguro too. And he’s about to kill him as well, meaning that the last strand of Yuuji’s momentary happiness is about to disappear.

It could also mean that Yuuji’s life is slowly coming to an end, with the petals of his lifeline slowly closing, despite being so young and fresh.

In this chapter, Yuuji makes a bargain to Sukuna that if Sukuna let go of Megumi, he’ll let Sukuna live inside him with Yuuji as the host. This is quite a good solution on its own. However, when you remember their first plan back in the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, it becomes a huge possibility that Yuuji will kill himself along with Sukuna to ensure everyone’s safety this time.

Even if Yuuji is convinced to stay alive, not a lot of people would be in his favor because he’s holding in the very person that was about to kill all of them, so he’ll probably get executed in one way or the other.

For now I’m here, but can one trust the future? No, not in a world that teaches us its ways with the morning glory
