It is so easy to be our own worst enemy, it’s so hard to depend on people when you need them. I’ve come to the conclusion that we need to start becoming our own best friend. We can look into a mirror and find our flaws, we can accept ourselves for who we are. It takes looking inside your heart to see what the mirror doesn’t. We all know what it is to be a best friend. You share your most intimate thoughts. You’re a shoulder to cry on. You’re a therapist to others, a counselor, a best friend, a brother or sister figure and like the mail person, rain, sleet or snow you are there. There are times when we need all that too.
Sometimes we are the ones who need the shoulder to lean on. Someone to pick us up when our day is going bad. You go to pick the phone to call your best friend and find out they’re not available and now you are feeling lost. You sit and ponder who should you call next. Tell me why can’t we be our own best friend? after all no one knows us, like we do right? Need someone to share your thoughts with, to brighten your day, you don’t have to look any further. Your most intimate thoughts and secrets are within. Sit down and start a journal, put your intimate thoughts and feeling in writing.
Being our own best friend, we’re not afraid of being alone. You enjoy your own company. Your content with just being with you. You love yourself and it shows by the way you love and treat others. If you can be a best friend to you, think about how much easier it would be to be a best friend to someone else. We can be our own best friend to ourselves because we understand what it means, because we’ll have the best teacher, us. So next time you think you need a best friend, you remember this little saying, best friends come and best friends go, but you, you’re never going to leave yourself. Don’t worry about others, just live life. <3
