Knowing how clingy, but violent Ren can be often conflating the latter with intimacy, say the reader has been settled with him for a while.
If the reader had attempted to be as “avoidant” as possible, by keeping their head down & staying obedient towards Ren how much would this stay feasible for the reader?
They listen, but don’t show any active affection towards him & if whenever he does make an effort to show affection it’s more obvious they tolerate it instead of fighting. Because reader has been clearly afraid but concealing it, what if after a particularly torturous display of Ren’s “love” the next time he tried to touch them they flinch?
Their true feelings come out, not the kind they sanitize to spare themselves, but genuine fear showing in the reader. The only time they prove to him what they feel is a rejection of him. Sorry this is so long 😭 I just live for angst & punishment.
I hope I did your idea justice... (◞‸◟ )
All you could do was cry when Ren pressed the knife down against the skin of your thigh. He held the knife in a tight grip, his other hand was gripping your chin, slightly squishing your cheeks, careful not to hurt you with his claws. A bit ironic when you consider what he's doing with his other hand. You were both sitting down on the cold basement floor, and you couldn't even begin to remember how much time has passed, you could only assume so much as you felt your blood coat the floor under you. Everything felt numb, your body was slightly jerking up with every cut he inflicted. Your body felt close to giving up, but Ren was careful enough no to overdo it, taking small breaks before pressing the knife down once more, not wanting you to faint. He didn't tie you up to the pole this time, apparently trusting you enough not to do anything stupid and ordering you not to move.
You didn't want to find out what would happen if you did move, so you tried your best to suppress your instincts to move away from the knife. It was getting harder not to move the longer he made you take his "love", the only stability you had was the tight grip you had on his wrist, which he didn't seem to mind as he focused at the task at hand. You were getting tired, your whole body was screaming in pain and you didn't know how much you could take any longer. You held your head low, closing your eyes shut together as to not see the cuts on your skin, not knowing how you would react if you did.
His expression softened as he dug the knife deeper, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth. You could feel his heavy breathing on your skin. "I love you…" Ren whispered your name in such a raw and loving way which only made your frustration grow as you begin to loathe those words. You continued to avoid his gaze, refusing to let out any other sounds but cries of pain. After a bit, Ren finally grew satisfied with what he had done to you. Your body was decorated in cuts and bruises now, some cuts were carved in the shape of hearts and others were kept simple, but still deep nonetheless. Even when he started to patch you up, you kept your head low, biting your lips as you tried to supress any more tears from falling.
Ren gave you a kiss on your forehead, lingering for a bit before standing up. Your head was ringing and you almost couldn't make out what he was saying. "You must be hungry, how about I make you some food, love?" He asked, not waiting for an answer before walking towards the stairs. You could hear the wide grin on his face as he spoke, his tone making goosebumps appear on your skin. Just feeling his loved crazed gaze on you made you too scared to let out any noise, fearing that this was not the end for today. He stopped in his tracks when he noticed you're not following him along as usual. Not even half the steps up, he turned around, worry and confusion evident in his face. "Aren't you coming?" he tilted his head to the side as he asked, his tail swishing calmly from side to side, waiting for your answer.
His voice made you jump up, you looked at him with an expression he couldn't decipher, something felt different when he caught your gaze. Has he taken it too far? No, that can't be, you know what this means to him, to you both. However, before he could ask for your well being, you turned your face away from him once more. He continued to attentively watch you, his eyes not leaving your meek figure. The longer he looked at you, the more you wanted to crawl back in a corner and hide. You wrapped your arms around yourself, your breathing quickened as you shakingly stood up. Your body was screaming in pain as you slowly limped toward him. Everything felt hopeless. What's even the point? Every choice you make results in you getting tortured anyway. Not knowing when he will get sick of you makes a shiver run up your spine. You didn't want to feel pain anymore. You step closer to him, stopping right before the stairs.
You could still feel the knife inside you, how it teared up your skin and dug deeper into your flesh. Ren noticed your lack of movement, walking two steps ahead to see what you would do. He didn't mind the fact that you didn't step closer unless he was a fine distance ahead of you. You tried your best to not let your fear show, but there's something inside of you telling you that he already knows. Of course he would. You didn't want to die. Ren could easily just end your life right here and now. The thought makes your blood run cold, causing you to wrap your arms tighter around yourself. No matter how obedient you were, there was no garante of your survival. You're breathing quickened as you made it to the last step, the change of light felt harsh next to the dim light of the basement, causing you to slightly squint your eyes. You could just end up like the man in his freezer, it was only a matter of time.
"How about you sit down on the couch, hm?"
You found yourself in the living room, his voice breaking you out of your trance, ringing in your ear. Ren was looking at you, his smile unwavering and you could feel a sense of unease wash over you. Not wasting more time, you quickly made your way toward the couch, sitting down just as quick. Ren let out a heartly chuckle "Come on, relax! I'll be right back."
His voice fainted into the distance as he left, his laugh repeating in your head like a mantra. He will kill you. You're sure of it. You tilted your head up, catching your reflexion in the dark TV screen. Tears started welling up in your eyes when you saw yourself, you could barely recognise yourself. You've never seen such expression on yourself before. Your eyes were wide with dark circles under them, your hair was dishevelled and you could see a faint blood splatter on your cheek. The clothes Ren gave you were covered in blood and sticking to your skin, the blood on them begining to add to the coldness you felt on your entire body. Your attention remained solely on the reflexion right in front of you, you're expression not changing. You could barely remember how your once normal life felt like. How it felt like when you didn't have the constant fear to lose your life. You've been his captive for months now and it felt as if your last bit of sanity was hanging on a thin threat. It seemed as if no one was looking for you. No one would safe you from him. Your felt your heart hammer against your chest and you nervously begin to scratch your arms as your thoughts consume you.
You didn't want to die. . .

I DON'T WANT TO DIE. I DON'T WANT TO DIE.
Suddenly you felt a a presence near you, pulling you out of your trance. You quickly turned your gaze toward him, and before he could touch you, you flinch.
Ren looked at you with a blank expression, his eyes widened once more when he saw the look on your face. Your body was trembling, you eyes seemingly avoiding him at all cost and your rapid breathing took him by surprise. He tried to move closer to you, his sentence abruptly interrupted when he reached his hand out once more "Are you sca-"
Your whole body jerked away from him, your voice loudly immersing from you, but still trembling, taking him aback. Your vision got blurry as tears fell freely down to your knees. You held your hands up, trying to protect yourself from him, but all he did was look at you with wide eyes, his hand still in the air before dropping beside him. It felt as if his whole world fell apart. He didn't even want to inflict pain on you, all he wanted was to be close to you, but you seemed too scared to even comprehend anything but your fear right now. Your fear of him. He didn't understand, all he wanted was to show his affection, his love for you. He wanted to know the real you, the real you you've been desperarely hiding from him. His ears flattened against his head as he bawled up his fists in frustration. The realisation hit him like a truck as tears welled up in his eyes. Maybe you never understood his intentions. He thought that you just weren't fond of expressing yourself, but it seems that there was more to it than that. Ren loved you, dearly, he thought that maybe, just maybe, there was a chance for you to learn to love him too. However, that hope quickly faded when he shakingly tried to reach out once more, only for you to flinch and scoot back to the end of the couch. His eyebrows knitted in frustration and before he could think he leaped onto you. A loud, high-pitched sound travelled up and out of your chest when you felt his weight on you, caging you between his legs. He took your wrist in his hand and put his other next to your head, making you fall on your back as he got unbearably close to you. Your begging fell to deaf ears as he just stared at you. You desperately tried to kick him away, but to no avail. He let you kick him, he didn't care about the pain as his tears fell down your face.
You felt your body grow tired, the wounds he inflicted earlier were throbbing, but you continued to try to push him off. Luckily for you, Ren grew tired of your kicking and swiftly wrapped his hands around your neck. You let out a short breath in shock as you felt your heart hammering in your ears. Ren looked down at your, anger evident in his eyes as he pressed down harder against your neck. You begin to scratch up his arms, continuing to try to kick him off, only to get kicked in your stomach with his knee, but that didn't stop you. Ren let out grunts in pain and shut his eyes, trying his best to keep you still and to bear the pain. You try to speak, to beg him to stop, but all that came out of your mouth were ugly gurgles. Everything around you starts to darken as your body grew weak, doing little to no damage to him now. You tried to call out his name one more time as your eyes roll back, but he didn't falter and kept the pressure steady. Ren felt your body go limp against him, and suddenly, as if something switched inside of him, he quickly lets go of your neck and falls back as he scrambles off your body in a panic. All he could do was look at your limp body, tears continuing to fall.
The meal he prepared for you long cold, long forgotten.
