Well guys, the social media ban for under 16s is gonna happen sometime before Christmas of this year. I don’t normally like to say my age online, but this time it’s necessary to. I’m currently 14, and I don’t turn 16 until the 30th of December 2027, and if tumblr is one of the apps that gets banned, I won’t be active on here for OVER A YEAR

While I don’t like a few social media apps and some of them should get banned (reddit, twitter, snapchat, and instagram for example), I don’t think a ban is needed. They should do smth like put restrictions on the apps instead (idk guys i’m not very good at this sorta stuff 😭)

What confuses me is that a 15 year old in the uk can have a job, but they can’t go on sites like youtube? Like what???

YouTube is probably gonna get banned (if it doesn’t this is gonna look rlly stupid but idc), I’d argue that youtube is a big part of teenagers’ lives. Teenagers aren’t gonna watch the news to get their information, they’re gonna watch yt, or some other social media app idk. YouTube especially is where teenagers get to watch music videos from their favourite artists, or watch clips of actors from some shows or movies that they like, watch reviews, or just watch ANY videos about their favourite movies and shows and they can interact with people in that fandom, hell, youtube is LITERALLY a lifesaver for tutorials. U wanna learn how to draw anatomy? Look it up on youtube. U wanna learn how to make an account on whatever website? Look it up on youtube. U wanna learn how to be better at exams or tests? LOOK IT UP ON YOUTUBE

Btw, random side tangent, but how come they banned Facebook but not messenger? Messenger is LITERALLY the Facebook messaging app, u NEED Facebook in order to have that. And how come discord isn’t banned over there? That is LITERALLY a dangerous place for minors cuz there are SO MANY pedophiles on there
