New blog is up. Don’t know if I’ll be doing anything there today, but it’s there, at least.
It’ll probably be pretty low activity, but I really, really do want to make an effort to come back to Kogi. I’m not certain if I’ll be keeping this blog or archiving it, per se, because there’s... a lot of old and unorganized things here, and a lot of stuff from people who’ve undoubtedly moved on, but I’d still like to keep it around at least, for the sake of memories. So stay tuned, I suppose? And I’ll make up my mind, if there’s anyone around to even read this.

I got bored and started messing around with the thing @daiengi linked to and
"Kogitsune-san", he calls the other, coming closer and sitting right next to him. "May I keep you company?"
“If I may keep yours.”
Even smiling is a difficult task — these past days have worn on Kogitsunemaru in ways he would not have imagined, for reasons even he cannot comprehend. And, tired as he is, as much as his body begs to rest, his beloved is one he could never will away.
The sword is slow but sure in his movements, a hand rising, touching Yuuki’s face, brushing and combing through his hair, and the fox feels himself succumb to that rising warmth in him, pulling the other close.
“It feels as if it’s been a lifetime.” Maybe he’s merely old.
saihai
“Require? Does that imply that you’re unbreakable?” Yoshitsugu looked at the sheathed sword on the Kogitsunemaru’s hip before eventually turning his body to face him. His cry for attention had been heeded. It was strange how a spirit created by the gods had been… whining? In some way. With the animal ears, Yoshitsugu almost felt as if he’d been neglecting a pet dog. Or fox. He was a fox.
“If a sword were to snap in half, would the spirit’s body do the same?” It was a really morbid thought, but his imagination had a habit of wandering. “And then… after mending the blade, would their body come back together?”
“Unbreakable... I could not say.” His eyes wander the board, head canted, gaze flickering. “When the blade of a normal sword is destroyed, it cannot be repaired to its previous state, not exactly. The same is true of most of us: a broken sword may be repaired, mended, but the spirits within would be gone. I know that I am different – I’ve never been restricted to my master’s side as they have – though what that would mean if my sword were damaged enough, I can’t know.”
“Even so... if you consider us tsukumogami, it would not be unreasonable to assume that we continue to persist, just not inside our swords. But it all depends — some of us came about naturally, while others were created... most of the newer blades. Does it make sense?”
saihai
Not looking up from his shogi board, he idly lifted and placed a piece upon its surface with a soft clack.
“I think you’ve gotten too comfortable here, Kogitsunemaru-san.”
“Mmm... I don’t see that as a bad thing.”
“Of course, for others like me, it’s different. They do require that sort of care — to be too far from the side of their master causes them pain, and they must be inspected and looked after regularly to assure they don’t break... it sounds nice to be taken care of in that way, doesn’t it, Yoshitsugu-san?”
“A master who doesn’t take the time to relax with and take care of their swords is quite the pitiful master, indeed.”
saihai
“Animal ears… because you’re the sword of a fox god, right? That’s the story.” He’d been putting the pieces together. Yoshitsugu squinted at the pointed ears as they wiggled, their presence having tied Kogitsunemaru’s presentation together. As strange as it was, he shouldn’t be unwelcoming— maybe Kogitsunemaru’s appearance meant that the gods wanted to allow the Western Army some hope against Ieyasu Tokugawa.
“They blend into your hair. I thought they looked like cat ears, and then I saw them move.”
Though they were still on the topic of Kogitsunemaru’s ears, Yoshitsugu had already been thinking about whether or not it’d be wise to incorporate the spirit into their army. While they certainly needed the allies, what with Yoshitsugu’s declining health and the prospect of Hideaki Kobayakawa betraying them, trust wasn’t something to simply be given.
It’d be best to bring Kogitsunemaru to Mitsunari for questioning. If the new face were to be serving anyone, it’d be within his army, after alll.
“That’s right. Inari Ōkami assisted in my forging, and so I took on characteristics reminiscent of the name I was given — though I’m certainly not small in the least, am I?” People seem often surprised as it is, though whether it be because his appearance is odd, or they don’t quite come to terms with his explanations...
“May nature... can be difficult to explain.” Most swords weren’t like him; all, to some degree, manifested with the influences of their stories or their creators, oftentimes even of past masters. “It doesn’t bother me, though. My existence is an odd one, I’ve come to terms with that.”
saihai
A masterless servant? More realistically, Kogitsunemaru could have been a local, deranged sword enthusiast with a replica blade. Despite that, Yoshitsugu’s gut felt that the other was telling the truth, as he spoke with such conviction that it was hard to picture it a lie. There was an almost incorporeal atmosphere to the man, whose white hair glistened in the sun, a halo of sorts forming around his silhouette. Even the scarlet gaze the other bore felt like something not entirely belonging to this world.
“…—” Belatedly, he noticed.
“Your hair is alive. Does it normally do that?”
“Hair?”
It truly takes him a moment to make the connection, and Kogitsunemaru can’t stifle that brief laugh that escapes him quite in time. He moves to put the blade away, and covered fingers tweak the tip of an ear and, almost as if to tease, gives the appendages a playful wiggle.
“They do normally do that.” Most don’t seem to notice; a keen eye, or have they really been moving so much? “I’m sorry if they’re distracting you.” He isn’t the only one here with such an unique appearance, Kogitsunemaru notes with no small amount of pleasure. “Most people do not notice... or merely don’t say anything about them.”
saihai
Yoshitsugu’s eyes had to leave the ear-like hair tufts when the man stepped forth to display his blade.
“You are?” He echoed, though he was sure he had heard correctly. The name of the sword and the legend of its creation rang his memory, but it’d all seemed too bizarre. “Named after the sword then?” Given how old the blade had rumoured to be, it was a plausible assumption. More plausible than the truth.
“Don’t worry, Kogitsunemaru-san. I forget who I am all of the time.” It was of course a self serving joke, but delivered in such a way that only a close friend might notice.
“…Yoshitsugu Otani.”
He can’t help but be amused by the confusion — yes, he supposes they all are named after their swords, in a manner of speaking. He has no intention of leaving the man mistake, though, and he moves to replace the blade at his side, one of said furry tufts giving the slightest twitch...
“I don’t mean to complicate things, Yoshitsugu-san. I meant what was said: I am Kogitsunemaru, as is the sword at my side,” emphasized with a hand draped over its handle, a gentle pat to its buttcap. “Though my presence here has no specific purpose, I was made to serve, whoever my master is or will be.”
Perhaps it is deceitful, masquerading as some human, though it isn’t as if he, or any of them, were given a choice. Their lives – his life – is hardly different from that of any other servant... with a few stipulations here and there. The fox cocks his head to the side, lips pursed in a hum.
“Some refer to us as tsukumogami. It is... accurate enough, I suppose.” He’s careful in drawing his blade, slow, to demonstrate his lack of aggression; he presents it once more, turns it, until the signature engraved in him catches the light. “You understand, Yoshitsugu-san?”
