I'm finally at the end of my Extended Major Project, I'm happy with my body of work, I ended up going in a different direction than I anticipated and my work has changed and developed a lot over the past few months.

I wanted to do a sort of evaluation to kind of round off the project. I don't have any final images as such, I see it more of a body of work, in terms of thinking about how my work will be displayed in the exhibition I'd like to frame the larger pieces, and have the smaller/cigarette cards pinned alongside as I think the change in scale works quite well.

I am very happy with the cigarette cards/business cards, my intention for these were to contextualise my images as a reference to old cigarette cards that were, and still are collected. I added a quote to help aid my intended message; that smoking for people, is romanticised and I think this helps the sense of nostalgia I wanted to create.

The images themselves are very different to what I have done before, I was attempting to merge drawing and collage, I'm interested in continuing this on after university as it's really fun to do and hopefully opens up new possibilities for my work.

This morning instead of doing the work I should really be doing 5 days before my deadline, I decided to make this tiny cigarette packet to put my tiny cards in.

Yesterday we were kindly given the opportunity to speak to agent/curator Gina Cross about our portfolios. This was very helpful as this was the first time anyone had given me feedback on my portfolio. From this is I knew it needed bulking out with more work, and I need to pick images that focus on my strengths, which I have always found hard as sometimes I maybe don't realise what my strengths and weaknesses are, this is something I definitely need to work on so I will spend a lot more time choosing images for my portfolio.

I also find it difficult to imagine my work in any other context apart from in a gallery space, she suggested that I could potentially look at window displays and mentioned that my work suits editorial. I am pleased with this as this is what I am interested in.

There is an established notion in the marketing and consumer literates that product symbolic meaning to and about their owners go above and beyond their functional uses. This symbolic meaning is often social in nature. In this sense goods and services are a type of social tool that serve as a means of communication between people. The essence of a product, then, becomes not the physical product itself, but the relation between the product, its owner, and the rest of society. This is especially true of socially visible products that are more central in the process of social interaction among people.
