Tumblr mom, I come to you with a mom-specific question. My own wee goblin crash landed last week - how do I not spiral into anxiety about all the things that could go wrong? I was reading a handout from our pediatrician that mentioned "make sure you know how to do baby cpr" so I looked up how to do baby cpr and got very close to a panic attack picturing needing to do baby cpr. I have been as braced as possible for the post partum hormones (therapist, psych nurse, and ob all have told me I am as prepared as I can be) but I did not expect a 9am panic attack when trying to be prepared instead of burying my head in the sand. How do you not let the fear win?

Okay so if the fear becomes debilitating you need to TELL SOMEONE that is a professional and get some anti anxiety medication

Also remember that babies are resilient as all hell like evolutionarily. You have to actively neglect and attempt to harm them for them to get harmed!!

People have to come to you for advice before and I suppose I am joining the ranks!!

I recently moved out of my abusive household with the help of my (found family) friends. Without getting into details, not a good situation.

Despite both the better judgement of myself and my friends, I have kept both of my parents unblocked on my phone. Whenever I talk to my mother via phone call, it puts me in an irritable and frustrated state, even if we don’t talk about anything more than the weather.

A large part of me wants to block her, simply for my safety and peace of mind. But I also don’t want to cut contact completely? She is still my mother. Not that that excuses her actions in any way. It’s been a topic of debate ever since I first moved out in March.

It’s made more complicated by the fact that I’ll likely keep my dad unblocked, since he’s the much calmer of the two, and would only text me if he had news or needed to tell me something. If my mom finds out that he’s unblocked, it. I dunno. It worries me.

Advice? Reassurance? Something?

Write letters to your mom! If you're like I literally can not cut her out completely (you'd be completely in the right to do that you owe her nothing) just write her letters- then you you don't have to worry about the guilt of keeping your dad unblocked, and her thinking that you've cut her out and not him because she thinks you have this special thing that you do with her which can actually kind of help mend your relationship and on the other hand, you have time in between each response you don't have to connect immediately and get that immediate negative feedback loop

Ice cream for dinner? No no no, let me offer you a far better alternative.

Get Sorbet for dinner! Lower sugar, technically fruit so technically healthy. Ignore how ice cream like it is.

Then you can have ice cream after for dessert!

do you have rules for penny about swearing and language like idk. when is acceptable and what is acceptable?

so funnily enough some teachers in penny's pre k just got fired for RECORDING the children trying to get them to say cuss words and a parent saw the video and flipped out (rightfully so) and Penny was like "I didn't say them because those are in the house words and you have to be four ... four times like four I think you said? to say those in the house words and that was the deal and they broke the deal and then I had to go into the baby room and those babies couldn't even talk to me"

So basically Penny knows cuss words are in the house words. And I tell her she has to be 4 times 4 because when she says "I don't know what that is!" I say "then you're definitely not 4 times 4 yet!" Lol. She's also never heard anyone in her family ever cuss AT someone, just about things so I think that helps too

We do have a significant issue with her saying Jesus CHRIST under her breath when she's surprised or irritated though 🤣
