no one ever warns you about this about adulthood but no one tells you how important surfaces become to you. like it's a perpetual struggle to get enough surfaces in your life and then in turn keeping those surfaces clean

If it was possible to like work part time and afford a place on your own anywhere it would change everything like the lives that would flourish the art that would be getting made the ideas and love and beauty that would be expressed it would change the world and they don’t want that…. They do not want that at all

did anyone else catch this cold that feels like the flu and does the usual feel-like-you're-dying thing for a day or two but then after you get "better" you still have a wad of phlegm the size and viscosity of a bowling ball in your skull for the next week and alternately choke on post-nasal drip that tastes + feels like Silly Putty or prolapse your nostil while blowing your nose loud enough to signal to Gabriel that the Rapture has begun? asking for a friend
rapid tests are borderline useless with this current variant so everyone should just assume this is COVID. if you get sick right now it is statistically more likely to be COVID than anything else (1 in 46 people statistically is infected with COVID right now, according to wastewater tracking). negative tests just don't mean shit anymore and they were never very reliable in the first place, but the omicron strain is ESPECIALLY good at evading tests, particularly if you don't swab your cheeks and throat but even then
everyone has to wear a good mask everywhere, I'm sorry
I also caught this at an outdoor wedding in August, where no one else had a single positive rapid test before or after the event, where I didn't go inside the entire day, and it felt like bad allergies/a cold. so the symptoms are different, outdoor events are no longer safe to attend unmasked (and until recently almost every reliable data was saying they were), and even though I was sick for a month, my partner whom I live with never tested positive the entire time even though he did have symptoms. for many rounds of different brands of tests. I DID test positive but only a couple times out of a half dozen tests.
1. negative tests don't mean anything anymore
2. outdoor events are no longer safe to attend unmasked. omicron is too contagious
3. 20% chance of getting long covid every single time you get infected, chances increase the more times you are infected
4. the new booster is good. get the booster if you can. but it does not prevent infection or contagion. it just makes infection and contagion a certain percentage safer for a few months after the shot. we don't have exact numbers on this. get the shot if you can. the shot will not prevent infection or illness, it will increase your chances of surviving them and lower your chances of spreading them.
5. this will continue to happen unless (lmao) people start taking contagion more seriously. they won't, so decide now if you're cool with getting permanently disabled by long covid and make your decisions accordingly, keeping in mind that you can spread the disease to people who will die from it without knowing you have it, without having symptoms, and without testing positive.
6. it's actually incredibly easy for almost everyone to wear a good mask (cloth ones are bullshit, surgical are less bullshit, but please just get n95 or kn95 or a respirator) to events, stores, and errands. I do it all the time.
i know my reach here is minuscule but yes, covid is definitely still "a thing", and tearing around the city currently. i did want to chip in to add though that last time i got sick and woke up a bit feverish and my gut was like "shit this feels like covid", i used one of my slightly expired rapid tests, and it lit up like a hot damn. thankfully (?) it was super mild and i felt better within a couple of days but still layed low for 14 days because just because i felt better real quick doesn't mean it couldn't do irreparable damage to someone else. be careful out there, mask up when your gut tells you to, and you might just save a life. staying home when you're sick is literally the least you can do rn!
