Baron "The Boss" Roost is a show-off; a flashy, attention-seeking jerk that everybody loves. At least, that's how Bridget Atlas saw him. Of course they would get invited to the same party. Alistair, their mutual cat friend, got a kick out of putting the most clashing personalities in a room to watch them squirm uncomfortably. He calls it entertainment. In this case, Bridget sat in the corner of the screened in porch and watched as that pompous brat Baron loudly recalled lame stories that somehow kept the rest of the small crowd on the edge of their seats. She despised her friend for falling in with the crowd and listening to that fool. Her attention drifted to her pineapple cocktail, which she swirled around idly. She glanced down at her bare feet, and wiggled her toes that were warm despite the cool night air. The group suddenly burst into laughter, and slowly started filtering back into the house. As the last few passed through the doorway, Bridget looked up in time to catch Baron staring right at her. They were the last two in the room now. After a few seconds, he ventured. "Hey Bridget. Enjoying the party?" She raised her eyebrows. "Sure. Lots of people." She held her cup up, "Decent drinks. Doesn't get better." He chuckled lightly, "Right. Well, I'll let you get back to it then. Catch ya later!"
After that night, she noticed Baron wasn't as shallow as he seemed. They talked more and more as the next few weeks went on, and they became unlikely friends. She still hated his crowd-pleasing tendencies, but when they were alone he was really an intelligent being with passions, albeit lofty ones, beyond seeking attention. He explained that he enjoyed her company, because she wasn't a follower but an observer. He also enjoys her humor and down-to-earth attitude.
