Bartkira weekend continues. Volume 4 is live on the website now! This frivolous pop culture mashup refuses to run out of gas! I’ll post a few more pictures from the LA show soon! I’m still reeling from the whole thing.
Volume 4 is live! My pages (266-270) are in this one, you guys! But so are, like, a zillion other awesome artists’ pages as well! Go check it ooooooooout!!!!
Sometimes you just gotta do 100 tiny, quick drawings.

Another iPad Pro test. This time a full repaint of an old drawing from a year or two ago. Same inks, though.
Nice thing about Procreate are these little videos.
Left: Photoshop via @astropad, iPad Pro Middle: Photoshop, my aging Cintiq 12wx (this is the original panel from when I finished Bartkira in October) Right: Procreate, iPad Pro This was done as a personal test to help decide if I want to keep this iPad Pro or if I should return it and upgrade my Cintiq to the new 13HD. Test is colors only. The inks are the same ones from the October originals. For both Photoshop pieces I used @kyletwebster's brushes. For Procreate on the right I used the built in brushes. Also, when working on the original it was in the context of a larger 5 page piece, which affected color and technique choices. I feel like the outside two are not as disciplined of attempts, more just quick color sketches in some sense. There are a lot of differences in terms of process. With Astropad, there is definitely a noticeable lag on the iPad Pro screen (though, oddly, not on the MacBook screen). Pretty sure I would never use it for sketching. Inking... perhaps. In Procreate, the biggest difference is that there doesn't appear to be any blending modes for the brushes themselves. So rather than painting on one layer and just changing the blending mode of the brushes, I had to paint on multiple layers, each set to a specific blending mode. There's advantages and disadvantages to both, I think, just gotta get used to the workflow. Also, I've never been much of one to play around with brush settings, so perhaps there will be some big differences when Kyle comes out with some Procreate brushes. Generally, though, I really like this thing. That was a really long post for 3 tiny heads.
So I’m super excited to show these off in full. I got to do some pages for @bartkira volume 4. 266-270. Here are the original pages with mine.
This was a super fun project for a lot of reasons. It’s been a little while since I finished some comics pages, so yay! Also, I finally got to test out the Photoshop inking and watercolor brushes from @kyletwebster, which, I gotta say, are super awesome and waaaaaay fun.
This whole thing was penciled, inked, and painted digitally in Photoshop with Kyle’s brushes.
I’ve been a big fan of Bartkira for a long time and it’s a real pleasure and honor to be a part of it. I’m looking forward to the release of the rest of the volumes.
The other cool thing about this project for me was all about Twitch. Twitch recently started to promote and support the Creative section of their live broadcasters a lot more, so I decided to give it a whirl. I stream several painting sessions over the last week or two and it was a ton of fun.
Anyway, enjoy these! And check out the entire @bartkira project on Tumblr and at bartkira.com!
Something very intense is happening here
Well this was an evening well spent...
