In February of 2007, Adam Lanza was prescribed an anti-anxiety/anti-depressant medication. However, after taking the medication for three days, he was taken off the medication because his mother feared the side effects worsened his condition, putting him a vegetative-like state. Lanza was also highly opposed to taking medication and disagreed with his Asperger’s diagnosis.

Exercpt from Child of the Advocate report:

“Yale saw Mrs. Lanza in particular as being controlled in some ways by AL, unwilling or unable to alter her style of coping and hyper-vigilant management of his symptoms. In some ways, Yale surmised that this constant placation of AL may have been why he did not feel that he suffered or was otherwise debilitated by his impairments. He did not need to suffer the weight of his problems, as his primary caretaker made every effort to keep him as comfortable as possible. Mrs. Lanza had great difficulty seeing the value in pushing AL out of this comfort zone. Her comment that she was “torturing” AL during his Yale evaluation echoes her earlier comment to a school administrator that she was “abusing” AL by keeping him in the Danbury Emergency Department.”
