Week 7 continue working of towel

The first layer of green.

I find that green match red are too traaditional. I mean it kind of old fasion which remind me of Christmas Day. Therefore, I change the background color from broen to blue. In this way the whole colors of the paint is blue.

This is the start. I use the brown to be my background, in my mind the towel would paint with green.

Week5 Opaque tone

It’s so hard to paint this oil one. I spents about 3 hours to add color to highlight the value and shade.

Reverse

My idea is anti-war. As you can see there is a crying woman. In my story, she is a poor and sad mother who may lose her child in the war. There is a peace symbol above her head. However, the chain on her hand, the red bomb at the bottom means war. Therefore, there is a huge contrast, the bottom is war and the above is anti-war.

The behind is the skeleton. I really like the idea, for the war means death and skeleton is the symboal of death.

I use the oil to paint the first layer, the hair and peace symboal for the texture of transition is good. However, it is really hard to dry. I take about five days to dry,LOL

Sigmar Polke

 A German painter and photographer, and he works with a wide range of styles, subject matters and materials. 

According to moma “In the 1960s Polke had produced what he called "Capitalist Realism," a German variant of Pop art. An element of Pop survives in Watchtower's support, made of commercial yard goods printed, respectively, with a cheerful floral and with a weave or mesh.” I don’t have any idea about  Capitalist Realism. It just give me a feeling of scare, cold. Maybe that refelect the sad history of East and West Germany.

Week2 Exercise: Time is a River

“Time is a river” A very philosophical idea and topic. When I look for some unconventional tools for this exercise, I see my floor lamp. The house I rent has many floor lamps which earlier tenants left. When I see the dead body of insects at the bottom, the idea comes to my mind. Time is a river from born to death.

I use all kinds of blue colors and white put them on the edge of the light. I use gamsol to resolve these colors, and with the help of my brush and gravity. The blue color runs to the bottom where The dead body of insects lies like a river. That means Time is a river from life to death and ”she ” waits for no one.

When the light is on, the effect is pretty good. However, the effect is normal when the light is off.

Week1 My favorite painting term

The term I choose is hue, Hue is the main idea and basic rule of color, and that’s why I choose this term. What’s else this term exactly have three characters, so I can think the idea about red, yellow, blue, the three basic colors

The tail of “E” is interesting, for Iwan to show the change from red to yellow in “E”.  The red start from the tail and I put lots of paints to make it more like fire.LOL

The main objectc is a giraffe. As you can see the shadow and the lighting shapes are the discord colors between yellow and brown, When I finished that, I found it is kind of boring for the main colors is yellow and brown. I want the darker and cooler to make a contrast. Therefore, I use blue. However, I forget to uses discord in blue. In conclusion, I am satisfied with this.

I use transparent green as my background color. The main object is an abstract giraffe. However the work is unfinished, and I am thinking about how to make the whole painting more interesting. I mean just a giraffe in the center of the painting is odd.

WEEK 9 Make a black and white collage

I choose A Gorge in the Mountains (Kauterskill Clove) in the metropolitan museum of art as my background. the other main charcters should be the Ballet dancers painted by Edgar Degas. I really like  Edgar Degas’s dancer, and they are just like worry-free godness. I want make a scenes taht these dancers dance to sky surrounding to cloud. The pacground is realistic, main characters- the Ballet dancers are impressionism. The cloud and mountain I choose is one of my favorite traditional Chinese landscape painter Chang Dai-Chien. He’s landscape  give a feeling of illusory and grandiose. Therfore, my work wants to show the chnage from realistic world to a illusory word. However, the transationl is not so good.

I am not so good at absreact things. The first three are just attempts. Then I find that compostion is important, so I try to compose gemmetry as big part instead of divide them into small parts. Therefore, the last two are better for me.

WEEK 10 PETER DOIG

100 Years Ago

The painting attracts me at my first sight. Maybe I like the color of blue. the white blue and dark blue behins and the green island are cold colors. The blue control all the picture giving me a feeling of loneliness. However the orange boast ease the feeling of cold and alone. The warm color causes us put our attention on the woman in the boat. It makes me keep asking what’s happen to her. According to the title “ 100 Years Ago ”, many ideas break out froms my brain. Maybe the woman is a ghost waiting for a chance to find next one so she can free from a cuese. Maybe it just telling a sad tragedy from 100 years ago. Who knows?
