kayeszes:
Shit. Kayden felt exhausted and that could only be a sign that he slept longer than he had thought or even wanted to. Even five hours seemed like too much at this point, so he could only imagine how long it had been since he rested his head against the caved in pillow that he called his own. Not only thatâthe pounding headache he felt wasnât doing any good as he finally blinked his eyes open to glance around and see that he wasnât in his room. The sight of a medical room that he had been to a number of times caught his attention as Kay pushed himself up from the bed and blinked his eyes a few more times. âWhat the fuck..?â How hard did he hit head this time to end up here?
News traveled relatively fast, especially in such small communities. When Kate found out that Kayden was gone -- it hit closer to home and more personal tan with the two or three previous people who got kidnapped. She didnât expect it to, but it did -- and even more so when she learned that he was in the medical, back. Curiosity got the best of her (lowkey she wanted information, too) so it was no surprise when she walked into the room to find him. ââYouâre awake,ââ Kate stated the obvious with some relief in her voice, trying not to sound worried.
travisxsmith:
Travis was on his way back to the hospital along with another supply runner and an engineer after getting all the things they need for the wall. The repairs would go much faster if they had everything they needed, but resources were limited in the world that has stopped. While one of them drove the humvee and other checked the list, Travis kept his eyes on their surroundings - until he spotted a struggle not so far. Telling them to stop right now, he got out of the car and rushed his way towards the two, recognizing Kate on the ground struggling to get out of the mans grip. He didnât seem to be armed, so he decided against using the gun; unlike them at base, his people were limited with ammo. Coming from behind, he grabbed her attacker by the neck, and pulled him away - the guy cursed instantly, elbowing Travis in the ribs and turning to face him, launching towards him right away. Grabbing the guy by the shoulder, he kicked him with his knee in the lower stomach and gave him a nice punch in the head, letting him collapse down in pain. âAre you okay?âhe asked Kate, eyes kept on the attacker.Â
Kate was being choked at the moment the guy was pulled off of her. She was on the brink of going a bit delirious trying to wiggled her way out of his grip at least, when the pressure on her neck was gone. She bent on the ground, coughing her life out, before she got back to her senses. Crawling a few feet away from the scene and somehow back to her feet, Kate grabbed her gun from where it was pushed away and stumbled back towards the her attacker, who was now on the ground. ââSon of a...ââ She muttered, still somewhat fighting for air as she charged at him full force -- her foot right in his abdomen. She quickly inserted the magazine into the grip of the handgun and then retracted and released the slide as it loaded into the chamber. The only reason for why she didnât pull the trigger right in that moment was because she realized someone was addressing her and it snapped her back from her shock and anger. She saw Travis and connected the dots -- he was the one who helped her. She subconsciously refused to even answer his question.
ââGet the hell off of me!â Kate growled as her back hit the solid ground. She was instantly incapacitated for a good couple of seconds as her body suffered through the sudden shock. She was on one of her supply runs, but this time she made the mistake of not actually bringing along a partner. She caught a sight of what used to be a small thrift shop not too far and figured she would check it out herself. Now she was lying on the ground while a man was hovering over her, pinning her head to the ground and talking trashy crap in her ear. Her gun was a few feet away, and she could not reach it. ââGet off!â
lelexrodriguez:
âEverything looks just fine so you have no reason to be worried.âLele said with a nod, and dropped her hands down, looking at the other. âSounds like youâve been quite busy. You always are.âshe said, it seemed like Kate never stopped doing something. âDonât even mention it, the whole satellite deal has really shaken us all up. Iâm as fine as I can be, assisted at the hospital after the attacks, they had their hands full. I know Iâm always boring with this stuff, but if you do go on a supply run tomorrow, anything thatâs for medical purposes or can be used for such, donât hesitate to grab it. What does the base need mostly right now?â
Kate shrugged with a huff and smile -- it was the truth. Kate was always busy, no matter time of the day or night. She liked to think this was because she liked being helpful, but sometimes she busied her mind more than she busied her body. She was a Runner in more ways than just one. ââYeah, well, I canât be in one place when thereâs so much work to be done.ââ She explained, restlessly. ââYouâre not boring at all, actually. If you have a specific list, I can take that, too. If not, then Iâll just be on a lookout for everything medical, as I usually am.ââ Kate said and then proceeded. ââGasoline. Weâre low on gasoline but other than that, weâre more or less fine. However food supplies could always be better, theyâre moderate right now.ââ
jax-irons:
Jax let out a quiet laugh at the idea of the hospital people actually listening to him. The day that happened was the day the world literally ended âMaybe not rules- more of a suggestion to keep others safeâ he shrugged, the obvious uncaring tone of his voice seeping through. As long as it didnât happen to him he didnât really give a shit âWell considering most of the people she was close with died- thereâs a good chance that thatâs all it isâ
ââYou know, youâre giving a lot of actual ideas for someone who doesnât care.ââ Kate raised her eyebrows at him, a bit on the teasing side. There was something about Jax that Kate considered a bit of a mask, although there was not much she knew about him. ââI highly doubt that, though. Whatever it is, weâll find out soon I guess. Lux didnât go missing for too long, either. If the pattern is the same, I guess weâll see.ââ
indy-rising:
Indy grinned brightly; he liked her sense of humor. âLucky weâve got two sets of arms here then,â he said gesturing at her. âHow bout put those guns to use and give me hand with this?â
ââPsh, you mean youâre lucky Iâm here,ââ Kate joked as she waved him off, pushing a cart with cement towards him and the hole in the wall. ââThe condition of this wall was worse than I thought, it needed reparations, anyway.ââ Kate commented as she scanned over the cracks.
indy-rising:
Indy turned around to find a young woman with wavy brown hair. âTaking a moment to be at one with the Earth doesnât dull my sense of purpose.â He paused, giving her a smile. âBesides, haste is the parent of failure.â Â
Kate glanced at Indy and then back again as she actually heard what he was saying. She stared at him for a good few seconds, wondering if he was high on something. Approaching, Kate made sure there were no Walkers around ready to jump scare them, and turned to look at the guy again. ââThe only failure youâre gonna get is the one you encounter when a Walker bites your arm off.ââ Kate stated. ââLetâs not have that happen.ââ
lelexrodriguez:
Taking a closer look at the stitches, she nodded along as Kate spoke. âYeah, they look fine to me. Thereâs no redness, no swelling around it.âshe mumbled, and put the gloves on before tracing a path right underneath it. âJust going to put some more antibiotics over it, we should be able to get those stitches out soon.âshe explained, grabbing a swap stick and a little tube from the table next to her, applying the antibiotic to the edge of the stick. âYou doing alright, Kate?â
Well, that was good -- great to hear. The last thing Kate needed was to get infected by something else, so she always made sure to take care of her injuries. ââThey donât even sting at this point.ââ Kate mumbled out a feeble joke; they stung, alright, but considering how many times sheâs had to deal with stitches, it was like the most normal thing ever. ââYeah, Iâm fine. Been helping out at the wall and rationing the food. About to head on another Supply run, maybe tomorrow.ââ She said, thinking about it. ââThis whole satellite thing really messed everyone up. How are you, Lele?â
pattersoncommakatherine:
âYeah. Itâs not all that rare for the younger sibling to be protective. Not common, but also not rare,â Katherine said with a shrug. âBesides, IâmâŚâ she paused, hesitating on whether to talk about it or not. âI was a mother,â she said softly. She shuffled in her seat, trying to calm herself down and stop herself from becoming a crying mess. âMiami, Florida. Well, thatâs where I was born. I was in Ohio when, uh, everything started.â
Kate shrugged nonchalantly. ââWell, I wouldnât know. Iâm an only child.ââ Lie. Kate had a brother, half-brother, that she didnât know if he was alive or not. He was the closest person sheâs ever had in her life, which changed once she ventured into the criminal business and toxic relationships. He cut off all ties with her. Kate glanced up at Katherine and her jaw clenched; this was not the first time she was hearing such a story. She wasnât good with these things so she chose to ignore the comment and not pry into the womanâs privacy. ââOh, I was on my way to Florida a few months ago, before I got to the Base. Harsh weather conditions kind of led me to a warmer climate but then I changed my course.ââ She offered a small smile. ââWhat were you doing in Ohio?â
indy-rising:
The rusted metal groaned in Indyâs hands. It broke off with one last tug. He tossed down in the pile with the rest. Heâd already broken off a decent sized section of the wall. No one had told him to do it, but someone had to. A breeze picked up. Indy paused and closed his eyes.
ââYou might wanna slow down on enjoying the breeze, considering you are now leaving the opening in the wall unprotected and there are Walkers around.ââ Kate pointed out, gesturing towards the hole in the wall.
finn--walsh:
âYeah wellâIâll just clean it up with some water and be good to go.â
ââDonât be so stubborn over something that can be taken care of really quickly. Youâre a Runner, arenât you? Itâs not like thereâs an abundance of us.ââ
finn--walsh:
âJusâ a small cut, doesnât need tendinâ toâdonât you got somewhere you gotta be anyway?â
'âJust a small cut thatâs bound to be infected if itâs not taken care of really soon?â Kate offered, shrugging.
lelexrodriguez:
âNo need, Kate, Iâll be right there with you.âLele told her as she dealt with two last stitches, recognizing the voice as someone she knew. Once the cut was covered, she sent the guy away, pointing him out for the fifth time to let someone check it out for him tomorrow. âCome on in, sit. Letâs take a look at those stitches of yours.â
ââOh... okay then.ââ Kate muttered, more to herself really and waited out until the guy was sent away. She took a seat opposite of Lele. ââThey seem to be fine. A little sore, but from what Iâve learned from my past experiences, all is well until it starts bleeding.ââ Kate joked.
lelexrodriguez:
âIf you donât mind waiting a second until Iâm done with this pal here, that would be hella appreciated-âLele spoke as her focus was on stitching up the cut on the runners shoulder, letting the person that has came into the examination room to wait. âDonât want to give him an ugly scar to talk battle stories about.â
ââOh no, thatâs fine I can come back later if youâre busy. Just wanted to check up on the stitches but they can wait.ââ Kate shook her head, almost already turning on her heel to leave the room and give them the privacy they lacked from her abrupt entrance.
xbloodstainedxlips:
Everyone was working hard to rebuild what was lost. Valeria was even amazed at how many of the dead she had killed just making her way towards the Hospital. âIt can be boring, but I try to make the best out of it.â
ââLike how? What do you guys do up there?â Kate asked, realizing she actually had very little knowledge of all other jobs beside her own. She figured the less she asked, the better, although now her curiosity was piqued and maybe it was the wrong thinking. Maybe one day sheâd have to replace someone temporarily.
