Conclusion

Bad things first. The worst part of all of this was timing. I know we got the brief long time ago but the formative was so soon we barely had time to think about it and then we didn’t get enough help. Everyone was focusing on dissertation first as that was until 17th of March, then FMP because the submission was 10th of May and this one everyone left until the end. As I mentioned on my FMP blog I physically couldn’t do this earlier and especially that I didn't have an idea it was just hard. I started thinking about it right before 10/05 and it didn’t really take me long to figure out what I want to do. The possibility to create the artist was very good and that opened my head a bit. Because my model/actress lives with me it was much easier to film, we woke up one day at 6am just get some shots done and then I contacted my favourite MUA but she was only off on the 25th of May, so I made sure that both me and Aline will be off that day. We started make up before 12 and started shooting around 2pm. After that shoot I had only 1,5 weeks to edit everything. I was spending bits by bits every day to make this video. Because I’ve been working so much recently i could only do it on my lunch breaks or after work. But I made it again and I’m happy. It was a bit rushed but this is how my life looks all the time. I wish I came up with this idea earlier. I could’ve start shooting it in April and made do separately filming and video. that always kind of distracts me especially if I need to have a story in the video.

Video Inspiration

I don’t really have any inspiration for the video. I just had all of those weird things in my head and wanted to make them real. I guess I was thinking about making something like this for a long time and honestly I have to idea where it came from

I had quiet a lot of fun filming it and then editing. I get more and more into editing recently. I always though I’ll hate it but now it seems so much fun!

In this video I decided to make the transition from being ‘normal’ person to her stage persona by getting naked in the forest. That bit when she’s scratching her legs shows how much she hates being in the body and looking like this, then she gets all crazy and happy when she’s finally naked and doesn’t have to pretend anymore.

I know if I had more time to film I could’ve done it much better. Originally i wanted to add some shots of barbies by themselves but within this timeframe it was just impossible

I think Alina did a very good job and she was very open to my ideas and didn’t complain even when she had to vomit that confetti pieces.

It was a very good experience and I think I may do some more filming with her next time, just for my personal project. She’s just perfect for all creepy and creative ideas

This song came kind of naturally. I’m not the biggest fans of female vocals but I always knew Evanescence and her talent. This is why I decided to choose her for my video and my model/actress used to be a fan of her music and told me about this song. Lithium is a mood stabilising drug for people with bipolar disease. And this all makes so much sense. I sometimes feel I choose or do things subconsciously and in the end it all works together.

Poster and social media For the main poster and the CD cover I decided to make a negative bar covering my artist’s eyes just to show her double personality. it also works very well with Lithium which is a drug that helps with dealing with bipolar disease

And shoot day that happened on the 25th of May. It was fun to walk around the park and take weird photos and then film

And this is what I want to have in my CD.

I think the inside would be the coolest if I shoot just barbie’s heads for the actual CD and in the background/inlay have their bodies/legs. Super creepy

My storyboard. This is roughly what I’d like to happen in the video. I just decided to draw main scenes. I like filming a little bit spontaneously, i like being free when I film or shoot. And have my eyes open for any surprises.

I saw this trailer last year and i walkways wanted to do nude shoot in the forest. Because my flatmate is very openminded she was okay with me filming her in this environment naked. I watched the movie and there’s a very old woman who got kicked out of the window and the when she was almost dead a wizard cane to her and he did something that made her you again Video : 1:20

I didn’t have time to collaborate with a graphic designer so I decided to do a little bit by myself and because my Artist’s name is just ‘V’ I wanted to connect it somehow with dolls so I photoshopped one hand and made a logo out of it.

CD Inspo

We need 8 pages, including the cover. I want my cover to be front and back a bit similar but different, for example open and closed eyes. Inside I won’t put much text, I just want to focus on the story and show how my artist evolved

Artist and the audience

My musician will be V, she’s a young woman who always felt trapped in her life/body. She always knew her life is missing something. Born and raised in a small city, she did’t feel free. When she grew up she decided she wants to leave everything and everyone behind her and move somewhere far away. So she did, she lives now in a massive city with a lot of perspectives. She always into art, especially singing and designing. She always made by herself halloween costumes and this is how she got inspired for her stage appearance. Her music is very deep goth and metal and her very delicate and at the same time strong voice is breaking the rules of man dominated metal scene. Her audience are mainly young women. XXI Century Goths who don’t necessarily like wearing all black. To her concerts they dress same way as their idol. Barbie costumes. Most of them are in age between 20 and 24 when young people from living with their parents have to become adults. Finish school and find jobs. They all feel a bit trapped in between and lost. this music helps young women to be brave and fight for their dreams.

I had this inspiration in my head for a very long time when few years ago I found above photos online and I though it’s so cool that someone came up with the idea to show these idealised Barbies as very bad ‘people’ who murder their husbands, kids etc. I’m thinking about doing some shots like these for my booklet and film a little bit for the video we have to make

So this is Japanese trend called Fairy Kei Lolita

They have all sort of different versions. the first one for example is a goth version of that trend. I’d like my artist to look this crazy but in a bit different way. I find it very interesting that these girls want to dress like this but it doesn’t interest me much. Although, I always loved creating costumes for my shoots and this is going to be a great opportunity to shoot my babies again. Honestly, I don’t even know where is this obsession coming from. When I was little I had quite few of them but I could never do anything bad with them so when because my Mum would just get very upset. So now, when I’m adult I decided I want to get as many of them as possible and just rip their heads of and break their arms. Barbies symbolise something I hate the most, they’re fake, too perfect and very girly. I’ve never been like this and I never want to be this perfect. Plus I believe in recycling! Something that most people see as rubbish, I see as an opportunity to create something great.

Soichi Aoki ‘Fruits’

This photographer captures streets of Japan, the most growing subcultures. What he does is very unique. He just walks around and looks for ‘crazy looking’ people. It’s mostly women and they dress a bit like little girls which I find very interesting.

As soon as I came up with the idea, I knew how’s going to be perfect. So this is my friend Alina, she’s studying Drama in London and we wanted to shoot together for a long time. I’m planning to do a video as well and she’s just going to be perfect with her big crazy eyes. The funny thing is that as soon I told her what I want to do this project she said she wants to model, right before I actually asked her if she could do that. So that was perfect! And I know she will agree to almost everything so it will make my job much easier
