Mimillias are flowers that bloom profusely once a year, filling Wing Alayna end to end with wonderful blossoms that vary in shade according to biome. Blue for bodies of water, green for forests, pink for plains, and orange for the highlands and mountains.
The day on which they bloom, Mimillia no Hi, is a national holiday, providing a necessary break for laborers of all kinds. As such, parties are often held on the day. Mimillias are often associated with romance, as the gatherings that take place on Mimillia no Hi often bring together those who might otherwise not meet.
A type of blooming golden grass found in the dunes of Fuline Ah and the dryer parts of Koraln Sing. It stores a honey-like substance in its main stalk and was commonly used as a sweetener in Fuline Ah, especially during festivals. Its small, white blossoms are sometimes used as motifs in fashion designs in the area.
A variety of Chocotil found in the greater forests of Wing Alayna. It sports green, branching stripes on its brown skin which give the fruit a slight minty taste in addition to its chocolaty one. The plants are known to prefer shade and can be found growing under the canopy of many trees.
The leaves and stem of the plant have a much stronger mint taste than the stripes on the fruit. The roots, which have a milder taste than the leaves and stem, have the potential to be candied and used as sweets.
The Time Dimension found in the legend of Karuha and Helia has long been the subject of debate as to its existence, along with Time Buddys themselves. While the expedition has not found conclusive evidence of the latter, they are proud to announce the discovery of a dimension that looks exactly as the legend described- full of purple, quartz-like pillars. Even more surprising to the expedition however was the fact that the purple crystal sand that fills certain areas seems to be able to support some kind of plant life.
The crew was excited at the discovery and speculated, from the similarity of the plant to one of the Queen's scepters, that perhaps this was not a completely unknown dimension, and in fact had been known to be real all along and even used as a foraging ground. These speculations have been submitted to the Queen for review. The machine operators back at the palace state they had a "good feeling" about the dimensional coordinates they sent the team to, and the team suspects there may be more information to uncover yet.
The Orbal Stafflant bears a fruit with a shiny, pearl-like sheen. The fruit is quite hard, but shavings from it can be used to give sweetness and a pearly sheen to tea. It does not melt on its own, but is harmless and ingested, much like edible gold. Tests on the rest of the plant revealed little to no discernable taste in the stem and leaves, but the roots appear to be rather bitter. The younger specimens do have slightly sweet stems and the roots have not yet gone bitter, but are about as tasteless as the mature plants' stem and leaves are.
Due to its similarity to one of the Queen's scepters, hypotheses abound about what sort of properties the plant may have. The running theory is that the fruit has a high concentration of Ultiminium, and may be a key source for the Ultimate Tea if tests can give the theory more credence.
Another theory states that the plant may be the key to manipulating matter and energy in JI as the Queen can, and some tests of wavelengths given off by the fruit do seem to indicate it may have properties conducive to such a goal. The team plans to submit a full report of their findings and hopes to get some answers as to the nature of the dimension, the plant itself, and what connection these may bear to the Queen's abilities.
A relative of the Twistilar Boblita found on the northwest coast of Warminia Songlianne, the Kanmular is another type of Varia Maria. The petals have a slightly warm taste to them, and the body of the plant has a slightly spicy taste like a succulent.
A close relative of the Spirra Starra and several other Hoshimi Island species, the fruit of the Münorbana glows from within. It has a light downy substance over the surface of it and is hollow inside. Biting into it will produce a crunch sound, with a texture like a lightbulb wrapped in stubby fur. The taste is not much to write home about.
The leaves of the plant have a texture like molten glass without the heat, almost clay-like in malleability, though retaining its shape like rubber. Somewhat satisfying to chew, but there is not much flavor to be reported on.
Starianas appear to be another relative of Celesta Starpetalias, distinct from Starvines by their individual growths rather than growing all on one vine, though they appear to have somewhat intertwined root systems given their proximity to one another.
Similar to Starvines, the petals have a hard, glass like texture, and are hot to the touch, though not enough to burn. They have dark stems, but give off enough heat and light for them to appear almost orange.
The stems, similar to Starvines, have a slightly gummy texture to them, but have no taste. They are notably warm from the heat given off by their petals, however.
The discovery of a forest of Cresca Trees shook the botanical community, as its elusive nature had all but been pegged as having to do with dimensional anomaly. It would seem the earlier confusion about the Cresca forest's existence has now been solved, as the forest indeed seems to be in a basin on the island where higher elevations make the light from the forest near indistinguishable from the light of local flora, especially from a distance. There is still a strong running thesis that Cresca forests may be the entrance to a pocket dimension, however.
Thorough research on the trees is still forthcoming, as no one seems to be able to get close to the trees without wandering out of the forest a few moments later, awed by the glowing crescents. Could the trees actually be proving to resist thorough investigation, or was the research team simply experiencing technical difficulties? Time will tell.
A wild vine found growing on Hoshimi Island, centered around a white Lar plant. One of many plants found on the recent expedition to Hoshimi Island off the coast of Crescent Minoria, Starvines provide an interesting clue about their connection to plants both on the island and in other regions. They bear some similarity to Celesta Starpetalias, but may even be have closer ties to Elemin Darias and possibly even the Flyona line if the link between Starvines and Orbitanias is confirmed. Starvine stems are faintly gummy, but more bitter than sweet.
Starvine petals are oddly hard, providing a crunch when bitten into in a familiar fashion to biting into a Lara Münara fruit, though with a smooth, glassier texture despite their more opaque appearance.
White Lar plants are a rather uncommon sight. It would appear this Lar gets its energy from the moon in a similar fashion to Crescent Minoria plants, though it is not transparent like most of them, as is typical for Hoshimi island plants not to be, due to the confluence of currents around the island and continental influence, as outlined in the notes about the Spirra Starra.
Much like a Lonlar, the white Lar has a mild fiddlehead fern-lettuce taste to its head, though almost butter-like with the natural oil it gathers within its curl. This seems to be a unique feature of the white Lar.
Once believed to be extinct, Mizuminas are fungi with an appearance similar to Aquabulla plants. They were often confused for plants due to the green coloration of their stalks and similarity to existing plants, and this confusion led to their classification as a plant in some early texts before proper research was conducted.
Their 'fruit' on top contains a type of jelly that gets more watery towards the center. The taste will be influenced somewhat by the body of water the fungi are found by, but for the most part taste like good water.
They have historically been known to grow near streams, rivers, lakes and estuaries, anywhere there is water that is calm with a fairly mild current, whether saltwater or freshwater. The first sighting of them in recent times, however, is by a stream offshoot from the Great Buddy River that runs north to south in west Wing Alayna.
Ever since Buddys have wanted to sail the sea, there have been leafboats made from Pathvine leaves. The crafting of a leafboat takes time and patience, as various holds are made by grafting strong vines onto the leaf while it is still attached to the Pathvine and shaping it this way. After a long process and various treatments then, the boats are tested for seaworthiness and any adjustments necessary are made. The first boats were made with the Queen's help, but over time she deemed it necessary that Buddys learn the craft for themselves. To make a true seaworthy Pathvine boat can take months of careful planning and perseverance, years before she's truly seasoned. But a proper Pathvine boat? Well, let's just say the Queen's first boats are still with us to this day, millennia later.
The boats usually need some routine tuning now and then to make sure all is good, especially those later made, but even if one springs a leak, one can always graft them back onto a Pathvine for a bit to heal the gap. Though a particularly bad gash can take a while to heal, so making the boats right the first time is of utmost importance.
Leafboats are pulled by teams of Aqua Buddys who help the crew get to their destination. In exchange, they're often fed heartily with the spoils from the trip, and the crews always pack extra supplies for the needs of the aquatic team.
Holds are grown on the hull to which ropes are affixed. These ropes are then affixed to harnesses worn by the aquatic team.
The main sustenance on most voyages is Spotils, which the crew procures many of in preparation for their trip, as well as a few other small things for flavoring, such as various kinds of berries, honey, and so forth. A crew with a cook or a wife who cooks is quite a treasure on voyages, as the meals can be a little more varied even if supply availability can vary.
The Leaning Rayanna has a long, hollow stem which sways easily in the wind. It is found in mountainous regions where it gains its characteristic windward lean as it grows.
It has a quite different appearance between night and day. During the night it glows brilliantly, and the exact color of its glow is said to represent how the flower is doing. If it is bluish, it senses wind or perhaps rain. If pink or purple, one can expect sun in the morning.
Its petals and leaves are sometimes used for tea. Their exact flavor can vary depending on the condition of the plant, but the petals are bittersweet, and the body of the plant has a warm, somewhat watery taste which helps balance the petals. Because of its glowing properties, Leaning Rayanna tea is usually drank at night when Tea Festival goers can enjoy the spectacle of its changing, multicolored glow.
The day color of the Leaning Rayanna can vary with its mood, but on the brightest day of the year it can be found in golden yellow. The body of the plant also changes color with season and mood, but when the flower is golden, it is usually much greener, sometimes darker in color.
The patch of grass the specimen was found on is a rather rare variety. Like the Rayanna, Hika grass glows faintly at night. Grass in Wing Alayna in particular is usually more on the yellow-green spectrum, but this grass has a brilliant mint green hue at night. The hue isn't as noticeable in the day, but a keen observer may note the slight difference from the grass around it.
The stalk and heads of Hika grass are notably tasteless when white, but the green blades have a distinct minty flavor. Blades that come in pink are almost sweet.
Found on an island between Furheart Iiah and the southern pole continent, Warminia Songlianne, the Harta Tamagia appears to be a long lost relative of the Tamalia Shuwana. Though rare, it has been reported that Tamalia Shuwana fruits can "hatch" to produce a glowing, golden sphere much like the Harta Tamagia. However, due to the rainy season in Wing Alayna where Tamalia Shuwana grow, the fruits rarely reach this state without careful intervention, as exposure to water in excess will cause the shell to dissolve and the core to harden prematurely.
The Harta Tamagia on the island appear to have fruit with a healthy luster, which raises questions as to how they are able to evade the perils the fruits of their Wing Alaynan relatives face. Differences in the seasons and timing of precipitation are thought to play a role, as well as the extra protection from the elements the fruit has in the Harta Tamagia's bright red petals.
The taste of the Harta Tamagia fruit differs greatly from the Tamalia Shuwana. It has a much more savory, hard-boiled egg-like taste than the Tamalia Shuwana's saccharine honey taste to its core.
The petals seem to have a sort of oobleck property. They are soft and supple when touched carefully, but harden when exposed to more intense percussion. This may also explain how they are able to provide more adequate shelter for the fruit they house.
The Harta Tamagia also incubates a sort of secondary flower above its main fruit. It begins as a seed and is fed by the excess energy given off by its glowing fruit. In turn it sprouts long, sticky stems with which to catch pollen from other flowers which it feeds down to the body of the plant where it can begin fruiting anew once its primary charge is taken from it.
These pistils secrete a sweet substance to act as glue, similar to true Tamalia Shuwana honey. They harden with exposure to the elements, making for delectable hard candy once ripe.
The team who documented this flora also thought it worth noting the presence of green plants similar to Vina Heartias around the subject. The current hypothesis is that these are all seeds once incubated by this very Harta Tamagia, and that they rely on the light from its fruit as an extra source of nourishment, hence their appearance in large numbers around the specimen.
These thin green plants—Grina Vinia Heartias, as they are currently being called, have a limy, gummy taste to them, unlike the more vegetably taste of the Furheartian Vina Heartias.
As a final note, the symbolic connotations of the Harta Tamagia should not be understated for our non-Buddy readers, as it bears many features easily interpreted as symbols of motherhood by them. In particular, its name, Harta Tamagia, resembles the words for the earliest stage of Buddy development (Heartegg/Kokoro no Tamago), so it was inevitable the name of the plant alone would be startling, even before we observed its other features.
What the team did not anticipate was the explosion of conjectures about the application of the plant as a panacea for emotional issues regarding Heartegg incubation. While hypotheses abound, it should be reiterated that no actual research has as of yet been done to prove or disprove these ideas, and the head of the team would like to remind everyone that experiments in this field could easily border on unethical if the community's zeal for discovery gets out of hand.
The Fire Dimension is usually very dark, and recording images of flora there can be difficult. However, there is an area on the border of the dimension and the sea where the sun shines through brilliantly, illuminating the volcanic coast in vermillion hues.
The Shandelia was one of the first recorded specimens on this venture to the border of the dimension where the light shines. It has a natural warmth to it when touched, and light pulsates gently through the plant, even in the dark. The plant has a dry feeling to it, but it is very much alive. It gives off seeds and pollen like sparks of fire, drifting gently in the wind. Thus far there has only been one discovered, but a more thorough survey of the coast is expected to turn up more.
Its branches have a distinct savory spice to them, almost like curly fries, strongest at the tips and getting more woody towards the base. The seeds taste a bit like fennel.
Hibana Grass is quite warm, and likewise glows in the dark. They sizzle when put in water and have a smoky hot flavor. The latter aspect is more pronounced in its seedheads.
Upon the Shadow Queen's head grow Kage no Hana, shadow flowers that produce seeds to be planted in the hearts of the beings of light to do her bidding. As any shadow plant is unstable in the light, planting them takes careful planning. First, she needed something to mask the presence of the seeds from the careful eye of the ruler of the light realm. Then she could begin turning the hearts of the guardians of light cold...
Considered the queen of the Flyona family, the Skypetalia has the sweetest petals of any currently recognized member of its genus. They are so sweet, in fact, that they usually need to be diluted if consumed at all. Unlike most of its relatives, it sports translucent, fairy-like leaves throughout the stem rather than just at the top.
As is typical of Flyona family members, the stem has a distinct licorice taste.
Twina Celestia always grow in pairs, merging together during their growth to become one flower. The water it gathers in its blossom is said to have celestial properties, like liquid moonlight itself.
