Jojo & Pyro ! :D
not dsaf
There’s clearly a lot of personal hurt on Scott’s part when it comes to Pyro and how abruptly he left Tegrith 8 years ago. Which is made more understandable when you observe the circumstances from Scott’s perspective. Going off what we know so far of course.
Like, you’re an orphan adopted into a very small and isolated community. You’ve known your probably only peer and friend since you both were toddlers. There isn’t a whole lot that goes on in your community, but at least you have each other to hang around with. Then one night when you’re both 15, your best friend leaves in the night (did he even say goodbye?). You are then left behind to deal with whatever emotional fallout that comes from this from the people who care about him, as well as yourself but you can’t think about that right now because people need you, and pick up the responsibilities within your community for an additional person as you transition from a teenager to an adult. Flash forward 8 years later and you see your childhood best friend again and he’s acting like being gone for 8 years isn’t that big a deal. You’re understandably upset at him.
I would like to point out how Scott never brings up his own feelings on the matter, at least not overtly and in the ways he centers others. It’s always about Pyro’s family and their home. Now don’t get this confused with Scott not caring about Pyro, because that’s definitely not the case. This simply communicates how Scott is very much burying how hurt he was (and still is) by Pyro leaving. We see this in the way Scott is glad Pyro is still around even after their tense interactions on the first day. We see it in how easily they fall back into being a good team once they unlock their magic. We see it in how even despite how clearly mad Scott is at Pyro, he still sticks up for Pyro’s character and tells Maddy he’s a good guy (very deep down according to his wording) despite how much Pyro has been rolling critical fails on charisma checks.
He has clearly missed him and they were very close once upon a time. But unfortunately hurt doesn’t fade away just because you’ve made a truce to not acknowledge the past at the moment. I do wonder what will happen in the future with these two
I have to wonder what exactly happened between Scott an Pyro to make their relationship so mutually negative, because Pyro leaving doesn’t fully explain why Pyro has such disdain for Scott.
Why Scott is mad at Pyro is pretty obvious. He left, seemingly without a word, leaving his responsibilities and family and causing hurt in the process regardless of whether you think it was a morally correct choice (personally I think their wish to leave is entirely valid and understandable, though they way they went about it seems to have stirred up a lot of bad feelings, I think Pyro is an ass for other reasons). However, why does Pyro hate Scott? There’s such vitriol in the way they talk about Scott that implies he feels like he was also wronged, but as far as we know all that happened was that Pyro left, seemingly while him and Scott where still close.
Now, maybe it’s just because he doesn’t like the reminder of his old life or he’s grown even more jaded about Tegrith (idk how to spell it) in general during his travels, but that feels flimsy. I can only assume that they also had some kind of falling out before hand. Maybe Pyro tried to convince Scott to leave with him, or simply told him of his plan to leave, and an argument broke out at Scott’s presumably negative reaction? That or there’s some deeper more bitter feeling than simply separated childhood friends going on.
He seems fixated on this idea that Scott can’t possibly be worthy or competent, so maybe there was some jealousy over how an outsider was treated or performed within the village? Like Pyro felt crushed under the weight of an unwanted responsibility but saw Scott admirably and willingly carry it and be praised for it, leading to some bitterness or belief that maybe the same will happen at the academy, hence his need to constantly shoot Scott down.
Idk, but they intrigue me
ohhhhh we've got childhood friends to enemies Pyro and Scott... they've got so much history and also they fucking hate each other... cannot even begin to express how important this is to me
The Flight Scott being adopted really adds a layer to the bitterness between him and Pyro. Of course an adopted child/community member in a place that literally has a special magical flame that passes knowledge through biological family lines (and based on Pyro's insults specifically towards Scott being adopted, their culture values family lines highly) would feel ultra committed and desperate to help and protect the family and community that took him in. In many ways, Scott is still "proving" that he's a true member of the family and community. Meanwhile, Pyro fled from his responsibilities to his town and people, ones forced upon him through his family line--or from Scott's pov, gifted to him at birth--shunting that inherent acceptance that he always had in the community because he found it stifling. The parallels and foils between them...
thinking about the stream from two months ago when gem asked "what if you had badminton?" in regards to grian missing mumbo over badminton and grian said
"i'd say (to mumbo), 'how would you feel about playing badminton?'"
vs
the recent and very romantic "i'll rush, wherever i am on the planet, rush to my computer and get on hermitcraft" from grian
okay. interesting development. a tiny taste of what he's wanted for months now and all reason is out the window. is this what 45 minutes of mumbo jumbo does to you
The Flight Scott and Pyro are childhood friends who were raised in the same small frozen mountain town. They bitterly parted at 15 when Pyro ran away from his responsibilities at home for a more exciting life, while Scott stayed and has come to the dragon academy specifically to find a way to protect their hometown 8 years later (they're 23 now). Also from how Pyro talked, it seems like Pyro is someone of status while Scott is someone "backwater" and without status. Veryyyy interesting bitter exes plotline shoring up...
