First of all, dogs are amazing, Mrs. O'Leary is amazing, that fic was amazing and you are amazing. Second of all, as someone who has also tried to get a handle on the black dog that is depression, I just want to say that you're absolutely worth it and that I'm happy you've had some good times lately, I hope you have so many more in the future. Thirdly, no lie, dogs are legit the best. Finally. Dude, you're an Aussie? I didn't know...I think! Me too!

Um, you are amazing. Like, seriously, my love for you is like... woah <3First and third, right? Where would we be without dogs? No where good, that’s where.And finally: I am actually not an Aussie. I am Polish American, but my SO is an Aussie. I would be very happy to move to Aus, but alas, my job is in the US and the SO is playing lots of tournaments over here so... it is just not meant to be. Ironically, I visited and I tried to move to Aus long before I met my SO but the visas were a nightmare and it just never came to fruition. Basically, I am pathetic Aussie wannabe who thinks Aus is the greatest and I would move there in a heartbeat if I could and I’m super envious. BRB, adding this to the list of reasons I love you.

I just read everything and I want you to know I'm so so proud of you!! Depression is absolutely terrible, but I'm so proud of you for staying strong through it, and I'm glad things are getting better!! Take as much time as you need, I'm sure everyone here will understand, your health is more important!❤❤❤❤

This... really means the world. I sort of want to print it out and stick it in the corner of my screen so I can see it every time I get disheartened about writing. It feels good to be back here, and it feels good to be writing again. Depression is the worst thing I have ever felt, worse than any sadness or disappointment that came from real events outside my brain. I hope you are getting everything you need right now. I don't know you, but you seem great. I really wish you all the best as you heal.

I got this a while back and I couldn’t really bring myself to answer but I want you to know that I’ve read it a lot, and it’s done me a lot of good. Hey hi I've noticed you haven't been on in a while (and I totally get it if it's just life getting in the way) but I was wondering if you're ok? I really hope things are going well for you, sending you lots of love!! -a very loyal worried fan❤

Depression is an ugly, heavy beast that sometimes, for no reason at all, can rear its head and send us back into something we once thought we had beaten. Depression, for me, was something that haunted me when I was younger and I naively thought that in a way I had sort of “beaten” it. It still stayed, around the edges of my life, but for the most part I felt like I managed it pretty well and the older I got, the better I got at handling it.That’s not really how depression works though, a bit, maybe, I am better at handling it but it really hit me full force again starting in July and the weight of it just makes it so hard to pick up the metaphorical pen. I’m a pretty solitary person. I have an SO but he’s a professional athlete so I spend most of my time with our dog. I’ve never minded, I still don’t, I’m the kind of person who needs a lot of time on their own so normally the space is really good for me, but this year it became kind of a danger and I had to learn how to manage myself when I was feeling this way and there was no one but me around.As it turns out, demons are louder when there’s nothing around to drown them out.

I should have said something, and for that I’m sorry. I’ve stayed away from Tumblr intentionally because despite some of the amazing, wonderful people I have met here... it is an insanely toxic place. People aren’t patient here; they work in absolutes. They attack their allies, they tell them the way the cope, the way the learn, isn’t good enough and I just... couldn’t. I didn’t have the ability to reflect those things off because for a while I felt like a flypaper for negativity. This can be a great place for artists, but it can also be a soapbox for people who are just really angry.The good news is, the last bit of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 have been really good to me. My SO won a major tournament and I cannot tell you how inspiring it felt to watch someone fulfill a childhood dream. Even more so when he picked up the phone, called me from across the world and the first words out of his mouth were “We did it,” as if I had a part in a lifetime of work. I went back to Australia for three weeks and got to spend time with my family, my SO’s family, and my SO. I came back to the states and now my edges feel sharper. Before I left I sort of felt like every part of me was dull and worn down, but now I feel sharper than ever.It’s taken time, but I don’t like leaving things unfinished. I’ve opened Heartbeats a few times over the last few weeks. I’ve even started working on some new things just to get myself going again. I’m sorry it has taken this long but... Sometimes we have to fight through things to get to where we need to be. So... thank you, for thinking of me, for even worrying because I guess it was warranted. The bad news is the demons are still there, and maybe they won’t ever really go away but... the good news is I’m a lot tougher than they are, and if they want to fight... well, I’ve always liked challenges ;)I’ll hopefully see you all soon. Thank you for thinking of me <3

Well… Will is all out trying to save his deadbeat dad and Nico is trying to be like… a functional human being so, ya know, they’ve been better, but I wouldn’t say they’re terrible.Learning not to rely on someone else for your own happiness can be tough :/ but they’re tough guys :)

Hi team.  I know it seems like I’ve dropped off the face of the planet and, well, I sort of feel that way.  The company I work for just launched a huge project that’s been three years in the making and my life got a little hectic as I was responsible for delivering all the documentation with the product launch. Without going into too much detail, there were some nows, no wait not now, okay now, no, oh we’re launching it Monday so happy Friday. Anyway, I’m a little burnt out, but it’s finished now, so hopefully I’ll be able to get back to writing for fun sometime soon. I adore you all to bits, and I miss this place terribly. <3 Back in a flash

I don’t think Nico and Will got together because they were opposites. 

I don’t think they got together because Will was a happy sunray and Nico was this dark hurting kid. 

I think they got together because Will was the only person who talked to Nico without fear. 

I think they got together because even though he’s not a fighter, Will knew how to fight for what’s right, and for what he wants. 

I think they got together because Will was the first to call Nico out on his bullshit. 

I think they got together because they both understand death. They’ve both lost people. They’ve both experienced the trauma of war. 

I think they got together because they both knew depression and what it could do. 

I think they got together because they were both hardened by wars that weren’t meant to be theirs to fight, because they both understood loss, because they both understood what it was to try your best and fail. By which I mean, Nico had always tried so hard to fir in and couldn’t because of his powers. Will must have tried so hard to save people in the wars and failed, unable to save all of them. 

Nico comforts Will because death is inevitable. Will comforts Nico because he shows him he isn’t alone. 

These two aren’t together because they’re different, but because they’re the same. 

Everyone paints Will to be this happy, jokey, super-safe doctor, but my gods, did we read the same books? Did you see how feisty he is? How reckless he can be? How he lets Nico push his boundaries, and is only there to stop him from going too far? This boy reattaches limbs, and he can get entire armies to stop fighting and listen just by whistling. 

No, Will Solace is not this happy-go-lucky sunshine boy. He puts on a happy front, but you think that doesn’t go away? You think Nico doesn’t find himself comforting Will as much as Will comforts him? You think Will Solace doesn’t break down over the death of people he cares about, people he couldn’t save? You think this pain, this understanding of the shitty life they have to live isn’t what made them compatible? 

Nico shows it more, but Will is hurt too. And that’s why they’re so good for each other.
