"My mother has, so has Adric and Aeron. He lost his family — his parents, two younger sisters — a few months after his tour. He was already dealing with what plagued him from the games, and then one day wake up to be in that house all alone. Drinking is a resort from suicide, he’s tried before. He hurt Aeron on accident when he did, she tried stopping him." She looked to him, giving a small shrug, "A drunk Leon is better than a dead one."
She shook her head, “No, I mean, he’s given me a hug and slurred flirty sayings at me. He apologized the next morning. This wasn’t here, but at a dinner Adric held for all of our family, and since he took Leon under his wing after he was left alone, he’s pretty much family.”
"Well, he has a source of therapy already. Besides what my mother does with him, he has Aeron. She’s like his little sister. If you asked her about Leon she would tell you a million things about him. Though there’s a seven year difference between them, I wouldn’t doubt eventually something would happen between them. Which sounds weird but he protects her, she, in a way, protects him."
She tried imagining Leon in a hospital, under surveillance of doctors, monitoring every little thing about him and giving him medication. He wouldn’t do it, she knew it. From what she’s heard of — rumors from her stylists — is that he went pretty much insane after he woke up from being lifted out of the arena, almost killing a doctor before Adric got to him and assured him he was safe. She could see it happening, so she didn’t question Leon about it.
"I suppose we all have our own way of coping. To be honest, the only form of "therapy" I had was animal therapy, one of the nurses at the hospital specializes in it, that's how I got Zephyr, my dog that is. Medicine comes in the most unlikely guises." I couldn't help but wonder how Zephyr was doing, she knew something was wrong when I saw her at the Justice Building. It pained me to think of the separation anxiety she could be going through, Derek as well, and of course my parents.
"I can't lose the both of you." were my mothers last words...it almost sent a chill up my spine.
At this point the moon had taken the sky, and as much as I wanted to stay with Leora, I needed to focus on more pressing matters, my meeting with Llyr more specifically. "It's getting late, my mentor and escort wanted to talk over dinner about well..." I said, using them as an excuse to part ways. "Not to run off or what have you." my honestly now speaking.
I picked up the book I had brought up with me and retrieved my jacket that fell off her during our "race," "If I don't see you tomorrow good luck with your interview." I said with a smile, but my feet didn't move, partly because I finally saw my opening. A small bit of dirt on her cheek.
"You have something right..." I said as my hand went to wipe the smudge off her cheek, my thumb softly dragging along her jawline until it reached her chin. I gently tilted it upwards as I lowered my head to press my lips against hers.
"Don't hate me for that." I whispered with a smirk after we released.
