Lehamim Bakery

Lehamim Bakery in Tel Aviv is a must to visit for anyone who takes their bread seriously. This week I have got to try their country loaf, their sandwich buns, cinnamon rolls and a really tasty chocolate krantz like pastry that costed a fortune but really saved me on our flight back from getting way too grumpy. (But hey, I had a reason to be mad: I got a cold while travelling. Had a running nose and other annoying health complaints. A 3.5 hour long flight obviously did not help it. And all that just a day before my birthday.)

They have opened up a location recently in NY.

Yoham Ottolenghi interviewed the head baker Uri Scheft (who got his training in Denmark and specialized in Italian and French style bread). Worth to watch.

Life With The Ring Part 1

Apart from a short period around 5th grade in elementary school I have never worn rings. I remember sharply: back then it was a black and white porcelain ring and I had to trick my mother into buying it for me because she - as always - knew it better. Oh and was she right. After a couple of days I had no intention to wear it anymore and the poor ring landed in my bottom drover. I have never seen it ever since.

Afterwards it was not that I did not want to wear rings. I have just never find any that suited me. I always considered the rings that belonged to my mother and grandmothers to be too grown up and had no intent to catch up with the Swarovski hype or any other trends that I though were simply not for girls like me (=desperately trying to stay away from trends and not noticing that, hello!! that is a trend too!!).

Why is all of this important? Because it explains why I had clearly no idea how to wear ring when I was given my engagement ring.

#4 of Fool magazine is out

Fool is an English speaking gastronomic magazine from Sweden.

I stumbled upon their second issue while visiting Stockholm last March. I felt instantly loved with it, it was the first magazine for a long time that I really wanted to read from A-Z.

As the second issue sold out EVERYWHERE at that point, I was impatiently waiting for the third issue, that came out last summer. I did my research while is was looking for the second issue, so I knew that copies will be available in Berlin at the Gestalten Publishing House.

I vividly remember the moment walking in the Gestalten Shop in Mitte and asking about the magazine. They had it. All my troubles about trying to find it earlier seemed to be far behind.

I flipped through the magazine waiting for the cathartic feeling that I had back in Stockholm but was left with a decent magazine that was interesting, but not seriously convincing. I left without buying.

Perhaps my hopes were too high. Or simply the theme was not hitting on anything for me. Or is just really was not as good as the previous issue.

Anyways, the fourth issue is out now and I got really excited again! The theme is Italy that you really cannot go wrong with. I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy and hope that this time I will have no doubts about buying. And will do read it from the cover to the back.

Anybody knows if one can get it in Israel?

What TO DO on your next Anniversary Dinner (or at any dinner?, mm, I don't think so)

nr. 1: Go to some place that will truly meet your expectations - can be a place that you have been to before and were never disappointed by, or a place that you know is good and wanted to go to for a long time, but was waiting for the right occasion. this is it.

nr. 2: I am finally starting to admit that I am horrible with making choices in short period of time if it is about a rather serious decision - like what choose from the menu at a special dinner. But the solution is easy: check before and decide in advance. You can still get discouraged or convinced at the restaurant to choose something else, but hey, life is all about spontaneity these days.

What NOT to do on your next Anniversary Dinner (or at any dinner, really)

nr. 1: Do not wait and start prepping at the very last minute - it means that due to the lack of time you will not be able to find the clothes you were supposed to wear, the bag you were supposed to take or (worst case scenario) if you late enough simply your date is not gonna be there (just to clarify: NOT happened to me)

nr. 2: Do not get stressed if you are late - it means that you can forget things: e.g. leave your phone at home which is annoying for the obvious reasons plus you can not even take pictures - which is in the world of Instagram and iPhones is a serious minus (I can literally see the question mark over your head in a few months: did it really happened? And if so: why don’t I have any pictures about it on my phone?)

nr. 3. Do not forget to put all your usual life savers in your bag - can be tricky if you settle on the bag just a second before you are about to leave (just think about the hint nr. 1) - otherwise you could feel lost and not properly hydrated (talking about lip balm here)
