You haveeee to take ppl at face value ab whatever they tell you. There are very few scenarios where reading between the lines does anything. Especially when it comes to someone’s attraction to you btw
And even if you were right and someone’s inclinations to you weren’t entirely platonic (as could be the case bc people are super complicated and not everyone will act on attraction), there’s still Something preventing them from coming clean. And that’s something you should probably listen to too. If it can’t happen, it just can’t
And also you deserve better than to accept that someone’s intentions w you are threaded all in between their lines, when they could be spelled out right on them instead. You’re not ungracious or unkind for taking things at face value and electing to keep your mind unencumbered!!!!
Something else I’ve learned from an indefatigable history of situationships actually… sometimes people don’t even know what they want!! They feel one thing, then renege on it the next. Sometimes it’s not malignant. But even if someone is volatile, that is still a no more than it is a yes bc nothing is happening. You’re fair to simplify things by just assuming they’re not interested. What ifs are the mind killer fr. Do what makes life easier if it causes no harm.
With these situations we will legit not know what someone truly feels most of the time, and sometimes ppl need to have the decision made for them - which you yourself make by stepping back and just taking them at face value
Learned these exact lessons the hard way. I'm so done with daydreaming and hyperfixating on the what ifs, trying to figure out what every single detail means. I am so against situationships. They keep u dangling n I've just decided to step back n allow people their space to decide. The whole "will they won't they" is probably cute on TV (maybe not even there) but irl it's annoying as shit!
