@kumaronoa did another incredible commission for me! My shadar-kai bloodhunter named Archonocht! Much of his backstory is secret and the other people from the campaign follow me so I can’t say much about him, but I will say that he’s sufficiently offputting! And Jen did an incredible job! Both capturing what I wanted and adding details to things I wasn’t sure about!
Thanks so much again! When their commissions open, definitely shoot them a commission! They do incredible work!
My favorite part of DMing is when my players just absolutely blow all of my expectations out of the water. Because sometimes I set things up so that the party has to break into a castle to keep an npc boyfriend from maybe doing a murder and starting a war. So the party gets to the castle, manages to get inside during a party, and now has to make their way into forbidden areas.
So of course I make a layout, set up guards, consider how alert said guards may be and get everything all prepped in case they decide to sneak through. This could be a tense nail-biting stealth mission which will only get harder if they make bad calls/rolls.
And then instead of that the rogue whips out her bag of tricks and sends a lion charging into the dungeon, a bear through the second level, and a giant goat along the staircase. And every single one of these animals rolls so well they instantly kill all 6 guards they come across, putting the castle into red alert while the rest of the party turns invisible and uses the distraction to sprint deeper inside.
I love setting things up for my players, but the nature of that is that I have spent a lot of time speculating on how they'll act when they encounter these situations and people I've made for them. It is such an absolute delight when no matter what I thought could happen, they take what they're given and do something completely new! This was just a very fun chaotic session and my heart is full of love for my players
