The SSU Indie Film Fest is preparing for the 6th Festival in April 2020. Prior to that the festival is planning to host a series of workshops leading up to the festival. Kareem McMichael, co-director of the festival talked about it on WTOC Mid-Monring Live.

The cast, crew and playwrights of this year’s very successful production of tonight’s “Works In Progress!” Bravo! Works In Progress 2018 is a Reader’s Theatre Production of three original 10 minute one act plays written by the winning playwrights of the “Exit Stage Right” Play Writing Contest in the Fall of 2017.

KAREEM MCMICHAEL NAMED ONE OF THE 40 UNDER 40 WITH THE USCC NOW THE SMCC
Urban Savannah Chamber of Commerce, now the Savannah Multicultural Chamber of Commerce and Dismas Charities Savannah presented the 2018 Forty Under 40 Gala last Saturday evening at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force on Hwy 80 in Pooler. “This gala reflects the remakable work and dedication of Savannah’s leaders under the age of 40,” said Russell Canady, Co-Chair of this event. “Tonight, we honor those that highlight the true meaning of leaderhip, igniting and fostering change in our community. Their legacies are inspiring others to dream bigger,” Canady continued.The program began with the Sol. C. Johnson Marching Band directed by Kenyatta Tucker entering the room with excitement. The keynote speaker for the evening was Christopher K. Middleton, Esq. with the firm Cox, Rodman and Middleton, LLC. Middleton’s message to those in attendance as well as the honorees was to “tell your story, the whole story.” Middleton stated, “Your story could be inspiration to others when you least expect it”. The Rising Stars Award was presented to Alderman Van Johnson and the Savannah Chatham County Youth Commission. Danielle Smart serenaded the audience with Andrea Day’s version of “Rise Up” as the 40 honorees took to the stage. The following awards were presented: The Humanitarian Award, Renee’ Williams; Emerging Leader Award, Falen Cox; Entrepeneur Award, Alonzo Wright; Spirit of Excellence Award, Ellisha M. Jones; and the Innovation Award, Meredith Stone. Others honorees included Ahna Zackery, Anaston Scott, Anthony Johnson, Bakari Bryant, Brian Dawsey, Charles, Williams, Sr., Dr. Crystal Williams, Darin Edgecomb, Dr. Roy Maynard, Dr. Torian White, Edward Gresham, Elondia Harden, Gary Gordon, Herbert “Tre” Singleton, III, Jamie Hoff, JaQuan Oliver, Jessica Anderson, Johnny McDonald, Kareem McMichael, Kellie Fletcher, Kissie Lyn Tan, Labeeb Abdullah, Lisa Scarbrough, Marcus Scott, IV, Marquice L.
