"Yes," Neji answered. "Hadn’t found the time until tonight."

He chuckled as he followed the older man up the steps. “Heard of it,” he answered, “haven’t tried it.” Which was always exciting— trying something new. Especially with alcohol.

"Do you typically mix it?" He hadn’t tried too many mixed drinks but the ones he had he enjoyed.

Kakashi unlocked the door, and allowed Neji to walk in before him. Since the rebuilding, Kakashi's apartment had changed, but it still held the same personality as before. He had added a couch, chair, and coffee table in the living area, where before it had been bare space. Otherwise, his kitchen was as sparse and clean as it had been before.  He took his shoes off at the front door. "Please, make yourself comfortable." He told the Hyuuga as he walked over to the refrigerator. "I'm not a tequila expert yet, but I've read about a few things." He answered as he pulled the silver liquid out of the fridge, along with mixer, limes, and salt.  "You can either take shots of it, with salt and lime. Or, we can have it mixed with this mixer. It would make a 'margarita'." He was giving Neji a choice as he placed the items before him. The mixer was colored green, and there was a parrot on the bottle. "So, which is it?"

Neji caught himself smiling and did nothing to stop himself. “Right.”

A warm sense of nostalgia began filling him up as he followed along Kakashi. “Besides a world war passing and a new Hokage? Not much,” he lightly joked. “I went out drinking a few times with some fellow jounin before the war. I certainly have a bit of a higher tolerance for alcohol now,” he explained. “First time drinking since the war ended, though.” The rising moon and the cool air made for a calm atmosphere as Neji walked along with the dirt road crunching lightly under his feet.

Joking from the usually stiff Hyuuga? Things really had changed since they'd last spent time together. It wasn't that Neji was usually stiff, but more guarded with his actions when around others. Kakashi could only grin; tonight was going to be very fun.  "Really? First time?" Kakashi wasn't going to outright come out and say that it was his first time since the war too. That would be embarrassing. "I guess I've been keeping everyone busy." He chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. They weren't very far from his apartment now. Despite the fact that he was Hokage now, Kakashi had not changed his address. He still lived in the same apartment building, even after it had been rebuilt after the Pein Invasion. Sure, he could afford to live in a house or an estate now but what was the point? Yamato argued he'd have more room, but Kakashi knew that because of his title change that he'd be spending more time in the office than at home. If there was one thing Kakashi had appreciated it had been the gifts of congratulations his jounin friends had given him when he'd become Hokage. "So, Neji, ever heard of something called tequila?" They were walking up the stairs to his apartment and he was taking his keys out of his pocket.

Neji was absolutely relieved to hear that Kakashi wanted a drink. Definitely something that Neji was all for, now that he was of legal age and could use a break after the mission.

He’d gone out drinking a few times since becoming of age. His family held a bit of a celebration (with his uncle’s finest liquor, but he couldn’t tell Kakashi that) and he certainly enjoyed an occasional drink every now and then with other jounin. But due to the war, it had been a while. This was the perfect opportunity to get back into it.

"I would be delighted to join you," Neji stated with a smile.

Kakashi was relieved to hear Neji accept. He was desperate for some company that would treat him like a normal human being and drink with him! Yamato treated him normally on occasion, but ever since Kakashi had become Hokage, the man had been doing damage control on his image. He had been forbidden to walk around with Icha Icha; it was killing him.

"Good!" Kakashi's smile could be seen in his eyes. "Let's go over to my apartment then, hm? I'd prefer to keep things private, hm?" He began leading the way without waiting for Neji's answer. 

"So, Neji, what's changed since we last imbibed?" He chuckled as he tried to start light conversation.

"Yes sir," Neji answered, "Kakashi-san," with a familiar smile. 

He noticed the little twinkle in Kakashi’s eye. Whatever it was he wanted, he knew Kakashi could probably easily talk him into it. That’s just the way the man is. Nonetheless, Neji still enjoys Kakashi’s company, and although his rank was now noble indeed, it didn’t intimidate him. “No,” he said with a tiny bit of caution.

Good. He was glad that they had cleared that up, despite the fact that it was only temporary. He knew though that if Hiashi were ever around the Hyuuga wouldn't be caught dead calling him by a more relaxed and causal name. 'Kakashi-san' was solely reserved for their one on one interactions.

Kakashi could heard the caution in Neji's voice and see it in the tensing of his shoulders. "Ah, well, then perhaps you'd be available to accompany me for a drink?" The twinkle in his eye increased. His mind was running wild with the thought of having a drunken debacle with Neji. He wondered if the Hyuuga had continued his drunk adventures after he'd introduced him to alcohol, and whether or not his tolerance had increased.

Things had certainly gotten quieter around Konohagakure. The most notable trait being a slow but sure decline in danger during high-ranking missions. Neji’s team returned from guarding a VIP not long ago, turning in their report to one of Kakashi’s higher-ranking officials for him to receive first thing in the morning. It was getting late, after all.

The Hyuuga caught a glimpse of him down the road and approached the new Hokage. He figured he’d let him know. “Oh, Hokage-sama,” he began formally as he picked up his pace slightly. He bowed before him. “Team Gai has turned in its report of the mission. You should receive it tomorrow morning.”

Hokage-sama. He really didn't like being called that. It was still strange and foreign to him. Still, he smiled at Neji and listened to what he had to say. It was bad news in his mind mainly because the paperwork aspect of his new job was already killing him. He kept a grimace from gracing his face. "Ah, arigatou. You're always so very timely with your paperwork." He answered. It was true; Team Gai always had their act together. "And please, call me Kakashi-san." He practically begged.

Then it suddenly hit him, and memories of a certain night came flooding back. Neji would drink with him. He had years ago, and now that he was actually legal he couldn't say it was immoral! Not that he had said that all those years ago but still..."Neji, are you busy at the moment?"

It was official. Kakashi was the Hokage. So...why didn't he feel any different? Sure he had more responsibility and loads more paperwork but he still felt like himself. The one thing that had changed was the fact that no one would go out and have a drink with him. Yamato claimed he was Hokage now, he shouldn't be caught being a deliquent drunk! 

Sure he was the leader of the village but that didn't meant he wanted to change his bad habits. Tsunade certainly hadn't when she'd been Hokage! Having added responsibility seriously sucked.

Who in the world would drink with him now? He pondered as he walked through the streets back towards his abode.

Upon hearing Kakashi’s groans, Neji called from the kitchen, “Are you awake yet?” The boy stretched his shoulders and arms back, having slept well (albeit not the most comfortably on he floor)— he didn’t know much about drinking, but he figured as much. He got a little drunk, but certainly not hangover-level drunk.

"I hope you don’t mind, but I figured I should make us breakfast. Think of it as a thank you for giving me my first drink," he explained as he poked his head back into Kakashi’s room, letting the bread toast. He added on gently, "And, sensei, please hide your magazines a little more creatively next time." The magazine lay uncovered thanks to the older jounin’s tossing and turning last night and had greeted Neji when he woke up with soft skin and alluring eyes— which wasn’t preferable when it was at your older coworker’s apartment.

Hearing Neji's voice made Kakashi's eyes pop wide open. Shit. He'd totally forgotten about him. The events of the night previous came rushing back to him and he wasn't sure if he regretted it or if it had been a decision well made. Pros were that he was closer to Neji, cons were that Neji could hold his bad behavior over his head. With a sigh, he threw the blankets over his head, as if trying to escape from the world. "Unfortunately." Came his muffled reply. He had to get up, but he really did not want to. 

He was forced up, however, by Neji's comment about his magazines. Never had he jumped out of bed so fast, grabbing at the magazines and running into his closet to shove them in there. He looked like a typical anime character, red and flustered. Clearing his throat, he merely answered, "N-no, not a problem, make yourself at home." He slammed the closet door shut behind him, pressing his back to it as he gave Neji an embarrassed grin. Wait, where was his mask? God damn it.  "So," he swallowed, running his fingers through his hair, "What are you making?" A desperate attempt to change the subject.

Neji lay on the floor, already taking off his overskirt and shirt to get more comfortable. He let his hair down and pulled a blanket over his body. “Yyesh,” he responded. He raised his arms up lazily in anticipation for them to be greeted by a fluffy white mass.

He snorted. “I’won’, I’won’,” the young jounin assured.

"Mmkay..." Kakashi replied, not really sure if he could take Neji at his word. Neji was a wild card right now, Kakashi couldn't predict his drunken behavior. But, right now he couldn't worry about it, too sleepy to care. He rolled over on his back, and said, "Nigh' nigh Neji." Before promptly falling asleep.

The next conscious thought Kakashi had wasn't until the next morning, when his head was pounding fiercely against his skull. "Ugh..." He groaned. He could feel the light from the window, and even with his eyes closed, it was still making his headache worse. He groped lazily for the curtain to shut it. He had already forgotten that Neji had stayed the night.

Neji couldn’t help but let out a chuckle and gently push Kakashi teasingly. “Noooooooo,” he whined with a smile.

Neji looked Kakashi in the eyes. “Nno, you lemme drink ezzac’ly how much I shoulda.” When the older let him be, he gathered focus and did his business. He could feel his body becoming warmer; his moving about definitely got the alcohol flowing about again. He fastened his pants when he finished and turned back out the door. “Fffloor,” was all he said as he let himself back down and retreated to crawling back to his blankets.

Kakashi followed Neji back out into the bedroom, raising an eyebrow at his drunken antics. "You didn' wash yooor handdss thass gross." he teased before flopping onto his own bed, pulling his blankets up. He stared down at Neji for a moment, contemplating how much trouble he would be in if Hiashi Hyuuga ever found out that he'd allowed Neji to drink. He shuddered at the thought. "Neji...I fink iss' bed time." He nodded. The Hyuuga looked like he was about to pass out anyway. "Do you needa' pillow?" he asked. "Dun come climbin' into my bed at night." He warned. That would make for an awkward morning.

"Shhhhhhhhu—" a hiccup,"—ush." That’s what he said, but Neji found himself laughing a little at himself too.

"You— wash yourlanguagsh. Thass disguss’in. I’m— I’ll be ffine," he stated, trying again to stand and using the edge of the bed as a guide. He immediatley changed his mind. "Nno I won’, help me."

"Disgussin'??? Are you sayin' your dick is disguss'in? Oh man, I dun wanna know man." Kakashi was obviously joking, but he still made a face in disgust, as if he were imagining disfigured genitalia.  Either way, with a sigh, Kakashi helped the first-time drunkard. "I letchu drink too mush." He clambered off the bed and put his arm under Neji to support him. He guided him into the restroom, and right in front of the toilet. "Uh....that's all the help you're gettin'..." Kakashi promptly took his arm away and turned around so he didn't have to see Neji pee. Possibly he did it privacy, possibly because it would just be weird to see the younger exposed like that.

Neji gave a half-smile. “Mayyb’ one day,” he shrugged, “‘N maybe itis ‘mportant, but bein’ in th’ Bransh Houshe, it isn’ my top priority. Tha’ isn’t t’say I’m not interested in furthin’ it, juss not righ’ now. ‘M young.” Neji didn’t quite think that all through, and he realized that, but what was said was said. In the back of his head, he knew he was already a valuable member of the clan, regardless of his age.

He grinned back at Kakashi. “Not at all,” he answered bluntly. “‘M more int’rested in changing the clan’s House system. Hinata-shama iss too, ‘n all, but I understaand sh’has a thing f’someone. I just happen not’to.”

Almost without warning, Neji moved to stand up in search for a restroom, despite the fact he wasn’t familiar with Kakashi’s apartment or the feeling of being intoxicated. In an immediate blur, he slipped on the blanket that lay on the floor and fell right back down on his ass in a thud. “… Ah. Ow.”

Kakashi didn't even respond to what Neji was rambling about, instead opting to laugh loudly at the jounin who was now on his ass. "Pfff you fell!" He stated the obvious. He clutched the pillow tightly as he laughed a little too much at the situation. "Where'ya tryin' to go?" He asked, though he didn't need too. He was feeling the need to relieve himself as well. "My bafroom is right dere." And he pointed to the door right next to his bed. "Do you...need help walkin'? If you need help holdin' your dick, then you're out of luck." He was so vulgar when he was drunk.

Neji nodded, “So you’re ol’ frien’s, that makessense,” he smiled. He scooted comfortably on the blanket he sat on.

He blinked and rested his head on the edge of the bed again, his cheek pressed against it. “Tenten?” Neji repeated to Kakashi.

Surely, he and Tenten spoke to one another plenty, but only as much as he did with Rock Lee too.

"Tenten n’ I are fwien’s n’ teammates. I value her closely as shuch," he stated, giving a half-smile with a soft expression. “‘M not quite inch’rested in ‘ny romantic relachionships. Why, do yoo think shhe has a thing f’me?"

Kakashi completely dropped the issue of his relationship with Yamato. No need to stoke the fire that was the rumor mill.  "Hai, TenTen." He answered, drawing a pillow up to his chest and clinging to it tightly. It was interesting to see Neji's reactions; clearly he had no feelings for his team mate. How boring. Kakashi pouted in response. "Why not? You'ra young man on his way up'tha ladder. No plans on further'n the Hyuuga line?" He grinned at his own little joke.  He pursed his lips at the next question though. "Hmm...I fink she does, but dun'take my word for it. Woul'dya let that fact change you're frien'ship?"

Neji was only smiling back, well aware of everything Kakashi was telling him up until his question at the end. “Oh, yyess, I know. I w’s jus’sayin’, you n’ him prolly talk about this sorta thing all th’time. You n’ Yam’to-taishhou seem like a gossipy pair, talkin’ privately. I w’s gonna as’ if there’ss anyone else yoo think’s t’gether,” he giggled.

If Neji had any inkling of suspicions of something between Kakashi and Yamato previously, he felt like he was certainly confirmed of that something. He knew not to rub it in. Neji was drunk, but not a clueless idiot. He consciously made an effort to remember that whatever the hell that reaction was, it would not leave Kakashi’s apartment.

The older jounin’s face at this point, however, was a sight for sore eyes. And Neji had excellent eyes. “I’dunno, yoo two seem like you’ve known eashother a while. Like yoo talk so cash’lly with one ‘nother.” Neji shrugged, “Seems quaint.”

Kakashi rubbed the back of his head, embarrassed by the simple observations Neji had made. Damn those Hyuuga eyes. "A-ah we were partners in Anbu togeth'r so we've known eachoth'r a long time." He slurred, trying to keep himself from nodding furiously. "J-just old friens!" He lied through his teeth. He wondered if Yamato would be angry for saying that...hopefully not. Neji was their junior, he had no business knowing their affairs.  "Haha...we jus...work togeth'r, it's only coincidence tha' we're friends. But yah, we do talk a lot. Yamato is a gossip." He smiled nervously. 

He was eager to change the subject. "Wha...wha'about you and TenTen? Chu seem...close." He was floundering, his cheeks still recovering from their pink hue.

Neji grinned widely and rested his chin on the edge of the bed. “Tha’sso— Tha’sso nice.” he stated. “If th’y’re t’gether, ‘m really happy for’em,” he smiled back at Kakashi, “even if they’re t’rrible at hiding it.” He giggled to himself. He knew so very well that this was none of his business, but that didn’t bother him one bit in his drunken state.

"Hoo else…?" Neji asked back, but not quite wondering. He spoke before he had the chance to think. "I dunno, you spen’lottsa time with Yam’to-taishou," he slurred. "Oh, no’that I’m sayin’ you’re t’gether. I don’ really know where ‘m goin’ wi’that." Where was he going with that? “I’m really not good a’ guessin’ this’sorta stuff. I jus’think you an’ him pro’lly talk ‘bout thissorta stuff all th’time.”

There was a tiny warmth that would rise up in Neji’s stomach when he saw his friends together, getting along with others and speaking to each other intimately and platonically. He’d seen how Kakashi and Yamato spoke to one another so closely from time to time and it was the first thing that popped in his head, with one of the men right in front of him. He hoped he hadn’t said something out of line.

It was all fun and games for Kakashi when he was poking fun at others and speculating about their relationships, but when it came to him, he couldn't handle it. With his face revealed, there was no way for him to hide the flush that crawled up his neck to his cheeks, coloring them pink. Usually the master of emotions, he for once felt flustered by Neji's observation.

He quickly stumbled over his usual line, "A-ah! Ch-chotto matte! Yamato and I are c-c-co-captains, we haf'ta spend lossa of time together. Issss our job. We keep N-Naruto's kyuubi in check!" He laughed nervously, waving his hands as if he could physically wipe away Neji's suspicions. If there was one thing Kakashi feared, it was having his personal life found out and gossiped about. He didn't even trust Neji with that information.  Clearly if Neji was seeing something between him and Yamato, then they were being too obvious. As drunk as he was, Kakashi suddenly had no reservations in asking, "What made'ya think t-that silly sort of thing?" He cleared his throat loudly.

He kept his surprise well hidden, turning to look at the other man with an impassive expression. Itachi couldn’t say he was expecting Kakashi to approach him so casually, and he decided to play along, giving him a greeting nod before answering the question.

“An old romance called Shinju. Have you heard of it?” He asked, calmly, marking the page he was currently reading before closing the book.

It was not polite to have a conversation with an open book, and while the other person was standing, so he gestured to the spot beside him, offering the older man a chance to sit if he so wished.

Kakashi was surprised that Itachi motioned for him to sit next to him. Sure they had worked together in the ANBU many years ago, but they were never close. "Romance?" He took the offered seat, leaning his back against the tree. He propped a knee up, and rested his arm on it, hand dangling loosely. "I didn't know you enjoyed that genre, Itachi-san." He mentioned his surprise. Kakashi was a fan of romance novels, but of more erotic variety. He didn't think Itachi shared that with him. "I've never heard of it. What's it about?" He asked politely, his eyes glancing to the cover. Kakashi was acting as he usually was, in a casual manner. Yet he was surprising himself with how easy he found it to talk to Itachi and feel relaxed.

Gossip Girl: Neji and Kakashi

Neji’s immediate reaction was boisterous laughter, his cheeks seemingly becoming pinker with his wide grin. “Ka-Kakashhi, lemme tell yousome’in,” he struggled between chuckles. “I have- I have never,” he made sure to punctuate it just right, “seen thos’two not’t’gether. E’rry time I see’em. Th’re always t’gether.” Neji was excited to talk about this. He knew it could be a coincidence— maybe Izumo and Kotetsu just so happened to work well together on missions and such. He would never talk about this type of stuff to anybody while sober, but he was also having his suspicions and he was so glad someone else noticed it and brought it up while intoxicated.

"I w’s ‘fraid I was th’only one hoo noticed," Neji continued. "Lissen, sensei, ‘m not really good at… ‘detecting’ this sortathing. Butif they’re more th’n friends, I wouldn’ even be su’prised." He waved a hand, stifling his giggling.

Kakashi grinned wolfishly. This was a new side of Neji he had never seen and he loved it.  It was fun to gossip with someone younger than himself as well. The younger generation always had a unique perspective on the adults that ran the village. He laughed, knowing that it wasn't just the adults seeing Kotetsu and Izumo in the same light. "Chuu kno' they live togeh'thr right?" He spoke in a low voice, grin absolutely devilish. "They 'rn't really good at hidin' their affectshuns but they think they are." 

"Oi oi...who els'do ya think is togeth'r?" He prompted. He enjoyed listening to Neji's opinions, soaking it all in.

Gossip Girl: Neji and Kakashi

Neji was still slightly distracted by whatever the older jounin was doing but refrained from making an effort to try and focus on it too much. For now, it was too much strain on his eyes to do so. He knew he saw something and would probably bring it up later, if he remembered.

The blankets thrown down to him landed on top of his head; moving to catch them would be too much effort in his current state. He laid one blanket across the floor, wrapping the other over his shoulders. “Yyyes. Uhh, ssssometimes oth’r clans’n’stuff? Bbbbut weshould gossip’bout th’other jounin,” Neji smiled widely, working to remove his forehead protector to get comfortable.

Kakashi was glad to continue on with the subject of gossip. He never thought that Neji would ever admit to gossiping. He knew that Hiashi could be condescending so it wasn't outside the realm of possibility that Hyuuga's talked about others. He just never thought Neji would admit to it. 

"Ohh??" He turned over on to his belly, leaning his chin into his palm. "Oth'r jounin???" Kakashi could definitely be a gossip too. "Do you chu...do you chu think that Izumo and Kotetsu are mor'an just friens?" He prompted, waggling his eyebrows.
